hi... new in here..
anyone know where can i buy or adopt Abyssinian gp or Abyssinian mix gp in Cheras or KL area ?

Because..2 of my gp pass away cos of Urinary Tract Infections just after 4 and 5 days they stay wif me.....so so sad.. cry.gif cry.gif

i buy 3 of them together...just don't want them to be lonely because currently the shop left 3...

if buy 1+1 (not lonely) -------> 1 left there (alone)
if buy 1 (alone) -------> 2 left there (not lonely)

the time i buy them, i already notice 2 of them is extremely skinny...not supposed to be skinny like the fur is attached to their bone only....but, will you ignore and don't buy them even you know they look sick? because i was hoping them to grow fat fat and cute cute and *quikkk quikk* for me d....

just the first day they arrived, the two look not very active, so i thought maybe new place is not comfort for them yet..

2nd day still the same...eat also less ..just pick carrot only...

then the 3rd day...one of them start bleeding... ohmy.gif

i separate them one by one...and quickly ask my sister about it ( my sis is a vet doc )...she ask me check and she told me the symptom is show UTI...she will try to arrange some treatment for me but had to wait till Saturday(another two day).

the next day morning, when i wake up.....so sad... one of them pass away..... cry.gif
then, the other name "pudding" d gp start look so weak...i'd no choice but to giving more carrot and comfort for him..at night, he became active back, "queking" asking for eat and jump around like nothing happen.

the 6th day night , i should be bring him back to treatment after i came back from work, but just when i open my room door..it's a dead silence...i sense something bad happen to pudding and walk toward their home, my sense was accurate like hell....

too bad...
too bad.

now let a gp name "Evil Queen" alone...she is very healthy and not effect by them, looking at her size with the other two you'll know...

i know im writing too much here...

but i feel so sad for them..hoping to give a nice home after being tortured in the small shop, but they died in my hand...aiii......

so now i wanna find another mate for my "Evil Queen" d...and i will NEVER EVER go back to the fxckng stupid shop who cheat me again...

i sincerely appreciate you opinion..thanks!!

How to know the GP is lonely? Any sign? I've experience on GP...last time i use to have 1 GP (black abby female). Cant see any sign of loneliness. How to determine? But already adopted to my nephew.
*
yup..they will feel lonely too...but that's is what i reserved and research from website....

guinea pigs are social animals...they live in a group normally and need other attention on them...
normally they will squeking demand for food...but not always.
sometime they feel they need your comfort and play or toy, they will squeking too.
as my case...after two of my gp pass away...the left only female now keep squeking for me to comfort her...not for food..

im not sure actually but you can google " will gunea pig feel lonely?" then you can saw other people perception and reservation...

hope you can get the answer!! biggrin.gif

blush.gif well, i was thinking that if buy 2 gp, just scare that they will be more bonded between themselves rather than us laugh.gif

smile.gif Yup...that's y we always need time to take care and play wif any of them and what ever animals it is...we are not just rare and take care of them only...we need to take them as friends for life too..... tongue.gif

^then... stick to 1 GP 1st... as long as u can commit time to play with them 1 GP is not a problem.. and when u had bond with them and feels no enuf time or busy can add 1 more... smile.gif
*
rclxms.gif rclxms.gif Agreed...but just to remind myself and other, as long as we afraid of future no time to take care, then better hold our intention of breeding them...and make sure your family or other half will accept them and help you to take care while you're not around.....because when they get neglected...it's always sad ending.... cry.gif cry.gif

male guinea pig can get alone right?

hi lengcai,
due to my knowledge, they can actually being single through their lifes, but you had to make sure it's not lonely...and better put them at the place where they can see people and owner should always play with them, correspondent with them...but they would like some privacy such as little hut in their home to hide..... biggrin.gif

the best if can, get them a new friends, there are some people rare rabbit to stay with them too!!

They are actually social livings, so thy need someone to took care and fun with them also..running around ...blah blah blah.... tongue.gif

Hope this can help you, and happy "guinea pigging"!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I jst got my gp few days ago fr Ikano, but I'm not sure wat's the type?
Bt the fur wasn't short, long or curly hair... normal length.
Got 3 colors, Left face was brow, right was black, middle & body was white... then back was black.

It cost me $85, there got other type like spike hair oso around $30-$40.

She can eat & drinks non-stop, except during sleeping.  N poo a lots too smile.gif

Today I realised 1 of her eye was barely open, like got sth sick around her eye. I try wipe it with wet cloth, it looks better now. But that eye was smaller than another, Im not sure wat's problem? Did it get hurt or got infected by some disease??

Pls help... thanks.

* try check her fur & ear, so far nothing found smile.gif
Bt is it normal tt when we brush / stroke her, some hair wil drop off?

Hi,
I think your guinea pig is either Sheltie/silkie or Peruvian...because i also bought from there last Saturday!! isn't they all are soooooo cute....? biggrin.gif biggrin.gif the time i bought the promoter said only left one peruvian, so i take it home already, if not wrong the one you're buying are sheltie breed. Both Sheltie and Peruvian are almost the same just their coat and the growth direction of their hair are different... smile.gif

this is sheltie/silke :-

and this is peruvian :-

Yes, my gps will also jump like that (popcorning). Usually, after cleaning and 'redesigning' their cage and tunnel. Will jump for at least 10 mins with some purring. So cute watching them.

However, today i am quite sad to see one of my gp botak at its back (ard RM 0.10 coin size). Will take them both to see vet tomorrow. I have no idea what could cause it and to other gp owners, which vet is good in treating this and how much  estimated treatment? I plan to go to 'Hand N Paws' Thanks

that looks hurt...how old is your guinea pig? can tell us what's the problem after you bring to vet ? just curious what can caused this only...

urinal tract infection
what is this? and how to know?
*
sorry ....spelly mistakes...it's URINARY tract infection.... tongue.gif tongue.gif

Actually UTI are similiar to bladder stone and pyometra also...so as soon as you saw you GP got blood in their pee and poo...you needa start considering it... sad.gif

Normally if their home not clean and wet all the time then the percentage to suffer is higher.

this is what i get from somewhere else :-

UTI
Blood in the pee, squeaking while peeing, a serious and painful condition. A vet should check your pet for a possible urinary tract infection (UTI) or problem with the bladder or kidneys. A sour smell could indicate a cyst, bladder or urinary tract infection, or stones.

for detail can check on this website :-
http://www.guinealynx.info/uti.html

Hope these can help you..... biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

hi Jason,

Thanks for your information!! rclxms.gif rclxms.gif chincillas also told me that, and due to my gp still young, so they needa take both alfafa and timothy...now i just feeding them timothy and fresh vege everyday, next week will buy from chincillas and feed them nice... biggrin.gif

QUOTE(vchenv @ Oct 23 2008, 02:42 PM)
I just came back from Hands N Paw. Dr. Mervin treated both of my 3 weeks old gp, confirmed got lice and were given Advantage and fungal cream. Total medical fees (RM 43) and need to go again after 2 weeks for 3 consecutive treatment. The vet is such a nice person, informative and handled kindly the animal. For my botak gp, Dr. Mervin shaved my gp fur for better cream application. If everything goes well, they will recover in 1 -1.5 months time.

To ifeel100:
I have asked Dr. Mervin about your gp eye condition, he said might got respiratory related problem and asked you send your gp to vet asap. Price-need to diagnose 1st.

To other gp owners:
Dr. Mervin mentioned that lice developed some resistance towards Ivermectin, thus some of the eggs can't really be killed by this drug. So, need to use Advantage (~0.15ml).
*
Hi,

wow....never knew lice can do such harmful way...omg..my gp needa get rid of lice as soon as possible liao...the one i used now can't kill the eggs too...only reduce those "moving black dot" only....

thanks for the sharing!! rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

Btw, she learn 2 pee inside litter box liao...  Poo still everywhere lah  doh.gif
