QUOTE(anderyna @ Jul 1 2008, 12:57 AM) Robo with RC? Not possible. Why? Coz both are different species of hamsters. Even if they mated, they cannot produce babies coz the genetics are so different. Is like human breed with a monkey, cannot have babies at all. Different DNA as well. Only WW and RC can interbreed coz they share the same genetic make up. QUOTE(Jamien @ Jul 1 2008, 01:27 AM) Of course not. If can then early early also got people try and make it a new breed already. Plus the babies or the babies sired by that batch of babies will be sterile. No point. Wah, at last his balls are out LOL. My Hak Cai (black banded) has bit pink balls with black velvety fur on it. LOL. Funny to see. Even his tail is pink with velvety black fur.BTW, I am glad to announce that Ferrero is a MALE!!!! Can see his testicles. So Hun was right. Hehe... QUOTE(jayniel @ Jul 1 2008, 01:53 AM) robo and RC ar.. hmmm... i dun think can cross breed lar.. one is so big, one so small.. if got also, will produce cacat pups or the babies die in womb.. the fella lie 1 maybe? Robo and RC confirm 100% cannot breed coz different species of hamster. Genetic make up cannot fit together. So that guy is just lying.imagine if pair a female robo + male RC, i dun think the RC is able to chase her all around the cage, cos robos run so so fast.. also robos are hard to breed, they're very very choosy of their mates.. even if breed, the babies will die in the mother's womb, and the mother may die too, cos the babies are so BIG.. if it's a male robo + female RC, alamak! i think he'll do worse than Nezu's boyboy.. the male is half the female's size.. QUOTE(Waachaaa @ Jul 1 2008, 09:52 AM) Hi Guys, 1. Syrians are the biggest. Chubbiest is depending on what you feed to it. Every species of hamster can be chubby and cute but if you feed cheap crappy food, then your hamster can be underweight, while feeding high in fat food like kuaci would give you an obese and unhealthy hamster.Im new here and probably have a few noob question on hamster. Hope you guys can clear my doubts. Q1. Is Syrian hamster the chubbiest, fattest looking hamster among the 5 species? If not which species is that? Q2. Correct me if im wrong, i read on the 1st page stating 2 Syrian hamster shall not be placed in the same cage. But i was wondering how come those petshop able to place groups of the same species under the same cage? Q3. How much lifespan is an average Hamster? Or they varies between species? Q4. I still have doubts placing a SINGLE Syrian hamster in a cage will not bored it to death. I always thought the more the merrier. Thx 2. Pet Shop tank has like 30 Syrians inside. They have no choice, no territory to fight, no place to really call their home. They tolerate each other but do you know that everyday, 1 or 2 hamsters die or get injured from fighting? Also, the Syrians are young at petshops. They rarely sell adults because really aggressive territorial fightings start when they reach 3 to 4 months old. 3. RC lives up to 1.5 to 2 years, WW lives up to 2 to 2.5 years, Robos can live 3 to 4 years, Syrians about 2 years. 4. Hamsters get bored if you do not give them a wheel. Robos need to be in groups or pairs because they naturally live and survive in colonies. WW and RC survive in colonies in the wild but in captivity when we provide small cages for them, they rather be alone. Syrians are COMPLETELY 100% SOLITARY. They never get bored alone, they will get bored if you do got give them a wheel or things to do. QUOTE(Sophiera @ Jul 1 2008, 05:35 PM) I want to know more about corn cob bedding. Cannot find aspen, woodchips semua pine and softwood...Yesterday's paper is too expansive. So far it seems fine, and I have a huge bag of it. Online said it's a good choice but seeing as all of you use something else..I'm starting to get worried Corn Cob is ok. Just noisy when a hamster digs stuff. Yesterday's News? Do we have it here? I normally use Breeder Celect or Healthy Pet. QUOTE(Sophiera @ Jul 1 2008, 05:53 PM) that's a relief Hamsters are picky if they are given a choice of grains. So do not worry, she will eat eventually.I'm also wondering how to entertain my hamster...she's not easily entertained. I tried giving a stick, she ignored it. Paper roll...only a bit was chewed. Nothing but the wheel seem to interest her, I want her to stop biting plastic also :\ And she's extremely picky with the Slius mix. Like tak makan saja >_< The best thing is a wheel. In the wild, hamsters run for miles... QUOTE(Jamien @ Jul 1 2008, 08:51 PM) Cuz the dragon fruit taste? Hehe... Our hammies like the red pepper taste. I give before. Attack like so hungry. My hamsters like to eat fresh bell peppers, yellow or red or green. Why Sunday you cannot? Sunday many people free ma. You also not studying mar. Ferro pee on his wheel la. How to make him stop. In the midst of planning a small animal BBQ gathering, most probably it will be around September or October. We did a 2006 small animal BBQ before, it went super well. Wheel, normal for them to pee..... Hedgehog worst.... pee and poo.... then they get poopy feet coz step on the pee and poo. |

Hi all, have been following this thread since last Sunday when I got myself a pair of WW. Thanks for the info on snapping pictures as well as the bedding too.
I have one concern, since it's a pair, and after reading some of the post, I am thinking of separating them onto different cages. Do you all think it's a better idea than keeping them together? |

It depends how old is the sibling & how big is your cage/tank.I have one concern, since it's a pair, and after reading some of the post, I am thinking of separating them onto different cages. Do you all think it's a better idea than keeping them together? They can tolerate each other if stil early for 2 or 4 month, then if your cage/tank is not big enough for the 2 of them, they might fight for teritory earlier then. |
