RATING

Pros
Excellent in overclocking rclxms.gif
Ram Bandwidth is currently no.1 for p45's rclxms.gif (My comparison with p5q Deluxe and Gigabyte EP45dq6)
Excellent Bios rclxms.gif
Excellent Manual rclxms.gif
Cheap

Cons
No other features on this board aka powersaving etc. shakehead.gif
Sometimes Corrupts my HDD shakehead.gif
Crossfire performance is unstable

4/5 thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

since its a overclocking board

This board i recommend for any intel proc with single card. Dual gpu seems to be too much for this board

*5/5 rating it needs to be perfect on everything... so will asus maximus 2 formula take this rating... stay tune

Overclocking Aim

dunno dude the p5q deluxe i had was a early demo unit

the new boards seems much better...

hard to say..

but the biostar easier to clock.. and very user friendly
and its not so picky about the rams as the p5q deluxe

up to 500fsb performance level.. biostar beats the asus moobo...

that is for sure..

heatsink quality.. the biostar is full copper all the way.. not plated etc like the asus..

depending on voltage

low voltages less than 1.2v droop around 0.008-0.010v
medium voltage 1.3-1.4 around 0.015-0.025
high voltage 1.4++ around 0.04-0.07v

all measure with vmm

but i would say its very good..

i hated load line it always had issue on idle
best way to test load line is actually occt.. many times it bsod/restart during the last four minutes when it when to monitoring mode in idle..

thats y i am a anti loadline person..kekeke

posting soon some 1200CL5 tRD8 5:6 stable bandwidth awesomeness..

** raymond - please use photobucket ... doesnt lag like imageshack for streamyx..

everytime to see ure post i have to switch to a vpn server..

Sorry for being a little off-topic, don't know where else to ask. Is OCCT reliable as a stability testing tool?

I don't know after OCing OCCT shows error after running for 14 minutes. I've done Prime95 for 7 hours and it does not has any errors. Then i ran OCCT again without changing any OC parameters.

And it claim stable this time (Auto-1hour). OCCT reliable?

prime doesnt doest test the caches hard enough..

prime/orthos is only good for proc stability

occt is better for proc/nb/vtt and mem stability
also run memtest86... but becarefully with memtest and wdmt..
as it stress ure rams and heat up ..

dont advice any ballistix to be used this way

i always used p95 and occt for stability test.

and yes, memtest really heats up the ram quit badly.

will post 533x8 stable tongue.gif and 566x7.5

for this lowest is trd 10 pull to trd 9 for 1066 CL5...

need to use another GC.. as GC going haywire.. its a saphire x1050 that shares the mem.... just need to double confirm.. that its just the card issue with the high fsb

finally figured out this mobo rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif
3 days to tame it.. not bad eh.... just shows how easy and well made the bios is

dfi x48 3 weeks
maximus from early bios till rampage took like 1 month
dfi UT p35.. 2 weeks.

this board looks promising.. esp for quad core..

i think the trend is the same..

last time = high fsb : 965, full features : 975..

this time = p45 vs x48...

***56k Warning ***

review was done with handpicked very rare and eoled D9GMH's
hence y i posted not just 2x1gb but clocking on all 4x1gb to show the boards and ram powah..
dont expect crappy rams and crappy ballistix to do this easily...

with all this high fsb ure going to need good rams..

delay noticed
600fsb and 566fsb coming up soon as soon as i solve the gpu issue.
i can post the stable occt but its fake cause actually the gpu is going haywire..

***56k Warning***

oh yeah new bios
newbie hands off warning
as this board for ram settings has no auto..
with the new bios u get extra settings.. which will make matters worse for u and ure rams..

well without the sub timings i couldn't have gotten the 533fsb stable...
566/600fsb close to stable.. gpu issue again..

the other option the fsb fine tune doesnt apply.. tested it/retested it etc
so i think its meant for the 8800gt/8800gtx issue as it was stated..

the gpu issue...
dunno whether u get that or not..
i am running dual monitor on my awesome saphire X1050 ( Awesome DoTa performance... tongue.gif) usually one monitor will go crazy...

oh yeah also
the newbios made me understand

the big difference of the p45's and other p35/x48/x38
have u noticed even when the latencies are higher/ higher tRD
the performance can come close to a lower tRD value for read/copy/write.... here is where the subtimings magic happens..

i dont understand... i found an earlier bios dated 0620 on biostar's website and flashed it last night. i could make changes to the voltages and they would stick for everything but the CPU, it would stay at 1.18 v no matter what. if i use the 0710 bios on their site right now none of the voltage changes work. am i doing something wrong? have no problems changing voltages with the factory bios (may 30th date maybe?)

i'm trying to overclock an e8400 that i bought from a guy who swears it will go over 4ghz on air cooling but i can't even get it stable at 3.6 and i have run a gajillion memtest's and the ram seems to be handling the settings i have really well so i'm about positive it's either the mobo or the cpu. the board does show my 12v rail as 11.88 but it's wrong because i checked it with a voltmeter while it was playing crysis and it's putting out no less than 12.28. if it's reading getting seeing etc the voltages wrong couldn't that cause my overclocking problems?

nevermind - i am ashamed to admit what the problem was. it was an ID 10 T error. seems i thought i had a Tpower I45 but in reality I ordered the wrong thing and got a TP45 HP 5.x board. guess they must be pretty close for the bios to actually flash and boot the thing and probably lucky that not being able to change the voltage was the only problem i ran into. hell they actually look a lot alike but still that is an unbelievably stupid error on my part.

i could flash it using the flasher utility accessed from F12 but i wondered why it was every version i tried from the windows flasher reported incorrect rom id

Guys, I just got this board and started overclocking my Q6600. I'm using the manual overclocking from the BIOS. Do I leave all settings to auto?

I'm attaching the screenshot from Tpower utility.

Can anyone confirm whether the nb and fsb voltage is ok since it is set to auto? Btw, what are the defaults?

My cpu currently running 3.2Ghz (400x8). Anyone currently running this speed?

hey guys.

just got this board + q6600. new owner reporting in.
noob here +_+ first time intel.

i'm currently facing a problem with this board. everytime i change any settings on the O.N.E menu in bios,
after save and restart i'll sure see the d4 post code. Then have to reset bios twice for things to work again.
maybe i'm overly noob? any sifu can advice me here? cry.gif

i up fsb +1 also mobo will go E1 or D4 on me.... no more boot icon_question.gif

currently on latest bios ver.

well, if u didn change the setting of "vcore", the default is "Auto"
which mean u increase the fsb, it will increase the vcore itself.

normally the measuring diode is located near cpu socket and assume it's cpu temp, which is not accurate.

afaik, mobo cant give temp reading based on cpu internal diode, the TJmax reading.

Guys which program's temp readings are more accurate for the I45? Tpower2 or realtemp?

I'm using a X3320, sunbeam core contact freezer, 1.240Vcore, 467x7.5. Tpower2 reports my core temp (100% load) as 49C whereas realtemp reports 57-61C among the 4 cores. Ambient temp is around 24-25C (aircon room).

i think 65nm cpu not suffered from that problem.. so should be accurate..

50? that's high.. maybe the heatsink not seated well.. or maybe too much thermal paste
but on realtemp 2.70 around 30-33 only..

hi guys, wanna ask, previously im using dfi dk p35 mobo on vista 32bit os with 4gb ram, and the os was logically detected about 3.25gb of ram..

but when i use this board it only utilizes 3gb..

i suspect this is caused by "memory remap feature" setting on the bios

am i right?how am i gonna increase the memory utilized?should i disable it? unsure.gif unsure.gif

Added on September 1, 2008, 8:31 amnoob question

Why we need lower the multiplier when we manual overclock?
Like E8400 default multiplier is 9. FSB is 333. (3GHZ). We can just increase the FSB to 400 to achieve 3.6GHz?
(should we change the CPU voltage at 9*400?)

And i see at some website achieve 4GHz as below
9*445= 4.0GHz
increase the CPU voltage from 1.3625v to 1.4000v in order to achieve total stability
However keep in mind that a 445MHz FSB will force you to run the DDR2 memory at no less than 890MHz, though most DDR2-800 memory modules should be capable of this.
increasing the DRAM voltage to 1.9~2.1v could also be necessary
2.2v for 1066 (kingston hyperX)
Using the standard voltage at 3.6GHz saw a stress temp of just 37 degrees, while this temperature sky rocketed to 60 degrees when operating with more voltage at 4.0GHz!
(above is using Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme)
(anyone have change the DRAM voltage from 2.1-2.2? if i using corsiar dominator 1066. should i change to 2.2v?)

Some CPU-z on overclock E8400

for dominator,in their website show safe voltage for it is 2.2v max i think? voltage is nt the problem. i think u shud play wif vmch to make it stable n gud air for dominator. rclxms.gif

becoz to get higher FSB n the fsb:ram ratio in 1:1 is better..

how to properly setup my hdd with ahci with SMART and NCQ?... the settings are quite misleading... primary set to ahci then can set to 4 ports/6ports? then the 2ndary can set to enhanced or disabled?... blurring here since the user manual doesnt explain it properly...

Thanks for fast respone smile.gif
Ya. We can get higher FSB and ram 1:1 ratio is optimal for stability.
There's lots of reasons for running 1:1... One is less stress on the motherboard because it doesn't have to deal with dividers. Two is generally lower latency, because when you go through a divider, you take a memory performance hit. For example, few ddr3 1333 ram are running 1:1. You would need a fsb of 666mhz, just hard achievable with today's hardware.
What to do is play around with frequency, timings, and dividers, until get the lowest memory latency in Everest.

DDR2 800mhz requires a fsb of 400mhz to get 1:1!

DDR2 1000mhz requires a fsb of 500mhz to run 1:1!

DDR2 1200mhz requires a fsb of 600mhz to run 1:1!

DDR3 1333mhz requires a fsb of 666 to run 1:1!

E8400@3Ghz oc to 3.6Ghz without changing the vcore ok? smile.gif
My ram is 1066. 1066/2=533. Mean i can oc 9*533? (if temp no consider) by using Biostar TPower.
Any recommand for oc to 3.6GHz or 4GHz using dominator 1066 ram? What is the suitable multiplier, FSB and vcore?

8 series can oc with less vcore.. 4ghz around 1.4v
my 7 series requires 1.5v..

actually 700fsb achievable with this board IINM.. so 666 is no problem..
now limit only with ddr2..

Does anyone has problems with external hard drives powered by usb bus connected to this mobo?

I have a wireless G7 mouse receiver/charger and G15 keyboard connected to the usb ports at the mobo, when I try to connect any external hard drive, if it's a single usb cable then Windows will show unknown usb device error, and if I connect with a Y-type usb cable then it will recognize the hard drive but my keyboard will be unusable..the backlight on the G15 seems to fluctuate/blinking non stop and lost signal.

However, I've tried to connect the hard drive to the casing front panel usb ports with the Y cable and there's no problem.

I'm suspecting the motherboard does not provide enough power to all the usb ports at the mobo.

Previously I was using abit IP35pro and I had connected these usb devices simultaneously without a hitch sad.gif

EDIT : Apparently after I tried adding a USB pci bracket from my previous mobo, the power seems to be stable now as i connected my KB and mouse receiver to the usb bracket and external HDD to the mobo usb port. smile.gif

got my motherboard 2 weeks ago from skcs46. still using borrowed E2160 and 6600GT 128mb ddr3 as i no cash just yet...
OCed by intothefantasy for me.
now running at 3ghz 333X9
got it to boot at 3.6 ghz 400x9 but didn't test stability... the vcore kind high too.. since the proc is not mine...
1st night test OC a lot of problem... turns out my corsair XMS2 DHX 4gb got prob... after exchange new 1 all runs well...

i got problem with my front audio header...
using CM690 case which give 2 connector for mobo. 1 is HD and 1 AC 97 or something i forgot. i read the manual it say only accept HD connector but it didn't work... i plug in AC 97 connector oso still not working... ish ish ish... anybody know what is the problem here? i can't seem to find any settings in the bios....( PLS HELP T_T)
just went thru the whole tread now i found out how to disable the onboard sound i wan plug in my old sound blaster live 5.1 ady just wondering if i can find driver for vista...
and i found everest temperature monitoring the same as core temp. just another option for ya all.
will post photo of the rig soon.
oh yah.. about this board of mine... in the bios if the smart fan if left unset. the CPU and system fan will run at full speed..... until u open the tpower utility.... my arctic cooling freezer 7 at full speed is like a typhoon is happening in my PC.... geli.... the harbor fan run at 4000+ rpm oso pretty noisy... lowered down to 2500rpm

EDIT: waiting money for E8600 EO and gainward ATi Radeon HD4870 Golden Sample tongue.gif should get both of them around next month =/

the front audio header part.. there is 9 pin only... and the cm690 header connector have 1 of the hole closed which means it can only be connected in one way....... so i don't think it is a matter of in the correct position or not...

all e8400 can be oced to 4ghz easily, it's just that 600mhz is hard to achieve without pushing much vmch, vfsb, vcore and vpll and not mentioning that majority of rams that cannot be oced to 1200mhz except those that uses d9gkx, d9gmh

arghh... i think i bought the buggy 1 out of 1000 TPOWER I45 here..

I try to run CF on this mobo with HIS HD 3870 + Gecube 3870 Turbo 3.
But there's NO CF AT ALL. still running as single card.

Solution done so far:-

Switch all JPE1 - JPE9 (Crossfire Switch Jumpers) from 1-2 to 2-3 as instructed in the manual.

my GPU-Z detect "ATI Crossfire Disable" but at the same time: GPU-Z detect my Bus Interface: PCI-E 2.0 x16 @ x8 2.0 which is as explain by biostar this 2 pci-e 16x will run at x8 when crossfire enable.

My 2nd GPU oso very cold seem like no activities at all.

help help help aaa sifoo sifoo here...

TQ in Advanced..

The problem is.. There are NO CROSSFIRE below the ATI Overdrive menu.. uwaaaa... seems like my CF setup couldn't recognize by BIOS itself.

anyone trying CF with this mobo? mind to share your experience?

For your information, i trying to sweep between these 2 cards to the primary slot and both of them running fine and perfectly.
i think there is something worng with the secondary slot there.

Guyz...How do we wanna change RAM timing on these board? Coz there are so many parameter there. Using latest bios. A far as I concerned, previous boards of mine only have that 5-5-5-15 only which is not so fuzzy like this one...I wanna make my timing more relaxed to gain more speed for my E8500...Help mostly appreciated.

other timing that affect stability other than the big 4 timing aka tCL, tRCD, tRP and tRAS is tRFC and performance level. If ur ram are holding u back, just relax the tRFC and performance level

*
Hey death - I have the same problem as you. Just got 2 HD4850s to play with. Problem is no Crossfire in my CCC, and GPU-Z detects as disabled.
But, my display now is connected to the secondary card! Once I plugged in the 2nd card, I had to reconnect my display.

Any updates? =p

try reset or restart n wait a while.. it will seek a proper setting...
if totally cannot go.. mean ur ram reach it limits..
or the timing on default is not correctly set.. thus cannot boot..
i found some glitch on the bios.. sometimes it reset the ram timing..

There's a molex connector socket on the motherboard if you need additional power.

Under the voltage control tab you can set the voltages in increments of +0.1. Those are in addition to your default RAM voltage, so +0.1 means 1.9v.

i got problem with my front audio header...
using CM690 case which give 2 connector for mobo.
I am using the CM690 and Biostar T45. My Chaintech envy24 AV710 sound card just broken. So i using the Biostar onboard sound chip now. I using the HD connector connect to cm690 front panel. The sound is nice.
Are you trying to install your sound blaster and connect the HD connector to Biostar onboard sound chip?
I also have sound blaster live. Anyone know the Biostar onboard sound would be better than sound blaster live? Because the sound blaster live come out since long time ago.

P/s: maybe i will go buy a new Xi-Fi Extreme Gamer smile.gif

my board with my kingmax ram only configuration 1 and 3 can use.if i use fsb 1333 n ram ratio is 1:1 or 5:6 then use configuration 1,
if use fsb 1066 then my ram must use configuration 3.both the trp* <<<not sure wat name under the configuration one i use 10T or 8T ok.
if conifguration 2 really haven got luck to get it boot.haha

for the con "Sometimes Corrupts my HDD" i got experienced one time is bcos if u set the cpu clock gen there the MCH speed ar(the setting below the cpu clock gen)is 100ps,200ps,300ps.... that one if u set ur MCH to 200ps my hdd direct need use window cd to repair then just can work back.shock me that time.

I'm not sure why, but DDR RCOMP CONFIG set to auto would not POST at any speed above FSB400 with my Dominators. I set it to config 1, and the problem goes away - I easily posted at FSB500.

i've just got my tpower on saturday. still discovering the magic...
when i startup, i saw this:
Marvell 88SE61xx RAID Adapter
Initializing...
Adapter 1
disk information......blah blah

i'm not using RAID setup currently. any way to bypass that?

The southbridge is hotter than northbridge. is that normal?

anyone using this mothernoard with lian li casing? the backplate doesn't align with the IO ports. vmad.gif if it were to align, the motherboards mounting hole will not be aligned with the stud on my casing, which is a PC-G7. currently, i'm not using the backplate. will lizard craw into my casing? rclxub.gif

Added on October 14, 2008, 2:12 amoh 1 more, now i know what TMPIN 1 on hardware monitor is...to be honest iam not quite sure...but 1 thing for sure...its not the real Proceesor Temp...OMG....the TpowerII software only detect TMPIN1 temp...OMG, OMG, OMG, ppl who overclock base on their mobo LED indicator be very carefull...you might end up frying your processor...

OMG i fry my e5200 to 79*c....."tut" you LED indicator... vmad.gif

the led show on mobo is the t-case temperature... u must see the core temperature on realtemp or coretemp... that is the important one..

dun believe the temp indicator on your MOBO.....its not the real CPU core temperature....it just TMPIN1 temp....i assume TMPIN1 maybe just the reading on the pins of processor....use coretemp or any other reliable temp monitor instead

hmm ure setting all is crazy...

Bios
set both cpu gtl to 0.635
leave mch gtl alone
cpu pll to lowest 1.5
nb voltage to 1.2v
fsb termination to 1.2v
leave all the clock skews alone( 500 fsb only right)
disable any form of spectrum.
disable all ure cpu config except for ExeCutable Bits and of Course no Of Cores.
set ure dram config to 3
set ure mem voltage to 2.2v for now..
set ure mem timings to 5-5-5-15...
Leave the subtimings alone.

vcore around 1.25v

ok here is how to test ure each component..

OS Condition
theres 4 test i need to pass before running linpack.. ( usually guarantees linpack 64 around 99% chance of passing 50 runs)
this will take a total time of 3 hours or so..

all must be run in diagnostic mode in windows with virtual mem disabled so that u can test ure hardware fully.

disable screensaver
set ure power options to performance and set ure turn off the display to Never

1st Test
Vcore..MAX |VTT Med |GTL ,NB,RAM Lightly
Run Orthos
Set Test to Blend
and Then Set To Custom
Now u can See the Blend Setting
Change Min FFT to 8 Max FFT to 8 Press OK
Start...
U MUST PASS to atleast 35 mins at Priority 10.
That means two rounds of 15 mins and 3rd Round Test 2
so keep upping ure vcore until u dont see any difference or u pass this requirement

2nd Test
FSB - max |Ram, NB - Mid | GTL/Vcore -Low
Same as Above
But Change Min FFT to 4096 Max FFT to 4096
Then start at Priority 10
U Must pass atleast 32-33mins roughly which means two rounds of 15 mins and entering third round Test 2...
For p45.. Maintain Fsb termination One level Above NB VOltage.
Keep upping NB and FSB one voltage higher than NB till u PASS THIS.

3rd test
GTL - MAX |FSB - MAX |PLL - Max | The Rest - Mid
Run Orthos
Set To Blend
And then to Custom
Change only Time to run each FFT to 1 min...

U need to pass all the fft which is from 8 to the last one that is 4096..
stop after 4096 when it enters back to square one at 1024
FOr this mobo.. theres no setting to change for this for duallies.

4th Test
NB/MEM- Super Max | The Rest - Low
Then run memtest windows...
if ure running 4gb run two instances of memtest each at 1700
make sure u pass 100%
Up Vdimm until u pass. or NB tweaking ( u will know when theres no affect to Vdimm increase when for example that 1 error is always there at a certain level.. balance it and get the optimum)

Now u can pass prime95, Linpack and anything ure heart desire for whatever hours ...

Condition
All this assuming ure ram/nb/cpu is having sufficient cooling
Good air flow
Good stable voltages on ure psu

Have fun.
The Rest Google...or asked those ordained overclocking guru in this thread to help ya.

heck this should be a noob guide for p45's

oh yeah dude after u pass all this u can start tweaking ure rams and testing lower voltages for each component until its perfect...

use the above 4 test to test and end it with linpack 5 runs for 4gb...

PS if ure max temp is already over the wall on orthos around 60C + on load ....dont bother running linpack..
orthos priority 10.. is already a hard requirement to pass..

post dude..

wheres the post
seeing yat post 4.5ghz stable.. yet no screenies..

infact posting the first 3 test above.. can guarantee linpack stable..
so no need 20 runs of linpack 64 on ure case which will take about one hour 15-20 mins..

dude, ur vcore still too high...
try setting it to 1.24v see whether can boot or not...
since the voltage control on I45 is set by adding voltage, set the added voltage for the vNB and vFSB at the same amount
for i45, the vFSB will always be higher a bit that vNB even if u set it @ the same voltage...
later will post my BIOS setting here...

Hi all, I'm planning to purchase the TPower I45 board...
Ermm, does anyone knows if this board overclock q6600 well? <--- I mean from 2.4 to 3.0 GHz only...
Because I heard some rumor saying that this board doesnt OC quad very well...
They say that it is due to its 4-phase...
Is it true? rclxub.gif
Thanks for any reply biggrin.gif
