I am disapppointed to ask this here because of lack of info on BNM's website.

Is the the old RM5 banknote (and similarly old RM10) still legal tender? (see the pic link)

It'll be the same value. The shop won't treat it as collectable or antique.

You know the old RM1 note, I don't think this is accepted, and the RM1 coin, is also not accepted, but I know lots of grocery shops would be too happy to take it off my hands.

1 cent coin still a legal tender of currency, just the scheme of rounded up reduce its usage, BNM hasn't said it is not legal tender, if not mistaken.
So if you go to the bank to deposit 1 cent, they still need to accept it. But under rounded up scheme, you must pay in 5 cents or 10 cents, but it doesn't mean you can pay in 5 x 1 cent coin, unless BNM has stated 1 cent coin is not legal tender anymore, if not mistaken, BNM hasn't.

Rm500 & Rm1000 is no legal tender in public, but one can exchange with BNM.

Only those BNM mentioned that the currency notes or coins which are not longer legal tender (like Rm500 Rm1000), otherwise everyone in Malaysia must accept it. Old notes doesn't mean it is not legal tender.

Having said it, some really old notes which being preserved well might catch some higher value than its face value if you can find somebody interest to collect it as antique.

1 cent is still a legal tender, just rounding off mechanism get rid of its usage.

Old RM20 also a legal tender. Rm1 coin, Rm500 and Rm1000 are not.

You won't be seeing or accepting it from ATM withdrawal since the machine doesn't support the new note.

You may have higher chance of getting it if you perform an over-the-counter withdrawal.

I saw some money exchangers pasted old notes on their wall.

Guess, they're definitely legal tender.

Talk to the manager and get them to check on their policies in black and white from BNM. Create a ruckus. Always works.
The teller will be scared shit if you do that!

Anyhow, I still got the old RM5 notes in crispy condition, plus, with a CROSS right at the back (the white horizontal line across the flag pole)
rclxms.gif

I used to have the old RM1 coins (big ones, before the smaller gold ones) that was from the 70s 80s. But all lost when we moved house cry.gif
Dunno if the movers took it or we accidentally threw it away vmad.gif

I was not sure whether she was right so better not make a big fuss.

I too have a few of those $5 notes in mint condition. Some ppl say collectors will pay up to RM10 for it.
Anyone has any idea where we can sell all those old notes?

Frame these up. It's a rare peace of national currency that "supports" Christianity with the national flag!!!

I believe that's not really intention.

What was the real intention of having a cross on the back of old RM 5 notes?

The old RM5/RM20 is still a legal tender.
The RM2 is a legal tender.

1 sen coin is a legal tender.
RM1 coin is NOT a legal tender.

Old notes can be exchanged in BNM.
OR
You can just keep it.
