QUOTE(jactval @ Jun 28 2008, 01:13 PM)
I am in dilemma now. Previously I visited to Sunway and I been told that for those who fail in CAT cannot proceed to ACCA Part 2(Well, all of us aware of this rule). But problem occured as Sunway required its CAT students to take T8 which is an audit paper instead of the one I had studied that is T10 Financial Management. ACCA students always claimed that audit is the toughest paper. I worry if I really fail(touch wood!), my 30% ACCA tuition fees have to be forfeited and the rest defer to next semester. Money is not a big matter since it is not a big amount. But how about I fail this time, and I do the audit paper(is compulsory to all malaysian students, this is the rule set by Sunway) then I fail again? This will definitely diminishing my confidence and determination to further anymore. As this is the case I saw many times, many students suffer from this before.

My next option would be to study at Singapore since I'll be seeking my career in the later days at Singapore. But the application of student pass is troublesome and it takes time. Furthermore the course commenced on July. I'm think of whether I should really take a break for half year or find a half year job at Singapore perhaps?

Any suggestion from you guys?

don't worry too much.
t8 seems to be the toughest paper in CAT. However, Sunway has a very good passing rate of T8. 80%++..

Thank you for telling me so. They told me for Malaysian students, it is compulsory to take T8, while T10 only if you're China students.
*
in sunway, its not compulsory to do t8.(it only seems to be like tat). when you register for exam, you can take up t10.
sunway has no control over which ppr ur taking. i assume, there are only 2 intentions for them to encourage ppl to tk t8 :
1. as there are few colleges doing t8, the chances of getting prize ( 100%) will be from sunway.
2. to provide a good foundation for students, prepare them for advanced level as the knowledge for this ppr is almost the same wf f8. (60-70 % same)

QUOTE(Michi @ Jun 27 2008, 04:59 PM)
ive just registered at sunway this morning....
im doing part time n taking P1 and P3 in this semester...

since most of P2 classes will be on Thursday
and im planning to work at the same time.... so i dun want to rush from work to attend the class....
so i didnt register for this paper...
What do you guys think? is it wise?
if i didnt take P2 now... can i take all 3 papers (P2 and the other 2 elective papers) in next semester ( for June exam)

and i noticed the classes for P2 will be on Thurs n Sat...
is this paper tough?? coz two days of classes?
P1 and P3 both on Sun....

Btw anybody taking P1 n P3 part time?
Im still blur2...
The admission said i should come on 5July for orientation..
but Financial Course Division said that i dun haf to attend that one... since my class will start on Sun (6jul)

What do u haf n do during the orientation?

Btw, they said i can dl the timetable at sunway.edu.my
mine is ACCA-EM-PT right??  and how to know where is the venue for the class ya?
tried to call the office.. but no answer...
scared i dl the wrong TimeTable >_<

hope someone can help
thanks alot^^
*
when you have your 1st lesson, you may proceed to the TES office there...
just outside the office, there is a notice board. normally the venues wil be stated there.

mine is ACCA-EM-PT right?? ...yaya..you are correct...

The admission said i should come on 5July for orientation....i think you dont need to go for the orientation as you are a part time student, and there is nothing in the orientation that benefits you, except getting to know few full time friends. normally, in the orientation, sunway will be giving brief introduction about their facilities, staff, lecturers, some rules, etc.

Pls do not argue on something which you all have no common ground.

As there is no correct answer, it all depends on your own argument.

sunway's p2 passing rate = 71%...many students scored above 60...
zzz...where did u hear that rumour from??
zzz...not reliable source..

coz menon berjaya so spot IFRS 3® which came out as a full question in last sitting.

where as other colleges did not emphasize on this revised standard.

platinum status still in place...and i think sunway will produce quite a lot of prize winners this round.

QUOTE(varin @ Mar 4 2009, 08:36 AM)
Why does the number grow so slowly. There was so much hype when everyone heard Dr Choong is teaching. Everyone rushed to register. Expectation was high. When class started, nothing much. He used his seminar notes to teach. Then jump to text book. Very practical ,very good for knowledge, very fast, very entertaining, very good for brain exercise. But for exam don no lei.Is he teaching P6 syllabus? I suspect he didn't prepare for the P6 syllabus. Just use his old seminar notes. So he covers himself by convincing students that they can pass if they study the topics that he taught. He thinks students don no how to refer to syllabus, past year questions and their seniors to check if he is teaching the P6 syllabus. Of course some naive ones will believe him and idolise him and will fail.He talk as if he sets the exam questions. He said examiner told him single tier will come out again cos examiner told him students did not do well in this topic last semester, so he will set again this sitting. Is the acca examiner so unprofessional to give tips to him? Ironically the examiner's report said this topic was well done. So contradicting. But he is giving the students a big treat to win the heart and stomach of the students. Good trial man. This is one correct thing that he does. But he shud give an honest job of preparing for P6. Teach P6 topics and do P6 past year questions la. We students wan all these, not listen to his crap stories on how successful he is. U think the resiting students are stupid and will sign up for someone like this. Only the new students like us at the beginning of the semester got cheated and the news spread to stop others being cheated. Enroll if u don want to pass but wan to get practical knowledge only.

Next Dr Choong will leave soon. Mr Teo will try out Dr Choong's assistant and guinea pig on the students. The students are at the mercy of Mr Teo's experiment. Why are all these done at the expense of the students? So unfair, so unfair. We need to pass and earn money to help out our family at this hard time. Pls be more humane.

zzzz...i personally think that ckf's way of teaching is definitely correct...
yes, i agree most sunway students would definitely do not like his teaching style...
coz hes not spoon feeding...
he is teaching us HOW TO FISH....
d students are used to long notes in sunway...i myself was not used to KSA's style at 1st as i was used to sunway's style of learning...
however as time passes, i think KSA is good...

im currently attending his p6...
CAT til ACCA level 2 from sunway..
core pprs in KSA...
now back to sunway for optionals...n working...

application is what that matters in real life...even if u pass ur exam, but doesnt know how 2 apply, what for??
CKF is teaching his tax planning methods which he sells to clients...
n we are getting it for RM1450 in 6 classes...whereas ppl paying RM1000+ just for one day...

he already stresses that we need to do own reading....whereas he will focus on tax planning...
theory we can learn ourselves...tax planning?? haha...from lecturers' experience...

i duno whether he focuses on d right topic or not...nobody will know until the very exam day...
what if he spotted correctly? then u need to take back ur words...
he may spot d wrong area too...

getting CKF to teach doesnt gurantee a pass....
d most important thing is still our attitude...
instead of wasting time commenting d way he teaches, we should all focus on our studies..

just my 2 cents...no hard feeling to anyone...
help each other to pass,...just as what CKF stresses...we all are acca students, lets finish optionals n graduate..
anyting u feel dissatisfied towards CKF, tell him honestly...
i believe CKF would not mind...
he will do this best to help u pass the paper...

dun comment behind him...as i believe this is unfair to both d students n lecturer...
i went to study under quite a number of good lecturers b4, such as Mr. Low Chin Ann, Dr. Parmindar, Mr. Joe Fang, Ms. Menon, Mr. Andrew Pang....they are not perfect too..having pros and cons...

most importantly, we need to cover the lecturers; weakness...and build on their strengths...
in this case, Dr Ckf is good at tax planning, thus we should be exercising our brains to be like him...
this is what being taught by him now...
use our brains...no matter how d questions twists, we could think of something to write...
this is P level...there is no more correct or wrong answer...
it all depends on how we argue...(quoted from Dr. Parmindar)...

sorry...again just my 2 cents..really no hard feeling, brudder....

GOD BLESS U...gambateh n lets graduate 2geta...

Will send ur comment to him,let him see still got students support him..hehe..
One thing your are right, he likes to listen to what ppl's comment on him,no matter good or bad.. tongue.gif
*
haha...yeah..will probably venture into tax for at least 1 year..after collecting sufficient business knowledge tru audit...
a good lecturer doesnt read from the textbook oo...
but try to trigger d students' minds to think for themselves...
yeah...feel so exhausted in class...coz keep on using brain to think...
but d thinking skill is so useful is working life...
im loving it...(quoted from McD)... notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

QUOTE(Jactiego @ Mar 8 2009, 09:32 PM)
anyone may suggest me the way of preparing F8 ?
*
its quite hard from now onwards....
coz alan lewin is no longer the examiner...
there is another new examiner..
thus, d questions style and answering technique might be different from alan lewin...

based on my experience in f8...
u could tackle some areas 1st...
1. tackle d finalisation of audit (topics such as management letter, representation letter, post reporting audit, audit reports, adjusting and non adjusting events, etc.)
2. tackle audit procedures (those balance sheet audit and income statement audit)
3. ethics (fundamental principles, code of ethics)
4. other areas (financial statements review and audit, audit planning, working papers, fraud and errors, quality control, analytical procedures, audit assertions, audit documentation, etc)

spend some time on reading d above to get a big picture of audit...
then start doing past year....no need to memorise examiners' answers..
use correct terms and develop own method to answer the questions...
if u have a good command of audit assertions, then elaborating ur audit procedures will not be a problem...

i would think that a good command of audit assertions would normally help u pass the exam easily..and even score..
follow chin ann's way of tackling audit procedures questions...
easy audit procedures such as I will agree the date, amount and nature of transactions from GL to supporting documents to ensure accuracy of posting would earn u marks...dun neglect those easy marks...

u just have to be careful that you must complete ur audit procedure...dun let it hang in d air...
must write "audit procedure + assertion"...

just my 2 cents...disclaimer.. icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi, everyone

I'm quite new in KL, can u all help me? I want to do my Financial Reporting (Int) part time os I'm working, can u all recommend me any college with good lecture in this paper. I want to pass my paper a.s.a.p cos I already delayed my exam.

Pls help  cry.gif  Maybe if possible , u all can tell the cost for the class too? Thanks a lots

Thanks smile.gif
*
ms menon in sunway?? p2 or f7??
rm 1430 per paper...

i was under ms menon for f7(int)..and under mr joe fang(KSA) for p2 (int)...
mr joe fang's class costs about 800-900...

ms menon would cover almost everything for financial reporting...sometimes more than what exam requires...
12 hours a week...tiring...

mr joe fang has his own consolidation method..but he seldom focuses on teaching theory..so u may need to read up the accounting standards yourself...but his method in tackling section B (p2) is really good...thus u dun have to worry for section B...coz once ur familliar with his method, tackling question 3 and 4 would not be a problem....but u have to cover the knowledge on accounting standards urself...his way of doing consolidation is unique and fast, thus u must familiarise yourself with the method...and show your WORKINGS clearly...

there are other lecturers teaching financial reporting...mr haneef (McO), Mr Yap (kolej bandar), mr keith (KSA)...i did not study under them..thus, no comments..haha:p..

i have a question.

can i take exams the 'P' papers if I haven't completed my 'F' papers?take together like example F6, P2,P3 like that. can or not?
*
if f6 is the only paper u left in fundamental level...
then its ok for u to take f6 with "p" papers...

if u have not completed f9...then u must take f9 together with f6 and p2 and p3....
in short, u must attempt all ur "f" papers...and/ before proceeding with "p" papers... brows.gif brows.gif

Hey there, we should take international variant for P2 is it?

I will be taking P2 this coming June, anything that i should be aware of?
*
you could either take MYS or INT...
not much difference..difference lies between d names FRS and IAS...

hehe...p2...write write write and continue to write eventhough not sure of the answer...
must write relevant things la..according to standards one...
dun spend too much time on question 1 until u dun have time for section B...
must allocate time properly..finish all ques...then should be alright..

halo guys,

anyone knows the following lecturers providing p6 revision classes??
please do state which lecturer and the revision timetable...

1. Mr. Chow Chee Yen
2. Alan Yeoh
3. Low Chin Ann
4. Sunway lecturer (who is going to conduct the IRC? has the confusion solved?)

thank you thank you....

P/S: one more thing, please do not argue on choosing which lecturers anymore...nobody is wrong or correct...an there will be no final answer...
some people can only start to revise under great pressure (then sunway kiasu peer maybe a great motivation/ driving force for them). Some could adapt to lecturers in KSA, McO, FTMS, etc. Different people with different learning styles would prefer different teaching styles. So when recommending lecturers, please do state how d lecturers would be conducting the class. whether the colleges/ lecturers famous or not,its not the upmost important...passing rates not so important..unless u have the same quality of students studying under different quality of lecturers, if not, there is no constant element for comparison.

IN GENERAL, For e.g., sunway could attract more high achievers in SPM than others coz they are famous, class, accomodation provider (could attract outstations students & international students), thus training these bunch of students would not be tough as the students themselves already had good foundation (knowing the way to achieve high score, pushing themselves to the limits). However, this does not mean sunway lecturers are not good. Good, better, best and bestest are subjective. As fair comparison could not be carried out, it is better to recommend lecturers based on learning style, and not passing rate.

i like the example given by Topace on the Tomyam noodle SR...that could best describe the argument going on in the thread.

am i qualified to comment? haha, i think so, been to sunway, KSA and Kolej bandar. ALL got PROS and CONS...

just my RM0.02...no hard feelings...
