Hmm the new UI for the XBOX 360 feels a lot like Windows Media Center.

As for the Avatar, from what I gather instead of buying gamerpics, you'll be buying items to customise your avatar. Also some items could be unlockables from games... I can has Recon anyone?

Seeing that they plan the announcement so close to Nintendo/Sony conference. It's either...
1. Microsoft don't want people to forget about their news after first day in e3.
2. Given that Bungie is independant now, they are choosing to do things their way.
3. Maybe just an announcement about Halo 3 stuff...then ppl go boo boo.
4. They sold their soul to Sony or Nintendo.
5. Nintendo once said they could make Halo too if they want to. So Bungie want to prove they can make Mario as well. Bungie making a platform game. featuring....a toilet cleaner.

So now it's confirmed new game, published by Microsoft and the announcement were suppose to come after Sony E3 conference, but they are holding off the announcement for now.

I guess they were saving it to counter Sony should they have announced or shown anything that they deemed "threatening" at their press conference. Sadly, there was none of the sort except for the CG trailer of God of War 3.
