well..for starters, i didnt buy all of the games that come out on the market. I only select a few that is worth the money & time to play it which sometimes ended up not buying any game up to 2-3 months.
so it not really affecting me |

It shouldn't be an excuse to start playing pirated games
![]() Anyway, back to the topic, I usually plan the games I would buy. Usually it'll be one game every two months or so. I'm not the type who buys ALL the games that come out. Unless I'm ridiculously rich Just like snipersnake, I set aside a few bucks just for games |

I should have been clearer when I posted the poll. I'm referring to original games, not pirated ones. I think demand for used games will start going up especially with the larger selection and quantity on the market. And like Alexwlh mentioned, people are less willing to buy the lower-rated games nowadays in case the game isn't any good. Combined with the drop in the number of games being released because of higher development costs, I think this may start to slow the industry down. |

Don't get me wrong... modding is just one way to allow me to get the chance to play some low profile games (aka games that didn't get good review but worth buying).

economic slowing down did not effect game prices, so, there is not a factor. should be a bit happier though cause I'm receiving more allowance instead.

True. But for gamers who buy original, unless the price of games (and consoles) drop, it's probably looking a bit pessimistic especially if you're working and not sure about job stability. I think Sony blew their chance to launch the PS3 in Malaysia. Over the course of the next year or so, if things are looking gloomy, people who are planning to buy consoles will choose the ones that can be modded, e.g Xbox360 and Nintendo Wii. |

people would say that if u cant afford the expensive games , then dont play it. but of course if u can get alternatively by going pirates who are we to stop u. end of the day its ur money , u use ur own money , EVERYONE in this forum i bet used to or still buying pirated goods, which ever kind it is. we are in malaysia, it is accesible . i dont say its the right way. but its an alternative way. it is not as simple as u cant afford it then dont buy it nowadays. u can afford it but the alternative way , then just go for it. i think they hv a separate gate in hell for ppl who use pirated stuff to enter. to make the line shorter la for the regular sinners i think. i dont know... huhu

it is ironic that while the VG industry is showing much monetary growth (economic slowdown at most places, so ppl tend to stay home with their TVs), yet hardly any innovation growth.
no worries, the VG industry is full of sequels and copycat games. i've reached the point where every upcoming game remind me abit of a current game i own. less creative games that interest me, less motivation to buy brand new games |

In the US, it's been shown that the videogames industry is recession proof. People still buy games as a relatively cheap form of entertainment. However, for them the game prices are cheap when you consider their spending power compared with ours. And they have a lot of sources for 2nd hand games and game rentals such as Gamefly and Gamestop. Our market is still young with a lot of room to grow.

For me, the economic slowdown won't prevent me from buying my favourite games but of course, I'll be more selective, I'll buy games which have good replay value.

For me, buying less games isn't because of the economic slowdown directly... It's basically because of the economic slowdown, I can't afford to upgrade my PC to play the current games... therefore I've stopped buying (and playing) a lot of games... another reason for buying less games is because of the economic slowdown, the bosses are working me to death to keep my job and therefore, I don't really have a lot of time to play games... yea, so more or less... because of the economic slowdown, I'm buying less games.

Yeah, economic slowdown, more expenses (especially with a family) so my gaming habits are slowing down as well. First game I bought in 4 months is Battlefield BC. I don't mind it, at least gives me some room to breathe till the next killer game comes up.

The great thing about games nowwa days is multiplay. i.e GTA 4 you may have finished the game but because u can link up with your friends and play its has longer lasting appeal.
As to the topic I feel that I am now more selective to the titles I wish to purchase and dont be too excited and be driven by impulse. |
