Good thing you live in Sunway, I hope there will be a good petshop near my place too. Sigh.
Anyway, Pet Shack is still a considerable choice to my place biggrin.gif

sweat.gif That cage ler... If you can tahan their chewing then ok lo. No doubt they will bite the bars. Robos are harder to train not to bite bars.

I always advise people to buy robos in pairs but if it's 1 male and 1 female I wanna ask you to rethink o. Most likely they're siblings or similarly related.  sad.gif The babies that come out from sibling breeding is not nice wan.
*
My robos never bite the bars brows.gif brows.gif
May be you can try to let them used to in a tank, before you move them to a cage.

@sangels: his parents must have hard time raising him, could be a rebellious kid.. maybe we can advise his buyers from 'behind the scene' loh..

Happy b'day to Jayniel! rclxm9.gif

I went to Pet Family just now, saw a lot of black gene syrians. Cute!
But I don't understand why some is greyish black while some are, totally black?

The greyish ones are sables, not blacks. There is only 1 more true black in there and it looks like a rat. The prettier black I bought jor for my bf's younger brother.  tongue.gif

I hope you didn't buy yar.

My Roche is tame like button mushroom. But my Ferro is exactly like your ocha...  sweat.gif
*
Huh?? Why cannot buy?? The black really looks like RAT, i like the sable ones better laugh.gif

If buy from petshop, how to tame them?

My ocha? What mean?

Added on July 11, 2008, 10:42 pmOhh.. I got it, you want it? Haha, I prefer sables, no worries laugh.gif

Sorry sorry. Ocha is neshie's sable banded.

So ugly de hamster you want meh... Its feature really look like a rat! There is one really pretty sable banded inside. We were considering the black and that cute sable but since we were paying RM 25 for a black, we thought may as well get a true black banded. If you're going to buy a hamster that looks like a rat with a really short tail, go and get a fancy mouse la... So wasted.

Petshop ar... Same like how u tame every hamster lo. But they are not very easy to tame. Roche is a breeder's syrian. Ferro is a petshop syrian. Ocha was bought at the same place as Ferro. So from the trouble we both seem to be having, you prefer breeder bred or petshop bought?
*
That's why i prefer sable. smile.gif

Hmm, actually i never learn how to tame syrian. When I reared hamster few years back, what I did is only get them out from the tank and play with them, when i was young. I bought it from a breeder, but not ethical/professional as anyone in here though. So i didn't bother to tame, just play with them is good enough biggrin.gif
But the problem is they do bite me sometimes, my fingers were covered with blood few times. But i still like them so much, until unfortunate things happen to them. Ermm... off topic already. tongue.gif

Is there any replacement for sanko or wodent wheel, for syrian? It's really quite expensive for me to afford. Sigh sad.gif

Got picture?

Aiyah, that is possible for all long haired syrians.... not considered satin. No poor satins as poor satins are double satins.
That Ocha part was meant for Neshie...

Anyway, black is rare.... not rat unless you think that way. Sable is like cheap at most petshops and they are just cheating people to think sable is black.

Black got no cream eye ring, Sable has cream eye ring.
*
What mean by cream eye ring? They have eye brows?

erm...sorry to pop up at this time...still a newbie learning to keep my robo well....i juz wonder if my robo suddenly scratch the water bowl (the mushrom water bowl fr habitrail) and continously kicking away all nearby bedding...does tat indicate anything? he also have very small squeking sound...i wonder if he feels ok? any ideas?
*
It's like a digging action right? I think it's ok because mine have already doing such thing all the time. Sometimes they even dig the top of their toilet. sweat.gif

But squeking part I'm not sure though.

Added on July 11, 2008, 11:02 pmOhh, I wanted to add on something. I saw some of the syrian in Pet Family yawn. So I wish to clarify whether yawns mean they're relax or just a meaningless action?

*
I think use toilet sand is better, plus I remember I saw somewhere somebody said sand bath is not ideal to keep with the hamster, just to let them play with the sand bath once a while will do.

My Roche will. After she runs about an hour in the ball, if she managed to find my leg, she will try her best to follow me. She knows I give her mealies when I take her out of the ball.  biggrin.gif

She will climb out of her cage and look around my palm for some food when I take her out. Always smoothie and mealies will be available.

shakehead.gif My Ferro... Sigh... Climb up on my hand, ignore all mealies, smoothies, fruits, vege, etc etc. Most important is find the exercise ball so he can pretend to be a house f;y by bouncing off the walls.

As in taming?  hmm.gif Roche was already kinda tame when I brought her home. Se was bought from a breeder.

biggrin.gif But I would say the same thing : Love = patience + sacrifice.

So if we love them we must be very patient when they don't respond and sacrifice the time we have for them.  tongue.gif Of course bribing helps a lot.

Hamsters who have a lot of contact with people tend to get use to human contact. Plus whenever they are having human contact, reinforcing the experience with food makes it more enjoyable for them. Not only is human contact safe, it is "profitable" for them in the sense that they can get more delicious food.

blush.gif Just my personal tip, stroking them softly works. Try to mimick the short spurts of grooming just like the way mummy hammies do to their pups. Hamsters like that.
*
Hmm.. I wonder... My robos do not dare to get on my palm even I've been feeding them mealies with the same hand for over a month. Sigh sad.gif

I never breed hamster, how do you mean stroke like mother hamster? I don't get it... hmm.gif hmm.gif

QUOTE(Jamien @ Jul 15 2008, 01:05 AM)
If you have the time you can try this method. Take out all the food from the hamster tank. When feeding time comes, put the food in the center of you palm and put your hand on the bedding. They will come. If not first day, 2nd or 3rd day also they will come. They will see your hand as a "source of food". Bonding can start later.

Robos are very timid so dont be disappointed they don't react quickly to you.

Mummy hamsters lic their babies... Hmmm... Kinda like mummy dogs cleaning their puppies?
*
The first method I tried few days already, in average of 2 hours a day, but that was at the beginning, at the day I first get them. But after that I'm worried they might be starved, so I gave up and give them food in bowl. After that I never try again.

Hamster got tongue? I never seen any before, except their fangs. Ummh, I tried to brush them with toothbrush, but end up running for life. Then I tried to use my hand to sayang them, sometimes they sit still, sometimes run for life also shakehead.gif One thing I'm sure is, it's prohibited to rub their belly, or any lover than their agouti fur part, otherwise they'll run like hell. May be they feel itchy? laugh.gif laugh.gif

I think robos are better in pair or group. I'm thinking to get my robos more companion, but I think it would be difficult to intro since they're entering the adult stage. sad.gif

my female robo just give birth and the babies cant make it, if i put the male robo in same tank, should be pregnant again, so i separate for a while.. about 2 months, maybe?
*
I see. So that would be another case.. I thought you wanna separate them forever. Last time I separate mine for 3 days only, they looks really sad, though I know they have no emotions, but their behaviour is kinda weird, they're not active as usual. They just sit still even they're awake, eat a little, drink a little. HORRIBLE! They don't behave like a robo after all. So I reunion them in the same cage again.

I separate them because of some LONG story issues, lazy to explain it here. Haha. Please forgive me. smile.gif

Albino is not a disease. The dying young part is another type of gene(ANOPTHALMIC WHITES), Eyeles and Teethless white die young,...... how come? Read....

Ok, got it. So albino refers to pure white? I got that definition from some websites, may be it's a misleading one.

i was told it isnt suitable to use cat litter as bathing sand because cat litter has a kinda chemical might be harmful to hamster.... but if u talking about paper based cat litter can la... if those coloured biji biji ones, better dont lor... jz go to the beach and get some beach sand back.... filter and baked it to kill all the bacteria...

i'm using filtered beach sand as litter tray lar.... didnt bake coz dun have oven.... tongue.gif
anyway, i'm using separate tray for litter and bathing sand.... bathing sand i use chincilla sand... litter tray only use beach sand... smile.gif
*
I was told that chincilla sand is not that suitable, as it's too dusty for hamster. Well, correct me if I'm wrong.

UNDERGROUND, how old is your hammie? Mine won't eat mealies yet, he's already 1 and a half month. I wonder is there any way to make him eat, except beheading the mealies, suggested by anderyna, it's really disgusting. doh.gif
