I don't think telcos will unlock the phone so u can use outside of their network. Thats the reason they lock it in the first place. Unless u have an inside man to do the job. The phone now is just un-subsidized but still locked to the telcos network.
australia's optus is charging $80 as unlocking fees (or topping up at least $80 of credits to unlock), for the prepaid plans for iphones.. i might consider one of those.. still quite ex.. QUOTE
