QUOTE(Jamien @ Jul 1 2008, 01:54 AM) It's been about 3 weeks that I brought him home. I think he was one month plus when I brough him back. Since I bought him when we all one gang went hammie hunting, Hun mentioned that Ferro was male. One weeks later Nezu delivered smoothie to my place and help me check his sex. She say he is female. Cuz "he got no ball ball" as she put it. Then she say MAYBE his testicles will show after he gain some weight. So Ferro remained an unsure gender till today. Then today my sister handle Ferro and Roche. Then at eye level, I saw his testicles. Not big at all since it's not noticeable unless I look at eye level. Then can see 2 "bump" which Roche didn't have. QUOTE(nezumitaro @ Jul 1 2008, 09:26 AM) i use veseline:), like mite say, any comsumable oil or baby oil will do. but not cooking oil ah. cooking wil become sticky after sometime. I see, I thought it would be obvious after its mature age, like 3-4 months? Hmm, Ferro gotta be a 'male', it's nice to let him show some male's power finally hahha.. i am sure with ur good food he grow up now normal a well feed hammi can see in early age, but sometime when we get from pet shop they r not so well feed since baby(from breeder to the shop), then they may not develop so soon. after we bring them home with good intake. they will grow and will show. |

Hi guys, I got a question. How long it takes for a hammie to start consuming mealworms or fresh vegies/fruits?
Actually I mean after the baby hammy is weaned, usually how long it takes to consume things other than staple food? This post has been edited by kmao: Jul 6 2008, 05:19 PM |

QUOTE(UNDERGROUND @ Jul 6 2008, 07:46 PM) @ crazymouse I tried PM you regarding the hamster play pen, you never reply the PM, is it still available ? @kmao As long as they don't depend on their mother's milk anymore ? QUOTE(Jamien @ Jul 6 2008, 08:22 PM) Wean means that a particular living thing stops depending on mother's milk and can eat solid foods. Smoothies can be fed to very young pups (before weaned) I'm not sure about mealies. But surely after wean since it's considered as solid? Oh ya, to share my experience here, hammies happen to consume packaged mixed-vegies. I thought of this idea to feed my robos mixed-vegies (or what-ever so-called) when I was going to add it into my fried rice. Well, they don't eat at the first, but they clean it all when I get back to them. =.= |

QUOTE(nezumitaro @ Jul 6 2008, 11:59 PM) they should able to eat fresh 1st before commecial staple food. as long as they can eat solid.. say 10 days old.. but still they need their mummy milk cute fela there just put some toilet sand in the bowl/toilet, sooner later he will learn it. yes normally they only pee in toilet, but poo everyway. unless VERY good syrian only will pee ppo in toilet.. QUOTE(nezumitaro @ Jul 7 2008, 12:16 AM) those are not nutrition, its better u get fresh carrot, corn and bean. but still do feed in a balance way Thanks for the advice again Nezu. |

In what circumstances a syrian will active like a winter white? is it scared or stressed or something? I saw some syrians in Pet Safari run like running for life, i thought it was some kind of disease like the ww's back flipping, but i think it's not. Anyway, they do sit still sometimes. My observation was last for 5 minutes i guess.

QUOTE(blurjoey @ Jul 7 2008, 04:53 PM) JY, Yeah, dog kibbles are good for hammie's protein. But please be aware of the protein of the dog kibbles, some may contain very high protein. I'm feeding those, just 2-3 pieces in a week. If you really got nothing to say then don't post this 1 liners. It makes no sense at all what you are saying at all. Added on July 7, 2008, 5:00 pm Dog kibbles are ok but don't get cheap kind like Pedigree. Can try to get free samples dog food for hamster's protein. Can try Holistic garlic-free dog kibbles. Just feed about 3-5 pieces a day would do. Kuaci also can feed but in small amounts. |

If hamster yawns means they're relaxed? How come they'll still nip my fingers.. And sometimes hard bite on my nails. Pheeew, if it bites my finger I'm afraid I'll let it have a big fall from my palms, accidentally.

QUOTE(Jamien @ Jul 8 2008, 12:12 AM) I find only the alphas do this. Young robos might also pick up this behavior. So blow on them to tell them they shouldn't. They usually nip the nails harder since they can feel it is harder than your flesh. |

QUOTE(Jamien @ Jul 8 2008, 12:54 AM) To start with, Pet Safari syrians are sick and very strressed. They lack space and equipment to exercise. When they do exercise (by running around the tank) they'll step on other syrians and fight may occur. How to avoid? Run away lar. And of course they are very frightened. I mean, in such huge numbers, you won't know why if suddenly another hamster bite you or wanna kill you. It can happen anytime. So cleep also not sleep well. Ohh, that's why they're said not tamed. Alright, thanks for that. I gotta teach my robos a lesson when they bite my nails. So when compare, my Roche sleeps like a pig. She won't scared who poke her or what. Tidur mati setiap hari. Ferro on the other hand, you touch him a bit in his sleep, and he'll get defensive. So I usually try my best not to kacau and handle him until he is wide awake. Blow on them softly, to shock them a bit. Let them know there are consequences for biting your hand. Teach them they cannot do thatand they cannot exceed our dominance. It takes a while but usually they learn lar. |

QUOTE(Jamien @ Jul 8 2008, 10:44 PM) It's not a miracle that happens overnight mar. Patience. Wat is the symptoms of him being scared of you/ Run away? Hide, Get defensive and bare fangs? Patience, YES, definitely! I finally make a miracle in my life, both my robos RUSH to reach my palm and search for mealies DESPERATELY every night, muaaahahaaahaaa! You can try bribing it with food. I do that with mealies (although Ferro still wont take those from my hand). Sometimes fruits and vege also. Put lotsa food in the centre of your palm and wait VERY patiently for Colby to climb on your hand (which should be on top of the bedding) and eat it. Let it get used to it for a few days. Then gently lift your hand a bit from the bedding. When he gets frightened he'll run down again. Wait for him to come back with your hand on the bedding again. Love = patience + sacrifice. Good luck! I've been spending at least 1, to 4 hours every night, for three whole week to feed them food and to touch them sometimes. It's time for me to dominant another breed. Syrians!
