Dear all,

I'm thinking to change my original rim (steel wheel) to sport rim (alloy wheel), but not sure whether is good or bad, due to the road that I usually drive is in very poor condition, a lot of hole, bump etc..
I don't have any knowledge in this, can anyone giving me some advice?

Thank You Very Much

My view is good and bad. If you drive fast over potholes then you will likely damage your alloy wheels more than ori wheels, driving habit issue. Alloy wheels are lighter and mostly low profile, it saves you fuel and provides better grip to the road. Best for highway cruising.

So if you willing to change your driving habit for damage control, go for alloy, else, stick back to heavy and strong stock wheels, but burn more cash on pump (in general).

Thanks for the info ya. For your info the car i am currently driving is honda city idsi. current wheel is the stock 14 inch wheels.

Friend said if i upsize to 15 inch i can get better perfomance and better fuel consumption (Is it actually true since need more power to rotate the wheels?)

There are 2 aspects of this topic. Alloys are lighter, more grip but more drag as well. Stocks heavier, lesser grip and lesser drag. Drag is the contact area with the road and associated engine power needed to move the car forward without wheel spin. F1 have broad wheels with large contact area it is very hard for wheel spin. Because the drag is so high, the engine must be very powerful to rotate the wheel fast over short period of time. Most drivers will press hard on accelerator which eventually increases fc.

If not for the pickup part, low profile alloy wheels will save more fuel when cruising steadily provided not in racing mode. *every extra 1kg costs equivalent amount of fuel*
