Plating is only for metal parts.
For wood, you should use chrome paint.

if u want to DIY, then u better have some skill in the "arts". The best is starting out with a cheapo guitar preferably a Kapok. Just check this website for some tutorials.

hope that helps.

wow.. chrome looks cool..

but if dented or scratched edi looks ugly...
and kinda hard to maintain as well as it attracts fingerprint n watermark easily...
need to wipe it very often...

Might want to check out/run a search on the Muse or even Ibanez/JS forums. I recall seeing a thread about guitar mods/customization in those boards.

I think it'll probably a hard DIY job, but if you're into it, go for it!

Edit: And don't forget to share your finished product with us!

maybe chrome it and then clearcoat it to protect the paint.
i've seen gold and silver chrome spray cans at ace hardware, tho im sure most hardware shops will also sell it.

don't want to break the spirit, but it looks extremely hard to do... check out the JEM site (JS section), one guy did it, but he's a serious expert in this field. The chrome spray + clear coat is worth a try, but if it was that easy Ibanez wouldn't be having such a trouble releasing a chrome guitar.

For info, they released 3 version of the chrome JS : first for joe himself (the chrome is breaking apart after few years), second : the body is not wood but luthite, third, the finish is quite fragile (still, it seems to be the most reliable one so far)

well, maybe i mixed some of the chrome JS story, you can look it up for yourself smile.gif i wanted a chrome guitar too, but finally, i'd rather have some funky painting : the chrome is only for seriously talented people biggrin.gif
