Hi,

I'm looking to buy the VGA cable ever since i learned about the DVD Upconversion/upscaling capability that the 360 has.

But here's my dilemma.

On Play-Asia, there are two versions of the cable, Japan and Asian version.

Asian Version: http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-et-49-en-70-190j.html

Japan Version: http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-et-49-en-70-11qs.html

Surely, this is a mistake? I thought the Region Protection was only for the Console, the Games, LIVE subscription and the Microsoft Points?

Looking through all the other accessories revealed the same pattern. The controllers, battery packs, wireless gaming receiver, hard drive, network adapter...

And the weird thing bout this is when i check the accessories listed on Renchi, there is no mention of Region Protection.

http://www.renchi.com/renchi/Xbox_360_Acce...HD_AV_Cable.htm

Although this warning, Check compatibility of games and consoles to your home country before purchasing pops up when you are bout to checkout your purchase.

Please shed some light on this matter. I dont feel like pissing my money away.

Thank you.

thanks for the info.

i've sent my query to both Play-Asia and Renchi, both have not replied me yet.

The most frustrating part of it all, Play-Asia is out of stock of both the VGA cable and the Wireless Gaming Receiver for the "Asian version"
but they have the "Japan version" in stock.

i'm like wtf?!

can't these numbnuts do their job properly. do they want our money or not?

hoping to read more testimonials from fellow users so that i would feel much better when i finally click 'Pay Now'.

BTW ventriloquist, are u using your VGA cable with a HDTV? bcoz i'm planning to and i'd love to hear how upscaled dvd looks on your display.

does it really look much better when it's upscaled from 480p to 720p?

mine's a plasma and i was just watching xvid files at a resolution of 624x352 and they look nice being upscaled to 720p over my component cables.

So i'm guessing dvds at 720x480 should look just as nice if not better.

But, do they really look mind blowing when upscaled to 720p @ 1280x720 resolution as everyone seems to claim or is it grossly overrated?

i like my component cables that came with my premium just fine. Games look gorgeous as ever, especially AitD which i'm playing now.

BUt knowing the immense power the 360 has under the hood, triple dual core cpu and all, i won't be surprised if the dvd looks SICK when upscaled.

Finally some reason to buy original dvds with DTS and DD 5.1 instead of breaking my back downloading 8Gb mkvs for 8 hrs and encoding them to WMV-HD for 10 hrs only to have no extras!

p/s: i reallly appreciate comments from people with HDTV only for this one. No offense monitor people.

the Asian 360 only plays R3 and region free DVDs. do note ori R1 DVDs won't play. no comment on the quality of DVD upscaling cos i don't use it.

360 accessories are region-free.

Want something even better, get a PS3. Blu-ray looks 10x better than upscaled DVD. I'm using the official VGA cable and I don't think it upscales to 720p. 480p at max.

And no, accessories aren't region locked. Only software.

thank you all for the feedback. very reassuring indeed. and i just got an e-mail from Renchi. This is what they had to say:

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. There is no region-coding for the VGA HD AV Cable. It is compatible with all X360 consoles.

Please feel free to contact us again for any inquiries.

Thank you,

So, there you have it! So much for Play-Asia's customer service. Not a word from 'em.

Here's my theory though on why Play-Asia has Asia and Japan version accessories on their site.

The Packaging! The manuals and documentation will have Mandarin/English for the Asia version and i'm guessing for the Japan version, it will be entirely Japanese?

Who's with me on this one?

Cmon, people. Let's work together to solve this mystery once and for all. wacko.gif

Has anyone bought the Asia and/or Japan version accessories from Play-Asia?

half correct. the manual and documentation might or might not be different, they might make a compatible packaging for japan and asian.

the main reason is the price. asian accessories and games are cheaper than japan.

Both of you are wrong.... please have this fact in mind, which version of xbox 360 come out first??? Thus there's such japan accessories. Note that this are VGA cables and it was one of the earliest accessories released of course they have two version. But they're region free lor.

Simple, the Japan version is the old stock and the Asia version is the new stock. Wanna help them clear their old stock.. hehhehe buy the japanese one lor tongue.gif .... not so smart right tongue.gif

There's region protection for microsoft points, not Xbox live subscription, so yes, he can reload his account using a US XBL renewal card.
