Mod please pin it to warn others of this. Some might already know of this but just to let others know
I just got a fake Mp4 player with fake capacity of 2GB.I tried loading more files into it and it got corrupted. So I dig around the web and found many buyers having this problem. Its because this stupid chinese maker hack the firmware and make the player report 2GB but in actual fact the player might only have 256MB memory so loading more files into it corrupts the whole thing.
Most cheap chinese MP3/MP4 players reports a fake memory capacity. For example while the actual memory is 256Mb it may report to windows a 2Gb memory. Loading files beyond the actual capacity corrupts all data.

Download the MP3 player utilities, install and run the MP3 Player disk tool. Select the partition and encrypt tab.
Here is the way to fix your mp4 player either bricked or non-functional one.
How to Repair an MP4 Player's False Memory
Fake mp3 players, known as mp4 players and often called Chipods (a combination of Chinese and iPod) often have a false memory capacity reading. This is due to the firmware being cracked and redesigned to display a certain capacity when plugged in, even though the actual capacity is usually far less.
Many consumers have been scammed into purchasing the fake iPods, while others have purchased them knowing they were fake but not caring - a 4gig MP4 player that looks like a Nano is cool, right? Unfortunately, often these customers don't realize that the capacity is, indeed, fake, and that they've been scammed. These consumers usually plug their device in and begin transferring videos and songs to it. Everything works fine until suddenly the player crashes, and refuses to play anything. This is because the actual capacity of the player has been violated, and it is now stuck in a an unforgiving loop.
If you have an mp4 player/Chipod and need to get it unbricked, the following instructions will teach you how. This method will make the player usable once again, will erase the false information about the capacity, and let you see just how much it can hold. It won't make the player hold the stated capacity, but will at least allow you to use what you have.
Items Needed:
Suspected fake capacity or crashed mp4 player
Computer
USB or data cable for device
MP3 Player Disk Utility
Step 1: The first thing you need to do is download a program called MP3 Disk Utility. This is a free program. You can locate it by doing a quick Internet search. Install it to your computer.
Step 2: Plug your device into your computer using the data transfer cable - most of them take simple mini-USB cables that can be purchased from an electronics store for a couple of dollars.
Step 3: Start the MP3 Player Disk Utility program. Under the FORMAT tab, choose the correct drive letter for your player. For example, on my computer it is F:/. Set the format to QUICK and don't check the MAKE BOOTABLE DISK box.
Step 4: Switch to the second tab. You will see a slider option. Drag this slider all the way to the right side of the screen. Now press START to format it.
Step 5: Once the formatting is complete, repeat the above process, only this time, slider the slider back in the opposite direction until it reads 0MB. Press START.
Step 6: Now that it is finished, close the MP3 Player Disk Utilities and open My Computer to see your mp4 player icon. Right click on it to see what it's actual capacity is. Don't be surprised if it's half of the stated capacity.
