How do you guys block P2P smile.gif

IMO, there no way to block P2P. The closest way to do it, to authenticate your user via freeradius and enforce bandwidth limiting.

Ah chong was given only 56.6k to access the internet thru LAN or WIFI, and he must authenticate first via radius server. AH Chong started his bittorent and after few hours his torrent still not finish downloading. He wonder why ? The wifi operator already enforce bandwidth limited to Ah Chong and he can play WoW with free mind.

I have 4 Linksys WRT 54GL at home

2 GL1.1 with DDWRT v23
2 GL 1.1 with Coova AP

Problem is, I can't authenticate my hotspot user over external radius using CoovaAP. So maybe I'll try V24 a try using the CHillispot Hotspot option

anyone tried the repeater function of v24sp2 ?

which one better ?

wds vs repeater ?

WDS
========
halved the bandwidth each hop
mac address authentication

Repeater
========
repeat the host by SSID, if somebody simply use the same ssid, thier signal also get aplified
halved the bandwidth
much easier to deploy, just repeat any open signal

Good question Bazet

I personally prefer WDS mode :-)

but repeater mode is so damn easy to setup....it is just no protection of ssid..if my competitor know i'm using repeater mode, hes just use the same ssid..and his signal also get amplified.

i am connected to net uisng repeater mode at the moment.......

okay about the repeater

HOST AP is using 'HOTSPOT' ssid, and my repeater will repeat 'HOTSPOT'

what if my competitor put 'HOTSPOT' ssid nearer to my repeater AP ? Will my repeater repeat 'HOTSPOT' belongs to my competitor ?

I'll always use WDS, since in repeater mode , I can't track each AP ip address. SNMP graph is important and integration to Cacti or Nagios

Currently I have 2 Linksys 54GL flashed to Coova AP / Open WRT because i need the Chillispot server and authenticate on external radius server.

thanks MX510

I'm using ChilliSpot / Coova AP because they support some special radius attribute like WISPr-Max-Up ( to limit upload/download speed in kbps ) so that I can limit each user upload and download speed.

For Pfsense Captive Portal box, I'm yet to test whether they support the attribute or not...

I like DD-WRT ......well I need another linksys 54gl just to test the Hotspot feature
