QUOTE(azarimy @ Jun 20 2008, 05:24 PM) i urge everyone NOT to use torrent or any other stuff that hogs the network. this is a university, researchers and lecturers use the same network for research and academic stuff. back in 1999 i was one of the student leaders to push for free internet for every student, and they eventually agreed. before 1999, internets are only accessible from computer labs - no personal computers, LAN, wireless (ofcourse ler) or private lines. so today u have the facility to access the internet remotely and within the privacy of ur own computers. dont hog the network. if u want to torrent or what not, get ur own streamyx line to ur room! yes, it's crappy. I hate it when I can't even access many sites that I need to do work because of some dipshit using Youtube to stream videos. Ironically the staff line is also the slowest that they allocated (they have 4 lines) and the free Wireless was the fastest, and unblocked. I use MSN to contact my coworkers as our office are far apart and uses different DHCP (no LAN TALK) so I feel peeved as I use it to do work. But that does not stop staffs from misusing the lines. Heck today I have to go put a wireless dongle for a lecturer just because he cannot access his favourite forum using the dedicated LAN connection. :<

QUOTE(fanco @ Jun 20 2008, 08:19 AM) just use kproxy lor for the last 3...now im working part time in utm kl until 25 june.....which department do u work??? why do I think I know you? I either - Take care of the Linux Lab 1 (student cuti, now I only go there to upgrade OS/sleep) - Unit Selenggara Komputer under Yang Mulia Raja Aida ^^ Okay, 2nd part I would like to tell about your personal belonging. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES LEAVE THEM ON YOUR DESK. We have numerous cases of ppl putting stuff on teh desk, fell asleep and woke up finding it's missing. Also if you are a muslim, please bring it with you during friday prayers. Stupid thieves are rampant during this time. Heck, one of my friend lost his PC when he was SLEEPING IN HIS OWN ROOM WITH THE DOOR LOCKED. Somehow it's an inside job, but we are not ones that easily accuse our friends. So be careful. Not all ppl are sincere

QUOTE(azarimy @ Jun 24 2008, 04:56 PM) err... UTM KL is for diploma only, and UTM skudai is for degree only. they can b**** all they want, bcoz if u're a diploma, there's no way u get to study in skudai LOL. No, I mean the ones that have graduated from diploma and got 3.5 pointers above. Seems that this year UTM Skudai prefer to take matric students than the diploma ones.

Different intake yes, but still many feel they are being put aside. Even lecturers at KL was not impressed with the lack of UTM KL intake this year on other note, if you're coming down to KL, gimme a PM lol

QUOTE(azarimy @ Jun 24 2008, 10:22 PM) i've discussed this with my superiors before. the issue is simple: not enough places. UTM diploma are competing with other diploma holders as well for a very limited number of places. usually the diploma intake is about 15-20% of the 1st year degree intake from the year before. if a course takes 100 1st year students per year, then diploma intake is usually about 10-15 students only. the diploma students are not competing with anyone but themselves (other diploma holders included). UTM KL now is managed differently from skudai. it's not a feeder school anymore as before. unlike UiTM diploma schools, which are feeder courses into their degree programmes. feeder means students will be able to continue to degree if they fulfill the requirements, and places are guaranteed, just like international twinning programmes. UTM KL is not ;). Oh well, the b****ing started when the dean list students failed to get in. That's why we are stunned actually. One student was a constant 3.8 but was rejected. We were quite stunned actually to hear that. But well let us not divert this thread further. This thread was to help the newbies anyways :D

QUOTE(azarimy @ Jun 25 2008, 05:10 PM) UTM do control the prices. the ceiling price is usually set at a certain price. so it depends on each vendor to put up lowest price in order to compete with each other. people will try to avoid those that are expensive. why is each college have different prices? some far away college are only reachable by vehicles, so not many will travel there for lunch in between classes. so they have to bring down their prices to attract more people. my colleagues and i used to travel from college to college trying to find the best price for the best dish. we avoid places with too many people around, so we dont frequent CP (centerpoint), SUB (student union building) and arked meranti. waaay too many people there at lunch time . Outsiders from Telekom and nearby Felda eat lunch at our cafe because it's a lot cheaper than anywhere else lol.
