Thanks to the bad weather, I've been staying indoors for the pass week. Got bored and decided to build a cheapo light box and play around with it.

Thank you I don't have any flash units yet so have to use this poor man's setup.


Thanks for the suggestion! Actually most people use two light sources shining in from both sides. I only had one so I just put it on top of the box, that's why the shadow at the bottom of the subject quite harsh.

Thank you Haha. Very easy to make only the box. Like me I simply cut and all my lines crooked also take about 20 minutes only. I think if use 2 light sources the shadow should be nicer. But I very kedekut don't feel like spending on a lamp

Yes, it is the only light source that I have. I turn my ceiling lights off and close the room door as well when I'm shooting. The only light source in the entire room is that fluorescent tube on the box. It was enough to light up the front of the watch


Actually some people stick white paper in the interior of the whole box. The idea is to have light bouncing everywhere.

Not too happy with the shots cause the background is underexposed (not completely white). If I try to make the background white, the cars will overexpose I think the cars are just too reflective... not too sure lah.

Actually, I did use flash for the car photos. Can check from the EXIF data. But for photos 1 to 4, I didn't use a flash. I don't have a speedlight either so I used my built-in flash. Set it to -4/3 EV and I thought it was just nice as it covered quite a lot of the shadows in front of the car. The flash also seemed to "bring out" the reflection on the glass better - brighter and clearer. Maybe your can try that too?

Very nice! I've tried using the transparent plastic sheets before but I didn't like them cause I just can't get it to be entirely flat. Hence when I shoot from a low angle, the reflection is rather distorted. Like your photo no. 6, the word Hydra on the reflection is also a bit distorted.

The papers you can just get from any bookstore, stationary shop or supermarket. As for the lights, actually can just use any lights - fluorescent tube, giant torch light, external flash (like garyeow's setup) - are all possible I believe. My fluorescent tube I think my dad mod it liao. It has the 3 pins plug which I just plug into the socket for electricity.

Like I said not necessarily must be fluorescent lamps
