I'm planning to buy a PC Speaker System, don't know much about surround systems, so have few questions.

I'm gonna use it on my: TV, PS3, Notebook (headphone jack) and future PC.

1.If I buy a 5.1 or 7.1 or more speaker sets, will I be able to use all the speakers on the above 4 equipment mentioned? Will I get the surround effects (I'm guessing no for Laptops)?

2.Are there PC models (Logitech, Creative & Altec Lansing) that accept both Red/White & OPTICAL inputs?

3.I know 5.1 is quite common, but how is the compatibility of 7.1 speakers?

I'm looking for a mid-range speaker, around RM450 or below, any good recommendations?

I think you would be able to get good answers if you ask from the Audiophiles section biggrin.gif

i realise in order to get true surround sound you will need a decoder to decode the digital inputs from Optical cables.

But my question is the decoder directly connect to the speakers? Do most decoder allow me to choose whether it's a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker setup?

Also if i want to use an amp, whether digital or tube amp, how do i connect the decoder to the amp?

Well. just bought either logitech z5500/5400/5450/680 (5.1 sets). They fulfilled your requirements. I have z680 and it has 2 3.5mm inputs, 1 coaxial,1 optical and 6 channel direct and it kicks *** too. I think it also has some kind of matrix mode that makes normal 2.1 source sounds like 5.1.

I agreed with jie20022002, i own a z680 and it rocks... kekeke... using coaxial would be the best and since you are a gamer (PS3), this would be your best choice. Personal experience, don't go for any creative product cuz for the same price or lower, you can get a good logitech unit...
