QUOTE(bose00 @ Jan 9 2009, 03:05 PM) btw i heard there is new model for Velodyne Impact 10 & Impact 12 , is that true ? impact10 quoted rm1300 , good buy ? Yep, Velodyne launched the new Impact series (last September, I think). Came to Malaysia around October / November. Owned the Impact-12 for just under two months but was not really happy with its performance esp. with music. Upgraded a couple of weeks ago to the CHT-12Q and was very pleased with the improvement. If you are on a budget and mostly watch movies then the Impacts should fit the bill. But if you can spend a bit more then i'd say go for the CHT-R or -Q series. They perform markedly better than the Impacts. The Impact series is after all Velodyne's entry-level subs.

QUOTE(gtafan @ Jan 19 2009, 09:05 AM) hi guys, i juz got my 12R~ any basic calibration i nid to do on my 12R to achieve optimum performance? im using audioquest sub A cable atm. any difference will it make if i switch to Y-cable ? thanks guys Using a Y-cable into both the L & R line-level inputs on your sub should give you an approx. +2dB gain in output from your sub (this is what i noticed in my case, when i went from a single el-cheapo RCA cable to a Monster subwoofer cable with a Y-adapter). I also found that the sub's sound then appeared to become a little more 'boomy' (maybe it's just my imagination). What i always do whenever i change my setup is to re-run Audyssey calibration (after performing the usual steps to calibrate my subwoofer prior to running Audyssey). Please see this link - Audyssey Setup Guide.

QUOTE(gtafan @ Jan 19 2009, 11:37 AM) bro, my amp doesnt have the Audyssey feature..any work around on this ? Oops sorry, my bad! Actually there are tons of information / advice on the Web on how to calibrate subwoofers. If i'm not mistaken, htkaki posted a link to a pretty good one several posts back in this thread (i think he linked to the Audioholics site which has lots of very good informative articles on speaker setup, placement, subwoofer calibration, etc. - Get Good Bass. You should also check this site out - A Guide to Subwoofers - Part 1 and A Guide to Subwoofers - Part 2.

QUOTE(slicardo @ Jan 19 2009, 04:17 PM) I am presently using a Harman Kardon AV 245 receiver. I am thinking of installing 2 subs, but this receiver has only 1 sub out. How do I go about it? Is it wise to just have a y out or to buy the sub which has a sub out? Any suggestion? There shouldn't be any problem hooking both subs out using a Y-cable. see this recent thread in AVS Forums - AVS Forum thread. But check out also this article which provides a multiple subwoofer setup guide - Multiple subwoofer setup guide. Hope this helps... Added on January 19, 2009, 5:13 pmQUOTE(swine @ Jan 19 2009, 03:46 PM) monster sub cable good? how bout audioquest or qed? Well, the reason i got myself a Monster cable was because i wasnt really happy with the quality (not so much quantity) of the bass i was getting at the time from my old Velodyne Impact-12 and thought upgrading to better quality (better shielding, etc.) cable might help with this. In my case, i went out to HN Pavilion (which is near my office) and Monster was all they had in stock. To my ears, it did make a noticeable difference but since i havent compared with QED or Audioquest i can't actually say which is better. I happen to hv the QED Silver Reference SW cable (bought from Futureshop UK recently) and am planning to try it out over the long CNY weekend. N.B. - I hv since upgrade my sub to the CHT-12Q so this is what i will be comparing the two cables with. This post has been edited by augustinesoh: Jan 19 2009, 05:13 PM

QUOTE(gtafan @ Jan 19 2009, 10:41 PM) bro, where can i find Y-cable? prefer to order online coz cheaper.. try to find in futureshop but they only sell 0.5 meter ones.. -.- I believe this is what you ar elooking for (copied from Blue Jeans Cables website at http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/subwoofer/index.htm) - "Y-adapters: Some subwoofers function best with the signal fed not to one, but two, inputs--if you're in doubt about whether to feed signal to one or to two inputs, consult the manual for your subwoofer. We offer two different adapters to split the signal from a single output to more than one sub input; the most often-used type is our short Y cable, with one female end and two male ends, made for us by AVLink. This is a well-built, braid-and-foil shielded cable, about one foot long, and sells for $15.00. Alternatively, we also carry a small plastic hardshell adapter with one male and two female connections; this is useful if you're daisy-chaining subs together or jumpering from one sub input to another, but necessitates using another cable to make the jumper connection, and is $2.50." What you want is to buy two separate (identical) subwoofer cables of the same length and one of these small Y-adapters (with one male and two female connectors). The male connector on the Y-adapter goes into your receiver's sub-out and you connect the two subwoofer cables to each of the female connectors on the Y-adapter. The other ends of those two cables of course go into each of your two subs. This post has been edited by augustinesoh: Jan 20 2009, 09:38 AM

[quote=yed,Jan 20 2009, 11:10 AM] is it this ?
That'll work. Just google "subwoofer y adapter" and you should be presented with more links than you can shake your fist at.

QUOTE(zerorulez @ Feb 10 2009, 07:41 PM) Went to A&L for CHT-10Q audition.... pening already The salesman suggest the cheaper one Impact 10/12 ..good or nor good? As someone who's owned both an Impact-12 and CHT-12Q, I would say that the Q-series is a definite step-up from the Impacts. I had the Impact-12 for just over 2 months but didn't like the way it sounded with my music so I upgraded to the 12Q and there is a noticeable improvement in the quality and definition (tightness) of the bass. So, if it's within budget my advice would be to go for the 10Q over the Impact-10 or 12.
