And also, firmware 2.0 is coming out in a couple of weeks, so once it's safe to upgrade to 2.0, you can write chinese from the native SMS app.

The firmware upgrade is free if that's what you mean..

Firmware upgrades will always be free for iPhone but not for iPodTouch. Whereas apps from apps store in the future might charged or maybe free.

if you are already on firmware 2.0, that means you are having the latest upgraded firmware. you don't need to do whatsoever upgrading anymore.

upgrading firmware can DIY by yourself. google and read up.
