Pasar malam business also have a lot of things to consider. Location, What you gonna sell, your competitor, season, etc. Some items the profit margin is really low because too many seller of the same things so they keep fighting to survive. Unless you are talking about selling illegal things, if you know what I mean |

Nid to plan what you gonna sell first. My cousin enrollled in selling shoes in pasar malam, whereby the pasar malam only have 2 shoes stall including him. SO it is like a small competitive market which lead to a great business for him. The only difficult thing is set up, find supplier, location of pasar malam that you want to go, and also what happen during rainy day.

I am thinking of pasar malam business also, as an undergraduate now, with one year ahead.
Product: 糖水 kind of stuff Price: RM2.50 Profit: 50%-60% Supply: Not a problem, raw material can be bought anywhere, homecook. Let me elaborate more about the product. There is one stall here near my place which is selling this desert (糖水), called 清补凉, it's not the same with the one in KL. Priced at RM2.50 each and I strongly believe it can be a hot-selling product in KL night market. I am not familiar with the modus operandi in pasar malam. Regulatory process, location, 'unwritten agreement' between sellers. I intend to systematize it, unlike typical pasar malam style, so capital is a hit. Capital problem can be settle in this, I think. |

In the end, no money to retire, and their kid hates them. |

QUOTE(unknown warrior @ Jul 9 2008, 10:06 AM) No Pain, No Gain Dude. yup...this is wad i wanna say... get this quote " the fact that I start a business is because I do not qualify to fill in a job application form". If u r true entreprenur....sacrifice is the 1st priority...I saw graduates gave up climbing corporate ladder ...holding their biz degree...I talked to them..... and they start their own biz in night market....why???I rather have this kind of commitment rather than work for people and have a better sense of goal in life. 1)night market can be considered the 'market' with biggest market size in the world. (well...use brain oso know lar....3 o clock not so much ppl....but until 6 or 7 to 11 human traffic jam like hell) 2) becoz the human traffic is so jam....high demand came out..... becoz high demand came out huigh supply came out.... (high supply means high competition came out) ONLY the best marketer can impress the market - not only with the price, with the marketing skills, Pr, communication skills, network is less important as u gotto establish ...is a VERY direct sales..... thet u make it, u make it forever.... beat ur competitor via marketing skills and price.... i was trained kaw kaw by my dad....imagine there were 2 chicken stall....one juz at the oposite of us....y the other stalls empty??? ours are full??? yup... the other stalls worker stqand there and wait for customers.... and i was forced to shout _FRIED CHICKEN FRIED CHICKEN , UNCLE HOW's UR DAY???? HOW MUCH U WAN TODAY???? WELL...THESE ARE THE LAST 5 CHICKEN CHOP TODAY>>>TAKE ALL OF THEM PLEASE.... well...lol...is quite funny when i recall all these 'hell' experiences....u go night market nw....how many among them shout like singing opera??? no...the stalls workers juz stood there like kayu....and speak softly like so scared others might hear....i dun wanna deny that asking u to shout it in night market is that easy...I'd thrown away my self esteem on the floor and stomp it.... i gave up my self esteem.... I was a musician played the violin since 3 years old and piano 4 years old...I joined an orchestra palying trombone(imagine i juz palyed it for roughly 8 months but i got piano background lar) I experienced sth that I did not experience be4.... I was being scolded and scolded....nearly got slapped by my dad...coz I am musician ma....no need of do such things wan... until I took out my guts, gave up my self esteem and shout in the night market.... franchise who uses mic to promote their products....well...sadly...my and friend and my volume beat them.... Customers are expecting to see an energetic stalls not a dead stalls.... I was a coward until the day I became a marketer in the night market....Remembered the faces every night.....Well...I remembered about 220 faces a night.... m,emorized their faces and wad were their choices of product (chicken types lar) if possible remmebr their name.... make jokes with customers or ladies.... like wehn leng lui asked us to give more chilis we will shout "OK sure!!! CONSUME MORE CHILIS MAKE ONE HOTTER" (in cantonese lar)...The girl asked...Hot like what??? Then We shout" HOT LIKE CHILI PADI...OR TO BE PRECISE...LIKE YOUR CUTE LITTLE RED blushing FACE" MARKETING...MARKETING...MARKETING... 3)the one who get to impress the customers and make them stay are always the winner..... Is not really ur price which ebat them (of course ur price muz be low or average as well) is ur marketing skills that beat others....by working for an emplyer... lets say amway, cosway or wadever way.....u cant really sharpen ur marketing as effective as u being the employer in the night market... 4)u r an entrepreneur not a worker....u who have the intention to start a biz in night market are an inborn entrepreneur.... Fresh graduates who gave up their degree and corporate ladder and throw their degrees into dustbin or burn it are entrepreneur.... those who doesn't wnana work for others so their employer instead of them will get richer are entrepreneur...we are entrepreneurs ... it worth all the pain, ur mental and physical strangth, ur time to make it in night market...the biggest market in the world, the highesty human traffic in the world, the highest demand in the world, the highest possibility to generate giant income even u r small stall which sell drinks in the world.... u r gonna sacrifice...... 1)ur fren is going clubbing at 8-12 tonight....u r gonan shout like hell and sweat like hell without enjoying at this time... 2)hellboy 2, batman, narnia 3, spiderman, the hulk....ur gang had watched it all.....u watched none.... 3)ur fren go paly snoker this afternoon...u cant go....u gotto take a nap so that u will be more energetic tonight... 4) ur fren go dota today....u cant give urself a rest but u muz go for the work....no holiday for entertainemnt purpose unless u wanna go a vacation with ur family or u got sickness or ur van broke down. 5) ur fren work 8 hours a day and get paid RM1800-- a month after being scolded by the boss.... u work at elast 14 hours a day...and get paid of about Rm15,000 a month ( provided not everyday rain lar) and scold ur workers if they are lazy or perform in low productivity status. seriously....u dun give urself excusesd to go movie or clubbing and commit in ur job....dun get married so fast....manage ur finance well....dun somply waster...dun becoz u earn Rm9k in ur 1st month and spend them buying a starvoski crystal for ur gf...buying a 5 carat for ur gf 5 months later....u r gonna cry for wasting....if u manage well.... u r millionaire.... in years.... Jus remmeber afew golden rules:- 1)Customers want a stall filled with life and not a dead stall. Keeping ur pride high, dun wanna approach the customers but juz stand there and wait them come to you...lol....u will be dead in no times....wait to close stalls. 2)It's your direct marketing skills that will directly affect ur sales volume. Dunno how to speak, play jokes, remmeber faces and name, give discount when it's necessary- that will rendered u a failure. 3)Location is the most important factor- do a research and go every night market with large market size and high human traffic...... get or do a permanent rent there 1st.....if got places wanna sell.... BUY it IMMEDIATELY!!! one of the good examply for a good location is Wednesdat- Taman Connaught, Friday- Taman Segar, Thursday- Taman Sri Rampai, Monday- SS2 dun rely on my statments for these location i didnt go too long jor. 4)My father always said...Horse are placed infront to run...not put them behind to display.... U see alot pasar malam employer hired their workers and do nothing but being a dead cashier there....NO....hired, train them and FORCED them to do wad i did in the past...Attract customers, focus on the human traffic, the market flow, remember faces and establish a long term relation with customers, make sure uur horses are running well....not sittin there and waiting for ur foods. 5)Manage ur finance well, manage ur finance very well, and manage ur finance very very well. assets dun sit there to DISPLAY.... They gotto do the same as ur horses...Thy gotto work for u.... having extra assets , dump it into gold investment when is inflation, buy UT if u r lazy to manage, Forex if u loved it and be a shareholders for a company which u'd trusted that it will grow well.... GOOD LUCK!!! QUOTE(dragony @ Jul 9 2008, 02:48 PM) walao...you start ur pasar malam business from 13yrs old? ...then you much be rich now. You working for someone or your own business?? Dude.... I worked for my dad for lowest or no wages at all...I juz wanna sharpen my marketing skill I am not working in night market now dude....If u guys rememebred I opened a topic here hoping someone can elp me manage my finance ...I was a music tutor in some schools like chong hwa independant jhigh school, chong hwa proimary school, chung kowk, music schools and a college student....to be frank...I felt quite useless now...I am already 20 years old...I am very old liao... during my college time, i used open a stall with my fren. selling Hello Kitty accessories. Get the supply from SG Wang wholesaler.
Can easily earn RM100-150 nett profit a nite. most of the product price can be marked up to 100-200% from the cost price. As we do not have proper license, we just 'rent' or 'tumpang' from any existing stalls, just pay them RM10-20 for using part of their space. those were the days.... good memory |

May I know how is the operation model in pasar malam?
For example, the stall space, who do we pay to get the space? How about selling and buying of space? |
