Hello everyone,

I just got my piggies yesterday (Tutu and Pinky), from Pets Wonderland MidValley... Attached is their cute picture enjoying Oxbow Alfafa and Gerty.

I have some questions to experts here:

1) Around how old are my piggies, (length~10cm) because Pets Wonderland personnel told me that they are 3 months old!
2) I noticed some dark speckles on their fur (not moving), what could that be and what should i do?
3) Yesterday, their poo was a lot but today, just a little only (<10 drops) and they consumed plenty of water (should i send to vet for checkup or its normal during 2nd day although they consume a lot?)

Their food: Hagen GP pellets, Oxbow alfafa, Gerty GP food, fresh carrot, capsicum, siew pak choy (Both piggies are picky in alfafa, just eat the leaves only without the stems)

Its RM 38, Short haired... Very cute but extremely picky in food. However, they are quite intelligent, already ard 60% toilet trained.

Very tame... and funny too! Can even put on palm and they will not move. Each time i put the tunnel (PVC pipe) they even purr and today can see some popcorning.

Yes, my gps will also jump like that (popcorning). Usually, after cleaning and 'redesigning' their cage and tunnel. Will jump for at least 10 mins with some purring. So cute watching them.

However, today i am quite sad to see one of my gp botak at its back (ard RM 0.10 coin size). Will take them both to see vet tomorrow. I have no idea what could cause it and to other gp owners, which vet is good in treating this and how much estimated treatment? I plan to go to 'Hand N Paws' Thanks

I just came back from Hands N Paw. Dr. Mervin treated both of my 3 weeks old gp, confirmed got lice and were given Advantage and fungal cream. Total medical fees (RM 43) and need to go again after 2 weeks for 3 consecutive treatment. The vet is such a nice person, informative and handled kindly the animal. For my botak gp, Dr. Mervin shaved my gp fur for better cream application. If everything goes well, they will recover in 1 -1.5 months time.

To ifeel100:
I have asked Dr. Mervin about your gp eye condition, he said might got respiratory related problem and asked you send your gp to vet asap. Price-need to diagnose 1st.

To other gp owners:
Dr. Mervin mentioned that lice developed some resistance towards Ivermectin, thus some of the eggs can't really be killed by this drug. So, need to use Advantage (~0.15ml).

By the way, with Advantage treatment ~ 1week, the numbers of lice reduced significantly. and Pinky is recovering from her 'botak'

Thanks for the great info. During these hot days, my piggies just lay down the tile i provided but not in their pigloo. Btw, where did you put the icecube? Previously, i tried to put the icebags above the pigloo, but ended up my piggies sleeping in their tunnel.

To Limie: I used wired caging with plastic mat. So, most of the pee and poo will be dropped under it and occasionally, these piggies used their litter box. So, cleaning just involved discarding the old newspaper below the mat and sometimes, just wipe the plastic mat with vinegar.

To silverwineus : Sorry for your loss and thanks for sharing the valuable info, i will modify my piggies diet... . unlimited supply of hay, quarter cup of pellet and a handful of vegetables

I saw some 3 months guinea pis in PetShack, but didn't asked the gender. Price ard RM 38, short haired. You can give them a call to confirm. Pet shops in Seri Kembangan didn't sell gps, i have searched before. Hope you can find it.
