I finally fitted my Zalman Vf900 on my hd4850:
I dropped my Low Yat to get additional RAMsinks. I took a couple of hours to get the fittings perfect but it was worth it. Now its idling at a cool 44c. I'm running it at about 80% fan speed for now, there's a nice hum to it, not too loud. I ran ATI overdrive and got 690MHz core, 1188MHz memory, with temps reaching a maximum of 57c.. I am one very happy owner! |

QUOTE(ben3003 @ Jun 29 2008, 06:10 PM) nice clock there. Sapphire card? Thanks. I'll probably tone down the memory speeds later, but the temperatures were so good I couldn't resist trying.Yup it's a Sapphire card. By the way this is the first time I'm using an ATi card. My previous cards were Geforce 4 Ti 4200, and the 8800GTS 640mb. But the 4850 is pretty awesome for the price! |

QUOTE(cstkl1 @ Jun 29 2008, 06:22 PM) Ppl who use hd4850 plus 3rd party cooler. Waste of money Maybe. But my power supply only has one PCIE power connector and I really don't want to change power supplies, so I had to stick with the 4850 and try to have some fun with it!might as well get hd4870 which is 20% faster + dual slot cooler which currently is running at 20-30 % fan speed once the new rbe is out u can flash ure bios at higher fan speed. |

QUOTE(Kyl3 @ Jun 29 2008, 06:36 PM) 4850 w/o the cooler? Hehe..just kidding.___________________________________________ Does the 4850 give you significant improvement over the 8800gts? Significant improvement? Apart from benchmarks, I can't really say. The 8800gts pretty much ran my games fine, and to be honest I could get along perfectly with that card now. But I got the upgrade bug, and I found a buyer for my old card, so one thing led to another... @Radeon: The vf900 costs RM 159 @ All IT |

Guys,
Here's a fix for the 4850 temperature issues. I found it at: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=265745 Copied from the page: ______________________________________________________ if you make a profile in catalyst after turning on Overdrive( make sure clock and memory settings are correct). You can then go to the file "C:\Users\Bretware\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\Bretware. XML. the xml file will have the same name as the catalyst profile you saved. right click and hit edit. <Feature name="FanSpeedAlgorithm_0"> <Property name="FanSpeedAlgorithm" value="Manual" /> </Feature> <Feature name="FanSpeedRPMTarget_0"> <Property name="Want" value="0" /> </Feature> <Feature name="FanSpeedPercentTarget_0"> <Property name="Want" value="65" /> Change the value to "manual" and Want value to "65" Save the file then reload your profile in catalyst. _________________________________________________________ The problem with the 4850 is that the stock fan is locked at like 22% or something. This mod seems to work for the guys on that thread. Looks good if you don't want to spend money on after market cooling mods. This post has been edited by Dracule: Jun 29 2008, 07:14 PM |

QUOTE(samlee860407 @ Jun 29 2008, 08:00 PM) xchoit, you need to go to your CCC and save your profile 1st Awesome.then you need to set your setting to be able to view hidden files, then you will find it I just try to set the fan speed, but the fan speed is so noisy now @@ now my 4850 idle is at 54degree PS: the temperature seems still going down , as i just do it 2minute ago How's the noise like at 54 degrees? |

QUOTE(ben_panced @ Jun 29 2008, 08:18 PM) 3rd party Coolers are great if you know what you're doing and have the money to spare. But hacking the hardware invalidates the warranty, and if you're not careful you could mess things up doing the installation. BTW, I installed a 3rd party cooler But the guru3d mod is perfect for those reluctant to mess with things. Oh it saves money too. |

QUOTE(ben_panced @ Jun 29 2008, 08:30 PM) eh no la, installing 3rd party coolers doesnt void ur warranty, but yeah, the fan speed mod is invaluable to people who are on a tight budget, people who cant afford 3rd party coolers.. It doesn't void the warranty? That's good to know, especially for me.not everyone can spend rm160 after breaking their bank to buy a 600+ video card u know I really didn't want to spend extra on the 3rd party cooler, but then I remembered that I just paid half price for the hd 4850 after selling my old card, so I thought what the hell man, live a little. |
