Erm, I am a newbie in OCing. I don't wanna OC like reach 3.5 la and so on. I just want your opinion see this rig can be optimized anot. Thx
The specs are :

|| Intel Q9450 2.66GHz 1333MHz drool.gif
|| Deepcool Alpha 7 HSF ( Forced to use because stock HSF cannot fit ) doh.gif
|| Corsair Twin2X4096-6400C4DHX ( 4-4-4-12 ) 2*2GB
|| 500GB SATAII 7200RPM HDD ( Don't know what brand dy )
|| Gigabyte X48-DQ6
|| Gigabyte ODIN PRO 550W
|| Gigabyte iSolo 210
|| Gigabyte 9600GT 512MB
|| LG SecureDisk Combo Drive
|| Samsung BWX 17" Monitor

I didn't OC now, so I wanna ask if this system can be further optimized? Because when the Vista Ultimate load from coldboot it took a long time ( 15 sec ). rclxub.gif

Besides I haven't got keyboard mouse and speaker. flex.gif Hope can get any reckon here. Thx Thx!!

i would recommend you increase the FSB to 400MHZ or (1600mhz)

it should oc very nicely to 3.2GHz without any need of voltage adjustments

you can leave the other settings alone..

first get your system to run at fsb 1600, later you can set the ram to run at 800mhz 4-4-4-12

i'm not familiar with gigabyte bios implementation , but you can refer to manual to help you.

it won burn your whole thing.. the worst thing your cpu will just overheat and throttle down... to 2.4ghz, if you feel that its too warm.. then i would suggest you change to aftermarket heatsinks.. which can provide better cooling /or increase your cpu fan speed to compensate for the increase of the cpu temp.

Nonono I know how to set the parameter, I just don't know how to find the correct value to set...

Har? My CPU stock is 2.66 how come if OC until too hot will bcome 2.4? Izit only when hot. After it cools back will get back 2.66ghz?

You mean there is a field named "FSB" in the BIOS that I can change to 1600? Cause I tot I read some say the actual value is divided by 4. Then the multiplier will only make the 2.66ghz out...

And got 1 ppl tell me that like this not stable cause RAM:FSB ratio not 1:1. What is that acutally?

Sorry I noob here. Plz plz plz help me... Thank you Jinaun koko icon_question.gif laugh.gif icon_question.gif laugh.gif

Welcome to sleepless night. Your rig looks pretty similar to mine but jz tht i use c2d only.

But that doesnt matter as it is the same step for o'cing.

Firstly for the boot time. It does not have anything to do with Processor speed but RAM quantity. 4gb is optimum and further boot speed has to do with internal setting.

As for O'cing, Google CPU overclocking ... (Duhh) lolz. Here is a source that kick start me for that.

www.legionhardware.com

Read his article on E4400, E6400 and so on. It tells you simple step on what you should be doing in bios.

showing bench is pretty useless cos it only shows results. What u need is head knowledge.

Disagree...
Showing bench is not pretty useless. It proves that your head knowledge is valuable.

Thank You Thank YOU!!!

rclxms.gif rclxms.gif rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

But now I am facing another problem. I don't know this is normal anot. I installed Vista Ultimate and run. It was very unstable. And I when I try to "sleep", the system goes sleep and suddenlly turn on and off periodically ( no VGA output, the PSU, Fan, LED, Mobo, CPU Fan ) all turn on and off non stop until I turn off the main switch or Hard-off ( long press the power button ). I don't know how to solve this. But anyhow, vista loads succesfully everytime this occured. with no error pun.

2nd is the RAM. I installed pair of Corsair XMS2 DHX 800Mhz High Performance Ram ( the latency is 4-4-4-12 ). But in Bios, the latency shows 5-5-5-18. Is this normal? When I manually change it to 4-4-4-12, the system becomes very unstable.

3rd is the Vista load very slow. From cold boot to Vista load, all took up around 1 min. Before this my XP SP2 on P4 2.4Ghz took only 15sec. But after loading it becomes quite fast and smooth.

Please anyone if you could help. Thx! rclxms.gif icon_question.gif rclxms.gif icon_question.gif

its normal.. to manually change 4-4-4-12 , u need to increase Vram to 2.1V...
