hi all,

i've been cruising through the 50+ pages of this thread and it seems you guys are loving the omnia.

i just got poisoned by my cousin..he's from sg, and already bought omnia. immediately fell in love with it.

just wondering, which one is better: buy 8gb for cheaper price and upgrade with sd card later, or buy 16gb straight? considering that i may be on a tight budget and cannot spend too much on the phone this time round.

oh, and when i do get myself this phone..looks like i have to read a lot on installing and upgrading firmware...never had a PDA phone before!

thanks guys and girls! rclxms.gif

do you mind showing us the digital frame holder is it really digital or jsut a normal photo frame
*
actually it's more like "Digital Frame" holder, whereby the digital frame is refering to the omnia itself, running the digital frame app.

it's just a PDA holder, for GPS usage too. smile.gif

wah..so funny that i skipped earlier pages and went to this page and you are discussing on batt.

i also seem to be worried with my batt life...but please advise whether this is normal or not yea?

i charged yesterday night, at around 8PM i guess, plugged it out at around 2 am. this time already fully charged, and in fact the phone indicated full charge earlier..i think around 12am.

so i sent 1 sms, set alarm that's it. then i tried my GPS with Garmin this morning, for about 5-10 mins. after switching off, noticed batt still 100%.

when i reached office, my batt was at 90% - about 9am. then stayed at 90% until noon. after prayers, went back to office and noticed it dropped to 60%.

so i tried to google, and some forums said, switch off hsdpa and so on. did that, and on the way back home batt was still 60%. then i needed GPS, used it for about half an hour or so, and after first usage, dropped to 40%.

then now, after buka, it dropped to 20%.

troughout the day, just made sms, snapped 1-2 photos, answered calls.

i'm running S2U2, and SPB shell. Firmware is G4.

is this normal, or is it because my batt still new and i still need to 'overcharge' it?

glad for all the help and advice guys! notworthy.gif

dude...the total 40 mins of GPS explains it all......i would expect that battery life if u use GPS....use this as a guide....45 mins of GPS, or 1 hour of movie watching is roughly equal to 1 day of standby with moderate calls and sms. ( based on my G3 firmware - lasts 4 days with moderate calls and sms)
*
yeah, that's what i thought so at first...but just to make sure what i thought was correct. smile.gif

first time using PDA and GPS, so wouldn't know what to expect.

anyway, thanks for the response! appreciate it much. smile.gif

ok now this is disturbing me a bit.

i charged my phone this noon. while switched off. at abt 4 pm i guess, the led turned green.

so i switched on, and i just used mainly sms. just browsed through some images, that's all. no GPS, not even camera, nothing. just sms.

now at 1031PM, batt is at 60%. i think that's unusually fast right? for me to do nothing, but just sms?

anyone can comment on this?

again:

FW: G4

Installed SPB shell 2.1.1, S2U2 plugin.

please advise....really worried my battery got problem. sad.gif

how long should i charge the phone actually? kinda funny cos compared to some of you guys who say can last up to 3 days on minimal use.

hmm...that is wierd.....but i guess it has something to do with the firmware version.....i have excellent battery with the G3 firmware...

How long does it take u to full charge by the way? till the led turns green from empty?
Mine takes about 3-4 hours...

Added on September 13, 2008, 11:49 pm

simple.......

for all WM phones....the ring tone depends on your PHONE volume
the sms tone depends on your PDA volume.

Note when u toggle the volume rocker, there are two sliders? just put the pda slider to match your phone slider and the ring tones for the phone and the sms will be at the same volume.

i just read around about SPB shell draining batteries. some are ok, some have probs.

so i disabled auto weather updates from spb mobile, disabled bluetooth. so i'll see if it can last till tomorrow.

*fingers crossed*

abt the FW, i read almost everywhere saying G4 is stable and no batt issues. only some with H3 have batt issues.

the last resort is try to uninstall SPB and see if it makes a difference. i love the spb actually, so..kinda sayang wanna uninstall it. tongue.gif

hi guys,

if i were to DIY upgrade, what will be wiped out?

i read before, use PIMBackup to backup data and all. ok, that i understand. What about stuff you saved in your storage? e.g. images, music, and stuff...will it wipe out as well?

thanks notworthy.gif

Hi all! I've just registered for this forum. I find this forum very interesting and informative, with helpful members. smile.gif

On 31 Aug, I became a proud owner of Omnia. Upgraded firmware on own to H1 (both pda & phone) & installed Garmin Mobile XT.

I'm wondering if anyone can lend some advice... I've been having trouble getting a satellite signal. 1st time I got the signal, after Enabling Enhanced GPS. Subsequently, I got the signal almost instantenously. But that only worked a few times. Most of the time, I can't any signal. Am wondering is it because the sky is cloudy?? Couldn't get it while in the car, so I wound down the window and got a signal. Stood out in the open yesterday and couldn't get a signal. This is frustrating.

Current programs & hardware ports: COM3 & COM 9 respectively. Baud rate: 4800.

Thanks!!
*
hi claire, welcome to this forum and welcome to the Omnia club. I'm a newbie myself, but let me try to help.

What GPS software are you using?

I'm using Garmin XT, and I've enabled enhanced GPS. Set my software to COM8, hardware to COM 9 and Baud rate to 9600.

Just made sure my area had good/strong 3G signal, and when i start up Garmin, the bar went full green. Located my position in under 1 minute.

If you're using MapKing, Make sure your Port Splitter settings are correct. Anyone with Mapking could help you, as I've never used MapKing before.

hope this helps! smile.gif

what are the chances of frying/bricking the phone when DIY upgrading?

i mean, if i follow natzakaria/ maks_pain's guide, should go well yes?

oh, i know storage won't be wiped out (e.g. images, music, etc)..but for the installed software, the only way is to manually backup installers right? then re-install all software?

sorry ah newb question. i really want to try H3, but want to do it properly. tongue.gif

Updates on batt life...

Used GPS for 1 hour just now...now left 3 bars...GOSH!!! Things are just getting better and better!

Forgot to mention in earlier post...I listened to half and hour music and played few video clips...through internal speakers and not headset....before using GPS just now... thumbup.gif

cool. i'm gonna wait till my phone fully charged, and upgrade to H3. wish me luck guys.

I'm downloading G4 just in case sumthing happens, touch wood.

anyway, it doesn't matter if i upgrade with sim inside, or should i take out the sim?

plus, any good software for me to backup data other than PIMBackup?

thanks! sweat.gif

i'm experiencing disconnection from active sync on my laptop.

i'm on winXP, and when i connect, it detects, and when i click next to synchronize, it freezes, and then it disconnects. why eh? rclxub.gif

edit: i think found the prob. i disabled power saving (backlight turning off, etc) and while connected, i soft reset. now able to synch.

ok battery update post HH3 upgrade:

QUOTE
successfully upgraded, hard reset at 12AM

transferred contacts via bluetooth for about 15 -20 minutes.

woke up at 6AM still 100%

listened to music for about 40 minutes to work, reached work at 810, still 100%.

sms only, and playing some settings. at about 10am dropped to 80%.

at abt 11am, dropped to 60%.

at about 130 - 2PM, suddenly dropped to 40%. played video for 2 minutes to try, took quite a lot of photos.

stayed at 40% till 4PM.

otw back, popped open media player, played music, immediately got low battery signal - 20%.

ignored it, and listened to music non stop for about 1 hour.

now still 20%.

it seems that the battery is kinda better, with moderate usage of music and camera at least.

read on some forums that the battery needs to be fully charged for a few cycles to be at its optimal state. dunno how far this is true, but we'll see.

all in all, H3 is awesome, the finger slide menus are better, haptic feedback is good.

just one question though: why is it that when i 'X' any program, when i check it in task mgr, it's still there albeit not using up CPU?

hmm.gif

isnt that a hardware reset? i thought the soft reset was the one on the spb shell.....

sorry....little confused on this bit
*
the small button on the top is soft reset. use your stylus. u can also soft reset via spb like u mentioned.

anyways, battery update time!

guys, after my third full charge cycle, i think the battery seems to be better!

after upgrading to HH3 + hard reset, my battery dropped in 20% increments. yesterday battery went to 10% at night.

today, i'm still at 40% since 2PM!

BUT:

i finished charge at abt 12AM like usual, and slept. woke up, still 100% - so this throws out the possibility of SPB/S2u2 draining battery while idle.

used sms, a few more calls, a lot of camera usage, video editing, even 10-15 minutes of movie watching, and i'm still at 40% now!

to me, great improvement already!

oh and when using SPB, don't rely on the batt indicator..it's a bit buggy. yesterday, i charged it for after 3 hours, the indicator still showing 30%. but i switched off the charger, and the batt level was actually up to 70% already.

always look at the Power LED indicator on the phone to know when is the phone fully charged.

Plus, for those using SPB mobile and S2U2, ALWAYS use the power off feature. I set mine to power off (sleep/blank screen) after 5 seconds and that could be a factor contributing to the better power consumption.

cheers! i'm loving my H3!! smile.gif
