some questions here.

i always change my guitar strings gauge from 0.09 to 0.1 to 0.09 back and forth. will it cause my neck to warp? if it will, will it reach a certain level that i cant recover my guitar neck to optimum performance anymore?
*
nah. I don't think it will warp your neck since the difference in gauge is so small.

But it may affect your intonation...

Hi, I've got a question for anyone who's familiar with the Marshall AVT series.

I tested a Marshall AVT150 1x12 combo in Bentley yesterday (together with a fellow co-conspirator from the Sanctuary wink.gif ). Surprisingly, when I checked the Marshall website, they don't have a AVT150 1x12 combo listed, only an AVT150 Tribute head (which I also saw in Bentley).

I also saw the AVT Tribute 20w & 100w combos and the AVT Tribute 150w head at Bentley.

Has Marshall discontinued the AVT150 combo? Come to think of it, the other AVTs in Bentley had a little plaque saying "AVT Tribute" (just like in the Marshall website) except for the AVT150... unsure.gif

Thanks in advance... thumbup.gif

EDIT: Oooh, and the Marshall logo on the AVT Tributes (20w, 100w, and the 150w head) in Bentley were a bronzey colour whereas the AVT 150 Combo was a pure white...

That's probably an older stock AVT150. I remember testing the AVT150 combo when I was on my search for my Tube Amp as well.
*
Hehe... thanks for the prompt reply, Mr Marshalltrix! thumbup.gif

Gargh! I shoulda tested the AVT100 Tribute too. Guy there said that it was the same as the AVT150 but with less effects. I tried the AVT Tribute 20w but that really really svcked b@lls... doh.gif

Eh, yours is the JCM or the JVM? Combo or stack mou?

EDIT: Erm, just wondering if you know what's the difference between JVM and JCM... they're way over my budget but I'm kinda curious... whistling.gif

JVM is the latest series. Supposed to be the answer to Mesa's Roadking series. Supposed to handle classic crunch and modern metal crunch.
JCM is the more classic Marshall-esque rock tone. But there are so many models of JCM, it's mind boggling. 800, 900, 2000.....

I'm using the JCM2000 TSL (Triple Super Lead) 602 2x12 combo....... whew.... that was a mouthful.

Might be thinking of changing to 6550 Groove Tubes and the speakers to either Celestion Vintage 30s or EVM12L Black Label Speakers...... guess which I'm leaning towards tongue.gif
*
Ah... then what's the lowdown on the DSL vs TSL?

Seriously, the array of amps that Marshall has is sweat.gif ...

And the price... sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

Grrrargh! What really annoys me is that I demou-ed EQ's old AVT150 and the gain was bloody killer. Chugga-chugga-chuggga all the way... the "newer" AVT150 in Bentley at max gain was equivalent to like half gain on EQ's old AVT150... doh.gif And I tested the AVT150 in Bentley through a DKMG with 81/85!

...seriously GASsing mou... need to rob bank mou... blow up ATM downstairs in Courts Mammoth, then go up and buy JCM mou... whistling.gif

Ok, that's it. I've got it all sorted out.

Blacktrix will go inside Bentley and distract the people there on the pretense of testing out drumsets, new amps etc.

Headhunter7 will wait outside the building in the designated getaway-mobile, preferrably something with a lot of trunk space.... how bout we go carjack a Tuareg on the way there?

Then Enteryourusername and whoever else wants a cut and me can go inside and sapu everything.

Valkyrie will be on standby with his K7 to "Blind" anyone who tries to stop us. And then we'll all follow the valkyrie to the getaway-mobile.

Oh yeah, once we sapu everything from the shop, we'll drop off the keys with Everdying.

Plan aborted. Co-conspirator Enteryourusername was too busy learning how to shred at MusicMaster.
To quote Enteryourusername, "No need break in one. Once Gapnap teach me how to play literally killer arpeggios, I'll just go there to test guitar and watch everyone drop dead. It's pretty amazing." sweat.gif

Just came back.
All I can say is that I'm not very impressed with the Roadster. Has the low-end, but not enough definition. Looks like I'm sticking with my Marshall!
*
Err... just another question, Mr Marshalltrix... what in Odin's name are Groove Power tubes? For the power or preamp? EL34 ke, 6L6 ke, AvX7 ke? smile.gif

EDIT: the 6550 you wanna get are EL34 or 6L6?

EDIT EDIT: Don't worry, I googled Groove Tubes. You're looking at 6L6s right? Does it make the gain more brutal sounding, or does it give more gain or both?

Ah... originally based on the 6L6 right? (Fuh, the wonders of wikipedia! wink.gif )

Why lah? Why not a 6L6?

EDIT:

Oooh, wanted to ask you. Yours is 60W right? Is it friggin' loud? I'm kinda looking at a DSL401 (40W) and I'm kinda scared I gotta blast before it sounds alright.... whistling.gif

Yes. I need to crank it up to healthy (ie: Ear bleeding, nausea, headaches and rectal trauma) levels to get that wonderful Marshall tone. Thank god I have a semi-isolated music room tongue.gif

So the 40w would be a pretty decent amp to crank.

And 6550 Tubes are known for a fatter sound with more headroom...... which is exactly what I need.
*
Oh... amp I'm about to test comes with Groove Tube Gold series... Slovakian 6L6 if I'm not mistaken... sh!t. I'm damn n00b with all this tube crap.

...more like just damn n00b when it comes to amps. and guitars. gargh! doh.gif

Oh yeah, here's something for Valkyrie:

sorry for the bad example
but can some1 tell me how to play this?
how do i stum fret 10 on the 5th string and fret 12 on the 3rd string?
*
If you're using a pick, pick the notes on the 5th string and use your other right hand finger (middle, ring or pinky) to pluck the 3rd string. thumbup.gif

ok i try again...i did the muting but it doesnt sound that nice..
i will try rustreaver's idea hmmm
*
Actually it depends on how what kind of effect you're trying to achieve. If you want the notes on both strings to articulate clearly, then pick the lower string and pluck the higher string.

If you want more of a "chord" sound, then mute the 4th string and strum it like Blacktrix suggested.

thanks
*
Well, you have to know the proper mantra to summon them. Make sure you've got a proper Circle of Protection drawn to keep them bound. Oh yeah, you might want to check with the National Fatwa Council. Ghost notes may have been banned already. whistling.gif

sweat.gif

...seriously... erm, I think you don't play them (i.e. don't pick them). They're supposed to be a holdover from the last note... so just sustain them.

Or are those grace notes? hmm.gif

Nah, got it second-hand from a guy who got from Bentley early this year. He paid about 3.8k after discount IIRC...

QUOTE(blacktrix @ Nov 23 2008, 06:39 PM)
But even the lowest Marshall all tube amp combo would be around 6k+.....
*
Nope.. I think I saw a JVM 1x12 for about RM5k ... DSL 1x12 probably around 4k... But yeah, the 2x12 combos would be 6k+... sweat.gif

QUOTE(+3kk! @ Nov 23 2008, 11:45 PM)
i know the ghost notes are optional notes, theres tons of definations on how you come to it.

but on one song im listening and hoping to play the notes sound very obviously played but tooo fast to be played
*
Well, guess you can try lifting the fretting hand just a bit when you play it? unsure.gif ...at least that's what Wikipedia suggests... here.

Blacktrix, thanks! It's a blast! thumbup.gif

yeah... just dropped by Bents. DsL401 is list rm51xx. jVM 1x12 is RM7k... holy crap! sweat.gif

...and GrooveTube 6L6s are 450 for 4. Not bad since MSRP is USD45 per tube...

Rust, I did try out the JVM, I liked it, but it was off my budget. 6K already pushing my budget.......

But I'm damn happy with my 602. I get the Zakk Wylde sound that I wanted and with the Hardwire Metal pedal, I get the crazy Mesa gain as well.

D@mn lucked out with the DSL... the seller's thread (mjj2332) got buried in the Trade Zone since June this year. I think he's planning on upgrading to an ENGL.... and a J.custom. sweat.gif

...stuck with my GT8 for added gain. Just bought some extra cables to go 4CM... one thing I sau-lan is I only got 2 channels, and my OD1 can't cut it for the \m/. laugh.gif

CrazyChris: Couldn't find it on the website. Plus, I'm sure the JVM 2x12 would've been waaaaaaay over my budget. Plus plus, no space for 2x12 lah! Plus plus subtract multiply, 40w also I'm cranking loud. Any bigger and I'd get a cease and desist letter from my neighbours after a week! doh.gif

Rust, I'm not sure what overdrive your GT-8 pushes out, but my ZW-44 really pushes the gain over the limit. That's why had to buy a NS-2 Noise Gate to control the gain!

The only problem I find to me, is that the FX in doesn't have enough volume to it. I hooked up my delay to FX, but so little effect, I brought it to the front instead.
*
Wei, delay in the front strange mou... don't tell me your's comes with a parallel FX loop too? unsure.gif

On a side note, finally realized that the cab/mic sims on the GT8 sounds like crap through the amp. Now I just have to crack my head on how to get the levels to match... doh.gif
