I just installed 4870 x 2 yesterday.. This morning i woke up, I realised that the display didn't want to startup. I am wondering what is the problem. My theory is that the GPU is too hot that it went pass the threshold. Because the fan is blowing like mad to cool down the card. In addition to that, after i switched on the aircond (thanx TNB), and the room cools down to about 20++ degrees, the machine startup fine. Any thoughts ppl?

My PSU is Cooler Master Real Power M1000... I would think 1000W is enuff to power the monster! It was working fine yesterday.. was getting 200FPS on fully souped up COD4 on 1920X1200 This post has been edited by mohamadfazli: Jul 3 2008, 11:22 AM

QUOTE(ben_panced @ Jul 3 2008, 11:24 AM) hurm that psu should be more than enough to power 2x4870, so the prob must be something else, btw did u tried to replicate the problem? i mean did u tried to boot ur pc while ur aircond is not running one more time? Well.. i gonna try later tonight, and see. But when i open the room door, and the room became warm... it stopped working again Added on July 3, 2008, 11:37 amam running.. QUOTE(jeromeccm @ Jul 3 2008, 11:37 AM) not necessary is gpu fail... gpu may produce a lot of heat but the cpu might fail due to the overheating and cause the systme to shutdonw... i think the GPU can sustain high temp near to 100C or maybe power supply overheated... you got to check those out..... Added on July 3, 2008, 11:39 amno wonder 200fps la... i think if i CF, my result will be the same... yesterday tried OC processor till 3.8G... phew..... GENG!!!! i reckon its about 100C and above.. because even on normal operation its running at about 80-90C... Actually, i uninstalled Asus Smart Doctor.. mebbe that coz problem... the fans not controlled properly..

QUOTE(jeromeccm @ Jul 3 2008, 12:04 PM) you got to monitor...... try not use any auto smat doctor or any softwar for the fan speed control.. full blast the fan if possible for proper cooling... if not cooled properly, something might burn.. my idle before i change the profile iss around 79C.. yours is kinda high... maybe your ventilation.. try open casing and run the system and see..... the temp should go down abit.. i suggest you change the fan speed of your Cards, let the fan blow out the hot air instead of retaining in your system.... just change the fan speed from 22 to 40-50.. you will see dramatic drop of temp of the card. That what i did.. i open my casing.. then it started to work (in addition to the aircond).. How do you change the profile?

QUOTE(jeromeccm @ Jul 3 2008, 12:15 PM) do refer to the previous posting... there are couple of people done it... i didt it.. duno how to explain.. ha ha... XP and vista is slightly different in file path.... check further... first... open CCC, then turn on the Overdrive (overclocking segment).. then go to profile, create one name and save it... then under the c: document files... bla bla... please refer back.. i forgot... edit the profile you saved and then change the value for the fan speed... default should be 22C. Ok lar.. will figure that part out later... when i get back home tonight... Now... mebbe i should download 3dMark 06

QUOTE(mohamadfazli @ Jul 3 2008, 12:34 PM) Ok lar.. will figure that part out later... when i get back home tonight... Now... mebbe i should download 3dMark 06 Well, now seems to be fixed. I did the following: 1) reattached some cables - to make sure that its not loose. It seems that when i just touch some of the group of cables, the card refuse to start - i.e. cable screwed up.. 2) installed asus smart doctor. It seems that now my GPU is monitored to have temparature of abt 45 celcius.. but damn noisy! So.. now it works.

QUOTE(ganaz-x @ Jul 8 2008, 03:07 PM) Nope...currently all cards are made by the same manufacturer. Same pcb...same BIOS...different decal considering whether i should wait for 4870x2 for crossfire... would love to play Crysis at 2560 at the highest quality
