Nezu, I must remove the smoothie after 3 hours right?
Well, I did what you told me and she hardly makan also. I give one small chinese soup spoon of it, added two pieces of food and... she only eat it when it's icy cold. Really need to give very little. Yeah the rest of the day didn't eat. So now I put her usual dry food back... will try again this time handfeed with a spoon |

I took the wheel out and soak it in vinegar water....
Why? She turned it into her toilet too. Must wash and give rehab liao. How long do I need to keep the wheel in the vinegar and out of the cage before she gets the idea that is not a toilet? |

She doesn't use the toilet... I can't even find the place where she pees! She poops anytime and anywhere she likes, even in the food bowl.
Very random hamster. |

A bit hard to see with corn cob. Everything is dry, no stains anywhere either. Maybe need to lift the entire tank and see from the bottom

Nezu, I was wondering...since you do breed hamsters you must have a breeder's goal right?
What is it you want to achieve? Is it size? Colour? New strain? Just curious since your hammies so fat and chubby and nice. |

People's been asking for my pictures, finally recharged the thing and took snapshots over the course of few days
this is the tank. the cage on top of it is the old cage...no space so up it goes for the time being. It'll be a temporary cage for all the future pets, easy to put in and transport. Green thing is smoothie not poo! this is Bean before the smoothie, or rather 2 days or so. Really cannot remember. and I know the picture is Terribad anyway...she keep moving and no flash summore lol This is 4 days or so after smoothie, this time she knows how to eat it. first thing to tackle is that, lol Oh? She's about 2 plus years old I think. since this is a rescued hamster, exact age is unknown. Not young ham anymore...quite old. As you can see, she's a bit botak. this is the top veiw. This is bean about 6 days after smoothie. I'm not sure if there's improvement because I see her all the time. This is her cute face. My mom was making sure she doesn't fall of the chair as I snap the pic this is the top of day 6, a lot less oily but still kinda botak. Improvement much? I usually sprinkle some sand on her and then brush. Not so much oil but still matted spots. This is her merajuk face A closeup on that. she's not afraid of flash, but very very shy. She'll NEVER eat outside the cage. The hay that colour....throw away or can still be used? It looks brownish, but it smells green...so I'm confused and need expert input! In case you are wondering where all the bedding, hay, poo and uneaten food go... It goes into the compost bin. Veggie pickings, spoiled fruits...anything plant matter goes in there. I do use my urine from time to time. The bag by the side are goat poo slow-release pellets, fertilizer basically. I know this is getting off topic towards the gardening section, but these are for those people who wonder what I do with the composted hamster bedding. Though most of them are just used as mulch...then cannot use as mulch also. Pot too full already. The rather weak looking sunflower were from the hamster cage, last time gave quite a bit of kuaci and ham can't finish all. the plant itself is much more nutritious than the seed, so I fed one leaf to her before. Unfortunately, only one leaf as you can see if I cut any more sure kaput. Should have taken pictures of the flower itself, actually lol. Once a gift to someone...the person gave it back to me. these are some of the fully compost based pots. Two coriander and one tomato (planted yesterday with the whole overripe tomato itself). I have to admit, it's not doing very well due to me overwatering them. By the way, the small plant up at the corner is a sweet basil a.k.a Selasih. I'm not kidding. go go buy selasih seeds and plant if you want sweet basil! A Pansy. I picked some seeds from the hotel in Taiping...unfortunately I can't seem to find the seed pods for the second generation now. The seed pods and the flower pods are exactly the same. Both of these didn't come from the compost so I guess it's off topic now. This is corn! Believe it or not? I found them germinating in the bin so I took out the cob and planted the whole thing in this pot. Eventually the results will go to the hamster. I was thinking of growing some veggies for all my hamsters in the future, since indirectly they contribute to it Like this coriander here. Experimenting companion planting. chili padi. Mom wants them so here they are. Need to wait 35 days for it to turn red Decendant of my grandpa's periwinkle. Lots of memories in it, so I took the little sprout back to KL...7 months later she's this huge. Actually, I think the plant is a he...got flower but no seed lol. Attached thumbnail(s) |

Urine is only disgusting if you drink it straight like that
Urine won't be urine anymore once it is broken down into nitrogen and minerals. All healthy veggies processes broken down nutrients from sources that make us puke. Remember the veggies you buy from the shop is most likely fertilized by cow/goat/chicken poo! Worse still, some use stabilized sludge. Look up yourself where sludge comes from I was thinking of growing my own hay. Not the grass kind. http://www.plantoftheweek.org/week043.shtml Humans eat this indirectly. They're used in authentic nyonya kuih. You know the blue rice thing? 100% original recepie uses these flowers. Usually you see them growing wild on fences. According to sources, the entire plant can be eaten though seeds should be avoided because they're strong laxatives they're used as feed for cows and goats in places where normal pasture grass have problems growing...so I was wondering if it's safe for hamsters too. Anyone can confirm this? |

Yeah, or so the gardening sites on the internet say.
In english it's Clitoria ternatea - Butterfly Pea http://www.regional.org.au/au/asa/2001/p/10/conway.htm http://www.terencelau.com/2007/05/butterfly-pea.html http://www.regional.org.au/au/asa/2006/con...9_braunackm.htm http://209.85.175.104/search?q=cache:GPVlU...clnk&cd=8&gl=my Maybe the guys in the rabbit corner can try this too. I think they should, as long no seeds are in it. http://www2.dpi.qld.gov.au/beef/3328.html P.S I think this is the tropical version of alfafa hay. P.S.S the yellow this is a chewtoy. wheat and gel mix shaped into a plate of bananas XD This post has been edited by Sophiera: Jul 28 2008, 07:53 PM |

You manage to sprout wheat? Slius all already pregerminated so chances of sprouting=nil
I'll let the corn grow fully, though will be mini corn due to pot size. Maybe will grow full grown too, won't know. What hamster food you're feeding the hams? Definately not slius, that I know. So how is my hamster? Any problems that I didn't detect? She looks kinda draby, I admit. Kind of hard to see her when lights are dim lol. I'm not sure how succesful it is but you can carefully chop off the top part of the corn while you eat the rest. Plant that one, and you should see a circle sprouting. You can pick it off one by one but they can break. You must make sure the kernels are intact. I've been feeding sweet basil to the ham and she's devouring it like a monster BC is what? Newspaper? Do they treat it or just pure paper? Paper very high in carbon with not much other nutrients, if want to use must put a lot of nitrogen rich things like poo, hay, urine, still-wet veggies, eggshells. I recommend you to look up on composting topics for more information. http://www.organicgardening.com/feature/0,...-21-112,00.html http://www.gardenguides.com/how-to/tipstec...ing/compost.asp http://www.plantea.com/compost-materials.htm Note these are for Hot composting. You need a space of 3X3 feet to succesfully do that, so mine is cold composting. Slower, more likely to get waterlogged and some bad stuff may survive...but more nutrient content. That's the upside of cold composting. P.S I am wondering if the hsay I am using for the bedding now is too old or not. It looks browny, but smells greeny.
