I dunno about now but previously Sony was selling the PS3 at a loss to keep the retail price down. If Sony were to sell the PS3 at a profit I'm sure the retail price would be much higher.

Blu-ray is still a new technology and new stuff is always selling at a premium price. But the prices are falling down though. Early last year a BD player over here cost around RM3-4k. Now many are going for under RM2000 and some models are as low as RM1200.

I will get a Samsung BD-P1600 BD player next week. Thinking of selling ir for RM1000 if anybody's interested

As for BD drives for PC, they're available but I haven't been keeping up to date with their prices. You can find them at Loywat and I believe some forumers are selling them as well.
