With my case opened the card was idling at 80 - 81. Tried with case closed and now it's idling at 60 - 61.
Those two crappy 120mm fans are doing a fantastic job I guess rclxms.gif

I'm running a 4870 + 4850 setup. The result is just errrr....not worth showing here. I hope it's just a driver issue which can be fixed later hmm.gif

everything is running stock. using Corsair's TWIN2X2048-6400C5DHX 2gb kit. Not much different when benchmarking in Crysis and some scrores are lower than running single card unsure.gif

Probably u are right but that doesn't explain why some scores are lower than running single card in Crysis. Any other benchmarking tools that I can test the CF scaling?

QUOTE(LExus65 @ Jul 2 2008, 05:03 PM)
ganaz-x, i think it might be limited by ur CPU 5600+ at stock dun have enough omph i guess.......

SB600 is just lack of juice for OC, else it quite similar to sb700 rite?

coolice, u goin water cooling for ur 4850? nice, want to see how high can u go, i might do that too if this is good

Should be. It has a single rail +12VDC @ 60A. I ran 4870 + 4850 in CF mode without any problem.

more than enough actually rclxms.gif minimum watt 4 CFX is 650W i believe icon_idea.gif

Interestingly the guys at Legit Review only used the Corsair HX620W to test their HD4870 CF setup and it ran well. And I guess I'm not the only one who is getting lower scores on Crysis in CF mode compared to single card configuration.

Tried crysis benchmark on the beta 8.7. System spec below:

Sapphire HD4870 (single card)

MSI K9A2 Plat
PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750watt CF Edition

note: Couldn't be bothered to test CF with HD4850 as it will produce lower scores.

Correct me if I'm wrong, currently all cards are manufactured by ATI. Regardless what brand you buy, they're all the same except for the cooler's decal icon_rolleyes.gif

[quote=OmniAtlas,Jul 6 2008, 11:29 PM]any idea which brand has a good fan? I've hearing that the ASUS one is loud as hell and gets really hot.

Hm..what do you guys think of the Sapphire 4850? Is this on sale here yet? Any idea how much? It includes an HDMI output.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductRevie...N82E16814102747

I heard you need to use some special software to tweak the fan because it doesn't turn on? Would it be preferable to add a passive cooler? The previous card I was looking at was the XFX 8800 with the Zalman fan, and the card doesn't go higher then 58 degrees (and thats when its active).

Heard the sapphire goes up around ~80 degrees which is not so good because I have a small box for a computer.

Right now I own Sapphire's HD4870 and Gigabyte HD4850. Price wise I think Gecube is among the cheapest and Gigabyte the most expensive for the HD4850. If you can wait then soon u'll start seeing cards with different coolers, clock rate and amount of RAM. For example Asus is coming out with the 1gb as well as OCed version.

QUOTE(OmniAtlas @ Jul 7 2008, 01:05 AM)
Hm, so what 4850 card owners, what brand did you buy? are they all selling at the same price point?

The only advantage the sapphire has over the other cards is it has 7.1 surround sound over the HDMI -- do the other cards support this?

Dude, all HD4xxx has 7.1 audio via HDMI

I'd leave the audio job to the soundcard department. Let the HD4xxx do what its best at....producing stunning graphics rclxms.gif
