Texas Instruments (TI) DLP Products at InfoComm 2008 introduced what it claims is the industry's first home theater lamp-free projector that utilizes a PhlatLight LED light source and a BrilliantColor chipset.

The lamp-free projector delivers a 1080p picture, while eliminating maintenance costs such as lamp replacements and filter changes required by some competing projector products, according to the company. Multiple DLP customers have plans to develop DLP lamp-free LED-based projectors, including Optoma, with units expected to ship in late 2008, stated the company. Similar to the deployment of the company's BrilliantColor technology, the solid-state, lamp-free innovation will first be incorporated into home theater units and proliferate through corporate and education product lines thereafter.

Due to the inherent switching speed of the DLP chip and advancements in LEDs from Luminus, consumers will benefit from the increased picture quality, reliability and value found in this new projector category. The reflective nature of the mirrors on the DLP chip allow more light to reach the screen resulting in a 50% increase in color gamut range producing more than 200 trillion colors and a contrast ratio in excess of 500,000:1, according to the company. The proprietary combination of LED illumination, coupled with DLP technology elevates picture quality to a new level while eliminating the traditional projection lamp.

In addition to the expanded color and contrast performance, the illumination system has a long life and offers up to 30% lower power usage and, most significantly, hundreds of dollars in savings from lamp purchases, noted the company.

Due to the sealed DLP optics, DLP projectors are inherently prepared to withstand dusty environments and unlike projectors based on other technologies, do not require a filter to protect the optics. Most DLP projectors are filter-free. This important value attribute will remain true with new lamp-free DLP projectors, eliminating potential costly filter cleaning and replacements required by other technologies.

According to Amazon UK, the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy boxset will be released on the 30th of this month. Dunno weather it's region free or not. The boxset is listed at 43.49 pounds but after I click the checkout, the price is shown as 37.01 pounds only hmm.gif

**EDIT**

Oh, just remembered about the VAT, hence the price difference tongue.gif

According to the website below, the individual version of of the POTC movies are region free. Guess I'll go ahead with the "place your order" button laugh.gif

Yup, prices at Amazon UK is VAT included. Foreign address will get it cheaper.

I've ordered from Amazon UK a few times already, all using standard delivery (Royal Mail), all of them arrived in 7 to 8 days including weekend. thumbup.gif

The only studio I know to really utilize the region coding is Fox. Other studios only use it on few titles only, mostly new ones that still showing in cinemas in other regions.
