Hie ~ I just got myself 2 new winter whites today (2 brothers, should be ok right? and they are quite young >.<)

If you guys could share with me some things i would be very grateful.

1. I'm using the uhm, tube to drink water for them (stuck on one side of the cage) but they don't seem to be drinking from there. Anyway to teach them? >.< (I used a plate of water before and they tried to learn how to swim =.=)

2. Is it ok if i keep them with me in my aircon room (not 24 hours on la >.<, when i go to class i move them to my hall also)

3. Anyway to teach them to use bathing sand, i got this little poceline thing but they use it to sleep =.=

I will really appreciate your feedback. I've had dogs for over a decade, but this is the first time i've had hamsters. Kinda nervous >.<

PS: They are sooooo adorable >.<

Thanks for the people who gave me advice earlier on. I just bought bathing sand for the 2 fellas, they jumped happily into the toilet, and started to feast on the sand... O_O!!!!! I nearly threw them out of the sandbox lol when i was in a rush to get the sandbox out from the cage XD *nearly, in case anyone tries to sue me for critter abuse =P*

So now i have decided- get a bigger cage...lol cos i removed their food box to put in the sandbox, so i guess i got them mixed up, its strawberry flavour summore >.<

I found that the previous cage i had was too small, so i went out and got a haitrail mini for my two little boys. Bought the whole cage for RM65, but when i got home i realized that the hamster wheel was missing =.= Lazy go back argue with the aunty and get the wheel (since i don't really like the hanging design also), so i'm looking around for a wheel that will fit hehe.

As for the cage, i find the idea of a mushroom waterhole abit weird =.= but my hamsters are willing to drink frm it so it will serve its purpose for awhile, until i find a new water bottle that fits. The hanging mushroom hideaway was kinda mind boggling for my hamsters, they had no idea how to use it, so i took that away and put in their old toy houses. Guess the only thing i'm planning to use is the food bowl lol

On the good side, the latch door on the front of the cage makes it very convenient for scooping the hamsters out of the cage plus the wired bars are abit high up so they can't chew on them. (but that does mean i have to find an alternative for them to climb, since they like to be spiderman so much) Plus the cage is convenient to clean.

I also bought prestige hamster nature for the two boys, but they seem to be addicted to kua chi and are ignoring the food =.= I still give them a few kua chi a day, but i'm planning to leave the bowl of food there and let them eat that only, so they can get used to it.

Thats all for my update hehe~

Wanna thank Sangels for my wheeeel !!!! You are such a great person !!!

Update:
My WW's still aren't eating much of their prestige. (Mebbe the theory is like, me not liking vege?? =P)
You guys good la, got Petshack to go to. Here in Penang, the hamsters are treated like ... commodity, different batches of hamsters thrown in the same small tank, little food, not healty...sad.

Update on my 2 WW...
I think one of my WW is a girl !!! Cos one has very obvious 'bola' but the other doesn't. Omg? (The petshop guy @ CTY said they were both males...)

They sleep alot during the day, but as soon as you switch off the light, you can hear all sorts of sounds coming from the cage haha...dunno what they are doing inside =P

Phing Phong is cute wor.. chubby..

but if like u say one turn to male. n if they are silbing, then hv to seperate oh.. later inbreed sad.gif

hehe...everyone loves chubby hamsters blush.gif

Nono is one i suspect is female, but i have no expertise to be sure @@. I'm not sure if they are siblings cos although i choose them from the same cage, phing was half smaller than phong. I'm not sure if the phrase 'runt of the litter' includes hamsters hahahahaha

QUOTE(Sophiera @ Jul 25 2008, 12:38 PM)

LOL Ping pong balls..they're cute and perhaps just as bouncy ihn personality as one tongue.gif

They sleep practically 24 hours a day, only when i switch off the light do they come out. (taking nocturnal to the extreme?) But when they wake up they are very fun to play with, very inquisitive but still have to tame them more to get them to eat on my hand, only do that occasionally. sweat.gif

They've been together since i got them, they sometimes squabble abit but they seem ok together, even sleeping together. If they start fighting i'll seperate them.

@nezumitaro

I've been in alot of petshops in Penang but i have yet to find a sable banded syrian. All i see are those gold ones.

Anyway i read somewhere...that to attract a runaway hamster you can take a tall tupperware (taller than your hamster la) place a cushion below and its favourite food, place a ladder leading up to the tupperware and set it in a corner

Apparently hamsters will smell the food and fall into the tupperware container (hence the cushion).

Good luck to your friend !
