Boiled chicken? tau foo?
But generally I prefer mealies. Easy to get and feed and won't spoil since only need to keep alive. Have you tried cutting off the head and squeeze the juice out for your hammie? My Roche likes to dip dip her mealies in smoothie. How about you try "flavoring" the mealies in the smoothie first? All syrians love mealies la. For my Roche and Ferro, it was first love. |

They make that noise only when you catch them? Then probably just difference of attitude. Your big one is dfensive. Chooses to fight. Your small one is panic pro. Will make loud noiises to warn the others. But also mean it's damn scared of you lar.
Both your robos have not come to trust you yet. |

My syrians ate their red devil omega 3+6 last night and then buried the smoothie dish under a mountain of shavings. I think they like it so much that they don't want me to take it away from them.

Hey guys, my boyfriend was playing with Roche the other day. I asked him to train her to "stand" with the treats. But when she smelled the treat, she started doing crazy stunts. Not so much as "stand". She started HANGING.
P/S: I all the pictures, my Roche is hanging on her own. My boyfriend is not holding on to her in any way but just letting her hang her leg there. Presenting Roche, the coke loving hamster. ![]() ![]() ![]() Notice her treat stuffed cheek. My Roche is so greedy. This post has been edited by Jamien: Aug 20 2008, 09:14 PM |

QUOTE(anderyna @ Aug 20 2008, 09:34 PM) my sugar also same.. she likes to hang herself at the top of the cage.. when i gave her treats at this time, she will Sometimes it's like really funny cuz hamsters act like sugar gliders. 1. use 1 hand to hang and the other hand grab treats from me and stuff into her mouth OR 2.use her legs to hang and grab treats from me BUT i have forbid that @snoopie: If they are syrian hamsters, you should not keep them together. They are solitary and forcing them to stay together is making them feel stressed. How about taking out your hamster and putting him in isolation. Give it lots of food and water and fresh. As soon as you can, bring to a vet. |

Stressed living things, may it be humans or hamsters, can easily get sick. This is why stressed hamsters are so prone to wet tail.
Snoopie, how old is the hamster you mentioned? If you place them all together then there must be some massive inbreeding going on as well... Inbred hamsters get sick even more easily. |

We are not asking you to give it away. We are asking you to give it proper husbandary.
There are many TAR students at Wangsa and can help you to bring to a vet. But you still need to pay lar. Syrians are said to be solitary because living with others of its kind makes it stressed out and this is proven through very throrough and long studies. We are asking you to keep each of your syrian on its own. Inbreeding produces weak pups. And stress makes it more prone to disease. The pet shop people will always ask you to buy 2 and buy a small hamster cage with it. Why? Cus they wanna make looking after hamsters look so easy and affordable. They wanna sell more. Cages can keep but nobody buys old hamsters. Hamsters that are about to die or have a disease and is wasting away, will basically lie down and sleep a lot. Their food intake will decrease. And of course their activity will decrease. This post has been edited by Jamien: Aug 20 2008, 10:13 PM |

Pet shops don't really have a choice mar. They can't possibly afford to give every syrian their own cage right? But because they house in big numbers that sometimes, a fellow syrian gets murdered and eaten...
Inbreeding is basically what we call incest in human terms. brother mating wif sister, or father wif daughter, or mother wif son. Why incest is forbidden? Cuz the products (babies) can be born cacat or got problems. Their immune system is weak and it makes them sick easier. Applies to hamsters as well. Inbred hamsters can be born with deformities and are weak in terms of resistance to diseases. |

But tame hamsters gives you the satisfaction of actually owning one. Seems like both my hamsters have no talents to do tricks (even though Roche is so greedy) but they're very tame and I feel happy whenever I handle them.
I graduated from TAR college (just last July actually If your hamsters are tame, you'd wanna be with them more. Trust me. Hehe... |

QUOTE(Snoopie @ Aug 20 2008, 10:35 PM) The problem imagine im staying in Subang and study in Setapak.. 1hr drive from my place.. I used to travel by train. Everyday for 22 stations per trip. 1 day 2 trips. So 2 hours of my time wasted. My day was composed of 22 hours only. But I still found at least half an hour a day for each of my pets. Everyday i drive there morning and evening it will jam.. Reach home also night time already.. My hamster is just normal to me.. Im glad they stop bitting me already.. Last time 1st day bring them home.. They bite me until my hand bleed.. So if I can do it, surely you can. Hamsters at about 4 weeks to 2 months look more or less like adult hamsters. Hamsters have very short gestation periods mar. One male can impregnate many females and give birth to baby hamsters who are half siblings. Mos pet shops get their hamsters from suppliers who pair up hamsters and make them breed all year long till it die. 1 syrian can give birth to 6-12 hamsters each time. How you know if your hamster are not siblings or in anyway related? The market is full of semi related hamsters. Do you know how hamsters arrive in pet shops? I've seen it in pet safari. |

Syrians don't get lonely. They don't play together. They're just notions that we humans put on them because we want to see our pets together happily and not lonely and sad.
If you want communal hamsters that actually like being with each other and love to play together, eat together, etc, i suggest you get robos. When one runs on the wheel, the oher would want to too. Do pay heed that robos have very very high rates of being inbred in our country. So don't buy 2 at the same time from the same shop if you want to breed. |
