Children of Heaven inspired Neo to explore issues faced by Singaporean youths in his 2002 film I Not Stupid. Following the success of I Not Stupid, he decided to adapt Children of Heaven to a 1960s Singaporean kampung setting, to emphasise the messages of friendship and kinship. On 12 September 2003, Malaysian censors announced their decision to ban the screening of Homerun in Malaysia, citing scenes which "are easily interpreted by some Malaysian audiences' [sic] as containing political elements related to current issues". Raintree filed an appeal, arguing that the positive messages in the film were more salient than the political satire, but it was unsuccessful. Malaysian moviegoers polled by Life! and the China Press expressed disappointment with the ban, calling it "unnecessary" and stated a desire to watch the film via pirated VCD. The movie won several awards, including the Grand Prix Prize at the 2003 Golden Swan Awards, the Golden Butterfly Prize for Best Direction at the Isfahan International Children's Film Festival, and a trio (Best Director, Best Newcomer, and People's Choice Award) at the Montreal Film Festival. It also received two nominations at the 2003 Golden Horse Awards, for Best Theme Song (拥有) and Best New Performer. Aiyoo... Malaysian Movie Censorship Board is really really poor in terms of rating films... Worse, they ban films for their names (e.g Babe (innocent piggy movie!) and Daredevil (stating they ban it because there are scenes of kicking to the head !!!)... LOL We have... U - everyone can watch... but wait a minute "bimbingan untuk kanak-kanak umur 13 tahun dan ke bawah"? WTF ??!! Then put it as PG-13 lah !!!  18SG - violence... ok, this one is fine... but THESE DAYS, THEY PREFER 18PL OVER THIS... 18PL - Censorship Board's Most favourite... 18PA - political/religious elements? The award should go to... THE DA VINCI CODE... But guess what? edit: THE DA VINCI CODE - 18PL - but they never censored any parts including full-back nudity, when other countries are fighting over what scenes to show and whether to ban it or not... etc. etc. Crap crap crap.... I don't think they will ever see the day when movies are used as a tool for showcasing young talent, and a tool for unity... NEVER "...they will always go after films that will not appeal to mainstream audiences. They will also cull films they deem not appropriate for all races, especially Malaysia being an Islamic country. If it was Singapore, then its different. after so many years, i think i nv seen any show with rating of 18PA shown in malaysia lol.

Look, this is a country that renamed "Hellboy" supersapiens, then decided that Hellboy 2 was acceptable. We're just a bunch of mindless puppets being feed propaganda from the media... apa mau buat? Malaysia Boleh mah. JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG (hummed to AM BANK's theme).

I watched this movie cuz my friend got it... and it is a fabulous movie! I was so touched by how good the kids' acting!!! They were so real and reminded me of my childhood... Everything happened only because of the pair of white shoes... kesian... hidup kemiskinan and it shows how evil can teachers be cuz they dont teach the children with love.. just like when I was in my primary school... that time canning was still legal... and the teachers only punish students but never go deeper into why the kids acted the way they do... Now most kids live in very comfortable life... very seldom you get to see children who live in a poor condition compared to last time... And this movie shows how hard their lives are... This movie deserves an award!
