Welcome to Art Gallery!

Rules
1) No nudes, tasteful or otherwise
2) No controversial/antisocial posts that go against LYN R&R
3) Please include artist's name, and title/year (where possible)
4) Include your own synopsis (where possible)

Lets try to enjoy a Good Thing.

I'll start with Still Life:

Paul Cézanne. Still-life with Apples (Nature morte. Les Pommes). c. 1890. Oil on canvas.

Cezanne's works have drawn controversy over purists who claim his distortion of perspectives, while subtle, where beyond logic and did not truly qualify as "quality" still art. Nevertheless, "Still-Life with Apples" is a favourite among many...

Impressionist. I love the brush strokes, I love how unbalanced the painting looks. I love the background.

Vincent van Gogh. Self-Portrait in a Grey Felt Hat. 1887. Oil on card.

Van Gogh. This is my favourite of many self portraits. I really feel the energy from this piece of work.

Well due to the fact that this is a nude painting, here is an alternative representation of the Three Graces, by Leon Washington. You should really check out the original

Peter Paul Rubens. Portrait of Susanne Fourment ("Le Chapeau de paille"). c.1625. Oil on panel

17th century painter, Rubens, focus more on religious paintings. Here's a sample of his work. For that time i felt that there was pretty good detail in his works... just, beautiful.

A slight departure from the realm of painters, I present French architect Boulle:

Étienne-Louis Boullée, Deuxieme projet pour la Bibliotheque du Rois , c.1785

The architect was "featured" in Peter Greenaway's movie, "The Belly of an Architect". Great movie, i might add.

Artist's Comments
A popular tourist attraction of the region, the biting pear lives off low-flying birds, hand-outs, and the occasional unwary sightseer.

----
Don't look at me. I was reading up on pop surrealism before bed, and this is the sort of thing that happens. Even for me, that's a little disturbing.

Also, I may have an unhealthy obsession with pears. This is particularly odd because I haven't eaten a pear in years.

NOTE FOR 4CHAN AND ALL THE REST:

Yes. I know. LOL WUT. Yes, yes. I'm aware. Really, I don't mind that y'all are havin' fun with the image*, the internet is a very silly place and all, but if you could make an effort to include a link to the original when you're posting it, I'd be really grateful.

Thanks!

Anyway! Digital, prints available for $10 and $20 plus shipping--visit [link] or send a note if interested!

If you would like to buy the OFFICIAL, LICENSED, ARTIST-APPROVED pear merchandise--t-shirts, prints, magnets, tote bags, keychains, the lot--mosey on over to [link] for all your biting pear needs.

*As long as it's noncommercial and nobody's making money on lolwut merchandise, of course.

QUOTE
Artist's Comments
...And then there was a great flash, as of a thousand suns, and the very air itself seemed to burn golden, and a sound came, like the ringing of a thousand golden trumpets, and the squirrel saw before him a being, one of the Great Lords of Fruit, bewing'd and halo'd, one of the mighty pearaphim, the vegetative pillars of heaven. And the pearaph spoke, in a voice both sweet as sweetened fruit juice* and brazen as great metal shields crashing together, and what it said was "FEAR NOT, BRIEF MORTAL--!"

And the squirrel fell backwards in astonishment, for he was sore afraid, and more importantly, very weirded out by the whole thing.

---
I have no explanation whatsoever, except that as usual, it seemed like a good idea. If you want to find a meaning in this, go for it, but it's all you. I have none whatsoever. Even the pun came after the sketch.

Prints available! We have $10 small and $20 jumbo, plus shipping--drop a line or visit [link] to set that up. Great Christmas gifts! Or at least, really WEIRD Christmas gifts, and isn't that just as good?

*Made from concentrate. We're on a budget here, people.

That's quite a bright candle you have there tongue.gif
Did you have the actual "still-life" setup when you painted it?
I was just wondering how the glasses would look with the candle as light source...

The first one is interesting, demonstrating the strength of the darkness the trees hold,
as the light quickly diminishes upon reaching the trees/subjects...

So is it titled "There is only darkness before me" biggrin.gif

Kinkade. Genius painter, his works are those where the lighting effect varies with the strength of the spotlight shining at it. You can actually go see some reproductions at the Kinkade Gallery in One Utama New Wing.
