I haven't touched my guitar for 6 years but I've just sent it to Tham for checking. I'm gonna give this guitar away to someone else more deserving. So here it is... one last look.

Modulus Guitars G2T in Bluestone finish, made in USA 1998.
user posted image
This guitar comes with all the little goodies... graphite nut, locking tuners, heeless neck/body joint, on-the-fly spring tension adjustment, copper painted cavities etc but worth mentioning are...
Electronics: stock - everything Switchcraft. After Tham's work - no idea, but should be quality Japanese stuff.
Neck: stock one (carbon fibre) broke, replaced with a custom-made neck from GIM.
Pickups: comes stock with DiMarzio Air Classic DP190/191, very sensitive and loads of output for something spec'd as "vintage output". Anyone who has a good tube amp wanna hear how this uncommon pickup sounds? The guitar will be going away end of July.

You're welcome to have it for a few days.
You live in PJ now? I can come over anytime since I'm on "holiday" until August.
I actually want all my friends to play it before it's gone =S
The pickups are not what ppl would choose... so it could be an eye opener.

not bad for a rm650 bookshelf monitors and i'm very satisfied with it.. the only problem i have now is crackling sound while turning up the volume.. probably something wrong with my cable.. if u want to use it in a large room i would suggest near05.. for small bedroom these monitors kickass...

Hi guys! I bought a Warnell Les Paul Custom Copy. IMO, it's better than an Epiphone Les Paul Standard.

I bought it from Guitar Planet @ The Summit.

I will post pictures ASAP. I'm still playing with it now. xD

Here are the pictures:

Sorry for the messy bedroom. xD

Posting up my Effects and amp first..... guitar will be up once the Razorback comes in, which should be in a few weeks time.

My Tonelab SE and GCB-95 Wah is NOT in the main Marshall JCM2000 loop. It's connected into a 50W Laney Amp off camera. Still looking for a reasonably priced A/B/Y Switch to chain it all together.

My main effects chain goes:
Boss Noise Suppressor, which has a loop of the Digitech Whammy, Wylde Wah, and Wylde Overdrive, and then the signal path goes into my new MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay and out into the Marshall JCM2000 TSL602. All my pedals (Except for the Tonelab SE and Whammy) is powered by the MXR Power Brick.

Still planning to add in a MXR Chorus and the MXR EVH Phase-90 (and possibly the Rotovibe) into the main loop.

I bought it for RM900. It's quite a good value for money guitar.

The pickups and the playability are quite good too.

Posted the pictures already. Scroll up for it.

I usually set it all to 5 as I have the GE7.
Now I don't really use the preamp(using the CD/line in input) as i'm using the one in the GT8.

I think what I'm gonna write is more like a gear review. About the amp, that's the famous-then-discontinued CPB150 aka Crate PowerBlock. Very much sought after within the MFX users' fraternity. Dubbed as the world's smallest full-featured stereo guitar amp, this lil' monsta features the following:

* 150W mono/75W stereo
* Single-channel FlexWave preamp
* Gain, level, and 3-band EQ knobs
* Headphone jack
* RCA inputs
* Effects loop
* DI
* Left, right, and mono speaker outputs
* Switch mode power supply
* 4-1/2 lbs.
* Padded travel bag

Nothing to shout about the front panel, but look at this back panel:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

So many ways in hooking this thing up i.e. direct input, FX loop, RCA/CD in. For output you can either choose the XLR, mono/stereo or in my current case the headphones. I bought this thing just purely to amplify the sounds from my GT-8, period. No sound coloration. And this can be achieved (from my reading) by feeding your MFX unit thru the CD input (I need to look for a 1/4" jack > 2 RCA soon).

I won the unit from an eBay bid for around USD 200 including shipping (the unit is around USD 140). Very good deal indeed, mine is like 97% brand new with all the original box, manual and carrying bag. The seller kept the unit as his backup for gigging out and his main amp never went down, so practically unused. From what i read on the net, the market price is around USD150, used since it has been discontinued. When it was selling like hot cakes few years back, one can get for as cheap as USD99 especially from Guitar Center, although the list price was (as appears from my sticker box) USD299. Best bet to get it from eBay or search in the craigslist and ask the seller one by one whether they ship it to Malaysia (that's what i did actually, sadly everybody said NO! blush.gif ).

When I 1st opened the packaging, I knew for sure that I need to replace the US power cord (one round tip on top, with two vertical tips at the bottom):

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

It was around 11.30pm. Driven by over-excitement, I looked around the house for the replacement cord and guess what, I ended up using my son's steriliser power cord! Anyway, while waiting for buka puasa time 2 days ago, I went to ACE hardware and grabbed a kettle cord and a universal adaptor. Back to the my virgin experience with the PB, I connected my newly pimped Schecter C-1 into PB's input, set all the knobs at 12 o'clock and jacked in the cans. I slowly turned up the vol of my guitar, and half way thru, it's DAMN LOUD already. 150W of sheer power, whaddaya expect? brows.gif Overall, I like the sound produced by the preamp section and the gain is pretty good!

I've yet to try feeding my GT-8 into this amp coz I'm still looking for that RCA cable. Ah, before I forgot, actually this amp was designed to be paired together with the Crate GT112SL, which also has been discontinued. I've asked some dealers around the region, but so far the news is not on my side. Either they don't have it anymore or they can't ship it to our country. Alternatively, I'm planning to build my own cabs (2 units of 1x12 - run in stereo baby!). To get the best out of the PB, I guess the cabs should follow the GT112SL's specs i.e. Celestion G12K-100 (8 ohms), semi-open back etc. Even this speakers also very hard to find... Haiyya, I think I'm gonna use my headphones for quite a time....

Anyway, to give you guys an idea of how this lil' thing performs, just check this vid:

More Oranges sweat.gif
Just got both the 'Orange Micro Crush' and 'Fender '57 Mini Tweed' Amp yesterday from clearance sale for about £20(RM 130) each biggrin.gif
I'd prefer the orange over the boxier sounding fender although I love its overdrive knob. Nevertheless both sounds pretty good esp when plugged in with the headphones. I had a Marshall MicroAmp before and this is definitely better.

lol..sorry bros. Those were the last ones. There used to be be more than a dozen micro amps a week ago but was gone in less than a week when the sale started. Most of the good stuff is gone by the time I went there. Left quite alot of Squire starter packs bundle with amp going for £199 (RM 1200+)

I had a Marshall MicroAmp before and this is definitely better.

to get almost a similar tone, the new EHX Bass Big Muff has almost identical voicing, but of course need to tweak cos and some sort of synth with a blend pedal..

cos i heard chris uses an old big muff or russian muff with a Akai Deep Impact. MT-2 cannot get muse tone sadly sad.gif

Yeah, but somehow on the Tonelab..... it sounds better in the FX in. I've been doing that with my ZW-44 and it makes the distortion a little more controllable.

odd.................i should try that setup, i still dont get why i bought the metal zone its a far cry from my mid gain, high lows and mids OD loving tone. owh and i want to ask should i fx the tonelab on the amp? i feel its kinda odd having a amp model then the amp, is it possible to put the tonlab stright to the power amp?

You will have to 4-wire it. Google up 4-Wire or 4-Cable FX Loop and try that out.

far as i know, using the effects loop will make you go

guitar -> preamp -> tonelab -> power amp.

if im not wrong, you still pass the preamp that forms some tone. unless i connect the guitar stright to the tonelab? wonder if thats possible.

Best bet if you want a pure power amp, is to get a separate power amp. Then you can wire your to your speaker using a speaker out (assuming the ohm readings are the same)

nope. funny u mention it, thats the other thing i hate about my gtr, the knob is loose and easily drop, compare to my korean made RG. the knob has this small screw that suppose to hold it tight, but no matter how hard i tighten it, it always went loose again.

if u see closely, there's a light round shape scratch on the body near the tone knob.. i was trying to tighten the knob, but i didnt realize that the knob was soo close to the body sad.gif

after been left for quite a while (about 2 years), both knob are krem d.., cannot turn anymore sad.gif any solution?

I order from Rinton Music, Thailand. it costs around RM4K, including hardcase and UPS shipping.

Check them out, http://www.guitarandpickup.com/

Rm4K????!!!!

That's bloddy hell expensive for a copy. To me, I'd rather get a proper PRS SE instead of that copy for the price. Sorry...... that's just me.

It wasn't a pro job, just some PVC tapes that I put at the edge to makes it seems cooler. It looks pretty convincing at a range la.

Sweettooth if you decide to tape your guitar(which I don't recommend la..new guitar wut), make sure to tape the sticking part to other surface first before putting it in guitar since it could tape your paint off. Erm..where's da photo of your ESP Alexi??

Oxalato: it's an MIJ RG470.. Cost me 90cents. tongue.gif

You know what... I just thought of something for SweetTooth.....
I bought these vinyl stickers for my Guitar Hero guitar (morphed it into Zakk's Bullseye) custom made in a sticker shop in Sungai Wang. It's on the floor with all the IT stuff, along a dark corner tucked away in the back.

You just give them the dimensions/measurements and what color you want it in. They print it out and then you just paste it yourself, or maybe can even get them to paint it.

Yup. Like I said, my LP-100 is now fitted with 2 EMG 81, and I can swap for either ones.

Why not get the 81TW so you can do coil tapping? That would be quite awesome actually.

Or just get the newer EMG81 in Gold!

About Rm450 if I remembered.
I wanted to get the Chorus, but at 750, I would rather get the Dunlop one....... still saving for that one.

Ask and ye shall receive.

It's my Marshall JCM2000 TSL602, Vox Valvetronix VT15 (God, I love this amp) and my first old Laney Linebacker. Bought it probably 2nd or 3rd hand at the time, but it served me well. And yes. I love British Amps smile.gif All I need now is an Orange to add to my collection.

I thought of getting the VT15 vox or Peavey Vypyr ... but the new AC4TV is soooo tempting.

In all honesty, I don't find an Orange amp useful in my current lineup. My tiny vox can handle that kind of crunch already. And I mostly use my Marshall (with the Zakk OD of course) for my high gain stuff.

Sounds damn nice on clean and overdrive... but not very defined on heavy distortions. At first I just wanna play test it .. but once I play I cannot let it go tongue.gif it's way better compared to the 2k++ Epi SG custom I tested the other week.

You think it's cokia, but it's probably the most unique franken-guitar that we have man!
It looks quite awesome and with a few more upgrades (EMG actives, some wooden control knobs, maybe a push/pull coil tapping system), it would be Legendary!

I wouldn't paint anything on it man..... the raw wood look is the way to go IMHO. Kind of looks like an Iceman BFG tongue.gif

more or less like this with the wooden knobs:
user posted image

A push/pull coil tap means that if you pull up on a tone knob, you can switch your humbuckers to run on a single coil mode..... Of course, only certain models of humbuckers can support this feature. EMGs have the new gold plated humbuckers, which would look DAMN good on this guitar.

Kelvw, probably not. In terms of a metal tone, my Zakk Wylde LP or modified LP-100 covers that already. If I WOULD get a Gibson Les Paul, it would be a Standard or higher grade. The Classic Custom is another one on my list.

But like I said in the Guitar Phreaks thread, I have probably more need of either
a) Jackson Mark Morton Dominion
b) Ibanez S Prestige
c) Schecter Jeff Loomis Signature/Hellraiser 7

Paid 1150 together with the boss adapter. Couldnt say how they compared together, to me GT is more towards tweak ability, while ME has a more simple, no nonsense approach.

I tested the GT10 too, if you love to experiemnt, wouldn't go wrong with the GT series IMO.

Finally, my ultimate modded LTD-200...
Slammed an original floyd rose bridge into it. Surprisingly it really helps improving overall sustain of the guitar!
Refinished using a couple of spray cans. (damn wasting time! I would never ever going to do guitar refinish work by myself anymore!!!)

Cosmetically it's not perfect, but it has killer tones with 18 volt EMG pickups!
Now I play it more than my original ESP guitar... haha.... thumbup.gif

BTW, sorry for the poor quality phone photos....

Plus I have no time to take better photos ..
Anyway, I still can't wait to share with u guys that OFR bridge DO HELP increasing guitar overall sustain!!
I just love how it sings with 18volt EMG pickups!

Yes, I always love the way OFR fluttering~~~~~ maybe this is the reason why it can provide better sustains compared to licensed FR.

no la...the reason is cos OFR is made from pure stainless steel including the block and not diecast like every other floyd out there.
the older ones the fine tuners and underneath the saddles are also brass.
i think the newer ones the fine tuners are sprayed black? so im assuming the fine tuners now are steel or perhaps diecast now to cut cost.

no la...the reason is cos OFR is made from pure stainless steel including the block and not diecast like every other floyd out there.
the older ones the fine tuners and underneath the saddles are also brass.
i think the newer ones the fine tuners are sprayed black? so im assuming the fine tuners now are steel or perhaps diecast now to cut cost.

Thanks guys. The Epiphone was an anniversary gift biggrin.gif
I do have interest in photography but doing it mainly out of passion. I did photography in art many years ago

Anyway it went on sale for around £215 = about RM 1160. Everything was 20% off which was reasonable. Now just waiting for the case to be delivered. It is incredibly cheap considering what you get. biggrin.gif

I'll try to do a quick review, nothing in-depth.
Firstly it's MIC so I wasn't expecting much after returning my previous 2 Epiphone LesPauls. There were some light blemish on the neck but nothing obvious. The guitar has to be wiped down from dust, I think it could be from factory production. The nut mmm.. it could be better, feels a bit cheapish.

The strings and fretboard were dirty as my finger tips were stained after a few runs. But was ok after some lemon oil and string cleaner. Then it was good to go and plugged into my TinyTerror. I know I should have just change the strings..but I'm so eager to play it.

The neck was chunky but comfortable and assessing higher frets were much easier than a LesPaul. The body seemed big but comfortable whilst sitting down.
The stock pickups are ok but not as hot as my other Gibsons. Actually I do somehow quite like it now, nice warm bluesy mellow tone. And on the TinyTerror, it's like on the verge of breaking but not in harsh way with gain on 2'oclock.

I don't think I'll be changing my pickups soon although I wished it was a bit more 'opened' with added clarity. Overall I'm happy with it, and as said it's pretty good value for money. thumbup.gif

Hey Dilin that's a Torino 4. Looks nice with the gold hardwares and quilted maple top I think, and it's damn light compared to the av3. One thing I like about it is the two endpin strap buttons, makes it more balance than the traditional SG design.

ah... another Dot user. No I don't need a semihollow.. no way whistling.gif Kelvw have you every try out the es-339? Seems not so expensive in the UK compared to the es-335.

goth g-400 is a satin finish, so basically its a fingerprint magnet.
between both, quality wise it should be about the same, just design difference.

Beautiful collection!!

Anyways, here's a few from my collection.

This is a Paul Reed Smith CE-22 with a figured maple body. Do they have these in Malaysia? I've never seen them here in penang.

This is a Taylor 810CE acoustic-electric w/Venetian cutaway with solid Indian Rosewood back and Sitka Spruce top. My wife bought it for me a few years back. She is so sweet.
This is my favorite. I do not believe they sell these in M'sia, but I could be wrong.

Blackstar HT-5 rocks! esp the ISF control...very very nice.
You may also want to check out Marshall Class 5 amp and it's made in UK.

Can't decide which ones to choose from now, Blackstar or Marshall.
Very tempted to pre-order the Class 5 or to get the HT-5 stack or the Blackstar series One 45watts. doh.gif

Sorry for slow response. Been trying the amps out.
The Haze is freakin' loud with no master vol. It does clean nicely and starts breaking up around 10ish -11 with a LesPaul, great sounding for blues if it's cranked in the clean channel. (I had to attenuate to keep my neighbours sane). Plenty of gain in 2nd channel and sounds fantastic for the classic rock tone. Only downside it gets too bright (with the bright switch engaged) on lower volumes but less noticeable when volume is turned up.

Compared to the TinyTerror, the Marshall has more clarity and the obvious advantage of having an EQ whereas the TT sounds darker and grittier. Sorry Blacktrix, I've not heard a plexi in person so I can't do a comparison.
However the TT has somehow more mojo, can't explain why but probably it's simpler and ballsy.

Here's the current setup biggrin.gif

wow almost RM2k...kinda pricey. No problems with portability as it comes with a gig bag. You'll just need to find a cab to plug in to. Why not a NightTrain, I think it's cheaper than a TT in KL.

Damn Kelv, all of your pics are making me jealous. Btw, what is the price like for Epiphone LP and Gibson LP you can buy from the UK? Just want to compare the price there with here.
*
Mm.. standard store prices varies but on average a new LP Standard 2008 is about £1899 (RM10,800) and a Traditional is £1699 (RM9,700) Some haggling could probably get it lower but not much.
Epiphone LP is roughly about £399 now. However there are some good deals around at discounted prices.

HTH

*Edit*
You could look up these few websites for some ideas on prices. But generally I would sometimes wait for 15- 20% discounts biggrin.gif However I was offered a new LP Junior for £529 (RM3,000+) last week, very tempting but decided I had enough LP for now. Maybe a white strat next time.

Finally months of contemplating if I should get one and skeptical with the hype. Just jumped the gun yesterday and brought it home tongue.gif
Yes it sounds really good! Cab sounds thin but plugged into the 1x12 V30 loaded cab, it roars. Sounds great at low volume esp for late night practice or with the headphone out emulation.

I'd seriously recommend the Blackstar amp if you guys could get hold of one (Spore?)
Lovely tones even on low volumes, perfect for bedroom playing. Plenty of gain to start with and loads of tonal possibilities. Highly recommended for a practice tube amp.

Well, that is an issue. it is a floating trem, not assisted with locking nuts. The trem is actually good, but does not work very well.
I can play it around a little bit, but more than semitone, the strings gonna get out of tune a bit.
This is because the strings are stuck at the nut. Some say replacing the nut with a roller nut can fix it. Some say just put some grease at the nut can help it. Some say by replacing the tuning heads will make things go smoothly. Tired with this ideas, I set it to a fixed non-floating position instead. I'm not really a trem maniac. hehe

What I can say about the bridge is, it has a very good sustaining capabilities. smile.gif

Try lubricating everything the string touches...

That includes the nut and the saddles on the bridge...

You can try some 2B pencil lead... Works great for me!

Mind if i ask you, how the ac4tv sounds? nice or not? how well the amp reacts with pedal, such as your me-70? becoz im planning to buy the head and cab model...
*
its pretty great for what i play, blues and some alternative sorta rock. with a pedal or two it can even do some metal, but it might not be heavy enough for most metal-heads. overall its got a very smooth, creamy overdrive tone, when you max the volume and tone it starts getting a BIT harsh. if you're gonna play clean with this amp it might not be the best idea though, 4 watts might not be enough headroom for some. i don't have a strat, but i have heard many people saying how well single coils match with the amp.

its pretty loud but i would suggest to use it in enclosed areas. i bring it for band practice here at a pal's garage and set it to the 1 watt setting with the volume and tone maxed, then stack on my OD-1 setting on my boss and step on the compressor for solos. with the volume and tone maxed out its already in heavy overdrive (not distortion) mode, then adding on the boss OD it kind of thickens the sound and adds more oomph to it, a nice boutique analog overdrive pedal would be nice, but this works pretty well for me!

in an enclosed area its loud enough to play with drums but i've tried maxing the volume on my amp in a more open-spaced room at the 4 watt setting and it can't keep up with the drums. i would actually say my 15 watt line 6 amp is louder than the vox ac4tv, but is definitely no match in terms of tone.

so for rock and blues (and some cleans) this amp is perfect. but if you want something with more crunch, i think the orange tiny terror beats this hands down, though the price is isn't too pretty and i've only heard clips of it on youtube tongue.gif

Would it be too loud for practising in the bedroom if I set the poweramp at 1/4 watt? Planning to buy AC4TV8, the smallest one with 8 inch speaker...

depends on how big your room is and what you're going to play.. keep in mind that these babies don't have master volume knobs, so if you want clean you gotta play soft, and if you want hard out overdrive you have to max the volume! it can get quite loud, but of course its not overpowering, and as long as you close the doors and windows it should be quite soft to others in the house, but try it for yourself to be sure. and the 8 inch speaker won't be as loud.

adding a boss ds-1 just defeats the purpose of getting a small tube amp.
like that better save money and get marshall mg10 or something cheaper.

whoa super awesome finish! nice guitar man.

btw you have to crank the amp's volume up to get to the sweet spot - overdrive, and i use an overdrive pedal to just add more edge to it for solos and stuff. but without any pedals you can still get overdrive. just not crazy metal distortion.

ZintanthraX: haha thanks, there are a couple recording up on youtube. I doubt I could do a good recording with the crappy camera.

headhunter7: The grains are from the maple top smile.gif

finalzz: yup you're right.. it has the inverse neck pickup & other GM mods. Look up Gibson's website, they've just updated the specs/page.
It plays so much better than the R8 with more tonal possiblities.

ok here's the last one with the rest of the brethren's
