Recommend downloading during the Download Day 2008 event. You will be part of the world record. That's something. Or download now, and then later (1am+) download again.

They're aiming for the world record for most software download in 24 hours. So if you download within 1AM 18th local time to 1AM 19th local time should be counted.

sori, anyone can help me, i'm using FF3 RC1 now, keep asking to install plugin (Adobe Flash Player) when open this site (LYN), i installed the plugin by clicking the yellow bar, and it stated succesfully installed and restart the Firefox, but after that, the yellow bar (that asking for the plugin) still appear, quite annoying now, already 'installed' 3 times now but still like that, so anyone can guide me how to settle this problem? thanks notworthy.gif

Mozilla Blog site says its getFirefox servers went down just before official Launchtime (1.00 am 18th June Malaysian time). Still no official announcement on new launch time.

The filehippo site released RC3 as the Final...both same MD5 Checksum, contents 100% identical, but different date of creation. We shall see....... biggrin.gif

Are you ready to make history? Are you ready to set a World Record? Today is Download Day. To become part of the official Guinness World Record you must download Firefox 3 by 17:00 UTC on June 18, 2008, or roughly 24 hours from now.

That email is out of date. Download day is still on hold.

Ya, that's right!

I've actually downloaded it from the Mozilla FTP Server shortly after 1am. Did that because the Mozilla.com website was down!

Now, I downloaded a 2nd copy directly from Mozilla.com website, and performed MD5 check on both files I downloaded, and they are the same.

In any case, the MD5 hash is c971bb2273d24d62dd15dcdbd6030ea3 if you are using the English (US) version.

The UA string: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008052906 Firefox/3.0
(will vary depending on your OS of course)

Anyhow, the build ID is Gecko/2008052906 which is the same build ID in RC3! So RC3 = Final Release!

The downloading was slow for you guys? I downloaded it in like 2 minutes lol. Most of my add-ons and themes don't work but the new theme is way better than any I've used. Love this browser rclxms.gif I slight complaint is that scrolling is pretty bad at times(at least on the Mac version), hopefully they can fix this soon
user posted image
BTW, how many downloads is required for Firefox to get the world record? I tried googling this but couldn't get any answers, if someone can help me with this that'll be great icon_rolleyes.gif

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

BTW, how many downloads is required for Firefox to get the world record? I tried googling this but couldn't get any answers, if someone can help me with this that'll be great icon_rolleyes.gif
*
well....for the world record , actually there isnt any world record on "most downloaded software in one day" yet. so they're trying to make this record the first one on the category (means as an achivement that must be surpassed by other software to gain the title).

hopefully reach 3mil mark by the end of the day biggrin.gif

On a system with 3GB RAM total memory available to Windows:

When on Firefox 2, the RAM usage went up to 600MB++

But since using Firefox 3, the highest it went up before in my case was slightly over 200MB.

Perhaps in your case it could be due to problematic extensions/themes.

"How to Disable "Smarter" Address Bar in Firefox 3

The "smarter" address bar might be help for some people.if you want to disable follow this.

The first step, in the address bar, enter in about:config

It should give you some warning. Just disregard it.

In the filter/search bar, enter: browser.urlbar

Change the browser.urlbar.matchOnlyTyped boolean to True. (Double click it)

Next, change the browser.urlbar.maxRichResults integer to 0. (Double click and enter in 0 instead of current number) "

Only several hours ago I think we will reach 4 million by midnight. Really under estimated.

Yeah, 10 million is possible. Just have to monitor the progress.

Say, perhaps we will hit 6 million within another 3 hours from now.

But in most of the time, it doesn't take up much of CPU power.

Yes, if loading Lelong.com, it took up 50% (100% for the single core).

Another website that causes high CPU utilization is the home page of Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC)

URL: http://www.gsc.com.my/

Note: Only appear to happen in the home (main) page of the website. Apparently, there are many animated images in the home page.

hmm.. i dunno why i still love IE8 Beta 1 (emulate IE7). no matter how much tab or which site i go, still remaining low resources. firefox also not bad, but bcoz it cant access and navigate properly in hotmail, i decided to stick with IE8 for now until firefox become normal again. I can access hotmail using firefox by using FF3 Beta 5, but when it change into RC1 till final release, it cannot access already. haih...

Boy, now my FF3 is eating up 600mb++ of RAM.

I hope this is just purely the add-ons problem OR else this version shouldn't be install to machines that have RAM like 256 or 512MB.

Ya,

And Malaysia & Singapore now exceeds 16,000, with Singapore trailing closely behind Malaysia.

But if comparing population, we are far behind Singapore since we have a higher population.

Put the number of downloads to the record book.

Sure it will go in because before that no such category record been made.

Added on June 18, 2008, 5:08 pmNow download is 5.3 million.

We could hit 6 million at 6pm or 7pm.

Still long time before closing - 2am something tonight so it might possible to hit 10 million.
People just wait and see.

Discovered a bug for my FF, whenever I restart the browser and go to sites like LYN or Photobucket that requires me to login, it won't remember my login(yeah I checked the "remember me" box) in the previous session I have to login again all the time. Any way to fix this?

typical memory usage of 100-150 MB is normal, if you find Firefox always uses less memory than that, count yourself lucky.

Really don't understand why do most ppl still use Internet Explorer, when there is a better browser called Firefox....

I hope Firefox dominate the browser market share by 90% in the future, and left 10% for IE... hehe...

Something annoying about FF3.

For example if I want to do "Open All in Tabs" for a folder of bookmarks.

FF2 will open all those website (as in the folder bookmarks) in tabs and REPLACE the present one inside single windows.

where else :-

FF3 will open all those website (as in the folder bookmarks) in tabs and ADDING to the present one inside single windows.

Instead of re-fleshing tab webpage inside the single windows, FF3 will keep on adding more tab website inside the single windows.

Any solution?

first type "about:config" on your firefox address bar.
then find "browser.urlbar.maxRichResults" and set the value to 0

to test the resource hogging thingy, dont instantly open firefox and open 10 tabs, it will still show take less than 100k ram. u try to use your firefox without closing the program for like 4 hours while surfing with 2 or more tabs open than u can see that its still the same ol resource hogging.

i only downloaded it, wont install until tabmix plus is supported smile.gif

Firefox 3 Vulnerability Found
Nancy Gohring, IDG News ServiceWed Jun 18, 8:00 PM ET

CODE
Five hours after Mozilla officially released Firefox 3.0, researchers found a vulnerability in the new browser.

Tipping Point has verified the bug and reported it to Mozilla, Tipping Point said on Wednesday.

Since Mozilla is still working on a fix, the researchers won't share details about the problem. Tipping Point ranked the severity of the vulnerability as high, but said that users would have to click on a link in an e-mail or visit a malicious Web page before being affected. The issue affects users of Firefox 3.0 as well as Firefox 2.0.

Once the problem is fixed, Tipping Point will publish an advisory on its Web site, it said.

Tipping Point found out about the vulnerability through its Zero Day Initiative, which lets researchers earn cash by submitting new vulnerabilities to the company. Once Tipping Point validates the issue, it pays the researcher for the information and notifies the relevant software vendor of the technical details.

Mozilla did not respond to a request for comment.

Mozilla launched its newest browser on Tuesday along with a marketing stunt that went a bit wrong. The company announced that it wanted to set a Guinness World Record for the largest number of software downloads in a 24-hour period. However, the volume of downloads crippled Mozilla's site, and so customers in the U.S. couldn't begin downloading the software until two hours later than expected. Still, Mozilla said it logged more than 8 million downloads within 24 hours. There is currently no record for number of software downloads in a day, but Mozilla must now wait for review of the stunt by Guinness officials.

the one cool feature that they should have added long time ago is the Full screen zoom feature which was already implemented in opera long time ago.

I don't know why, but even Firefox 3 can't quite open this site :
http://www.zune.net/en-US/

Even if it does open, its after 2 minutes or more... painfully slow.

Sometimes nothing happens, just the 'Zune' bar at the top and that's it... IE7 the same

dude it's a joke
microsoft as a proprietary (closed source) company will only send the cakes where else mozilla a open source company will not only send the cakes but gives the recipe too. Get it ?

IDM 5.12 build 8 + FF3 no probs for me.. well,, i have updated to the latest build but I haven't tested it yet...

Firefox 3 doesn't really feel that awesome to me...Apart from the less memory consumption, loading pages does not have a significant change. For em its like a FF2 with less memory usage. wink.gif

Firefox 3 is such a letdown, I used to uncheck Keep My History and Remember What I Type In Forms and Search Bar in FF2 but still the address bar will remember what I typed previously in my history... but now I have to because in order to use the not so special AwesomeBar.

The RSS reader is not right. If you click a link in your RSS feed and then you reload it, you will still see a logo at the clicked link and it shows that you've already visited it. In FF2, if the RSS is reload then everything is reload just like you've never click it.

Okay guys, I found out that if you have ForecastFox add-on to FF3, you will have terrible time to log in to Maybank2U.

Maybank2U log in screen will be keep on re-fleshing, you are total can't key in anything to log in bar.

Disable "ForecastFox" fix the problem.

p/s ForecastFox is the weather forecasting program. Quite a cool program cry.gif

Another website that causes high CPU utilization is the home page of Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC)

URL: http://www.gsc.com.my/

Note: Only appear to happen in the home (main) page of the website. Apparently, there are many animated images in the home page.
*
if you have adblock plus, put this under 'Element hiding rules'

CODE
gsc.com.my#DIV(style=overflow: hidden; position: relative; width: 550px; height: 16px;)

this will disable the scrolling text, the cause of the high cpu usage

it's cruel but it really helps

I don't face such problems, not even when I was using Fx 2.

But I faced such problems occasionally if using IE.

Does that happen to you only on certain pages or all pages? Which website are you visiting that caused the problems?

What do you mean it still under RC3?

Firefox 3 stable release is now released. And it is the same code as RC3.

Usually, the release candidates are released to obtain feedback, and if everything is alright, it will be released as the stable release.

just check wit ~Kasteo & here's wat he said:

Noia eXtreme for Firefox 3.0 is about 60% done. I plan to release the beta version on Thursday, June 26th(Thailand time).

Then I will wait for the feedback and bugs report. The Noia eXtreme 3.4 will be release later on July 4th.

What do you mean it still under RC3?

Firefox 3 stable release is now released. And it is the same code as RC3.

Usually, the release candidates are released to obtain feedback, and if everything is alright, it will be released as the stable release.

Hey guys, anyone face FF3 error? I get a xul.dll error at times, other than that it's working perfectly fine.

On a side note, anyone knows a compatible plugin to download youtube videos? My current one is no longer supported. sad.gif

Thanks.

been using FF3 for many month now and i must say it is much better than FF2 (my opinion, my preference) .. and about the add on, i've tried 3 beta version of FF3 and add-on update was fast .. in a matter of week usually, author of the add-on update his/her add-on to be compatible with the latest ver.

but depend on what add-on you were using ler .. unknown/rare one (last updated last year shakehead.gif ) of course will have problem
