I see a lot of people adjusting the fan speed for 4850. Is it needed for the newer 4870?

nodude users are idiots...

go use th rbe and check
u find that its done in a way that will save energy etc

50c idle and 70c idle.. will not kill ure gpu..

so what amd did was to cool down the gpu rapidly whenever it passes a certain threshold..
the 4870's are 106C so should be the same for 4850..

its idea is to balance noise/heat dissipation/ power consumption
this is inline when powerplay is affective.
the current drivers dont support powerplay but u will see the difference
thats y for the hd4870 even the pwm has a profile for fan speed.
so when u use overdrive with powerplay ..
u will see the benefits..

use vantage extreme preset

as the total calculation is based on 95% gpu score and 5% on cpu
or try 3dmark06 1920x1200 8AA 16AF..

So it's ok to reach those temperature?
