does the N85 comes with a TRIAL for Nokia maps voice navigation. If got, how to activate the trial ?

I have garmin mobile XT installed, but i find scrolling through the map is faster with Nokia Maps, so just wanted to try out the Nokia Maps voice navigation.

Ahh that's a shame to hear. On my previous n82, i'd *ahemed* my n-gage and could play every game! Awesome stuff. I HOPE that we can still use garmin on it? Most themes available for the n85 on download sites are usually signed right?

Should i perform the *#7320# soft reset the moment i get my phone? To prevent any certificate error from occurring?
*
yah... u can still use Garmin on it. thumbup.gif rclxm9.gif

QUOTE(Vint @ Jan 19 2009, 10:09 PM)
hey i wanna ask, how long roughly does it takes for you guys to get adequate signal from the satellite for the first time?
*
Depends whether you have A-GPS on or not and are you within range of 3G services. With A-GPS can get a lock less then a minute sometimes.
If you just depend on the internal GPS, then a lock can take from within 3 minutes to even longer. If you are in a moving vehicle sometimes almost impossible to get a lock.

As usual weather, terrain and enclosed area will affect how fast you can get a sattelite lock. Another thing I notice which affect it is also how long since you last turned on the GPS. If you just turned it on get a lock, then later turn it off, if few minutes later you want to use the GPS again, it gets a lock faster if you say did not use it the whole night.

Vint, is your 3G setting correct ? Also is your A-GPS on ?
I assume you are doing it outdoor right ? tongue.gif

Also please verify if you are getting satellite signals using the phone built in system first before u try with Garmin.

Tools --> Connectivity --> GPS Data

Press options and select satellite status, must get blue bars for satellite lock.

yup..everything is right

yea but when i check the gps data, there's no blue bar even after i waited half an hour while traveling in the car..
but when i reach penang bridge, suddenly there's 1 coloured bar i think...then dissappear after that..

and the shop guy said maybe i need to update my firmware..really no idea..
*
aiyoh... no wonder la.... i've already gave advice in earlier post that in a fast traveling vehicle very hard to get satellite lock unless you got a satellite lock earlier. see this is what happens when you don't follow expert advice... mad.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif laugh.gif

Try to stand still under an open sky.

tongue.gif haha...ok..means i gotta make sure it's being locked before i start my journey lo rite.. smile.gif
*
this is to check if your GPS got problem or not.... if you cannot get a lock standing still under open sky then for sure cannot get lock in moving vehicle.

^thanks biggrin.gif

btw, i see the box it says free 1 month of navigation (or something) is this the AGPS ar?
*
aiyoh... that's the Nokia Maps la... if you want voice navigation using Nokia Maps (the built in navigation software in ur phone) then u need to pay after that one month free trial.

So most of us using Garmin XT, the better and free alternative to Nokia Maps.

I see a lot of confusion here, this is to clarify for the blur blur sotongs and noobs here...

GPS (also known as integrated GPS) = this is the hardware on your phone being able to receive position information from the GPS satellites.

A-GPS = assisted GPS, also hardware based, being able to use information from ur network provider (maxis, digi, celcom, etc) base stations via 3G/gprs to assist (hence the name) for ur gps to get faster satellite lock.

Nokia Maps = software in the phone which interface with the gps chip (hardware) in your phone for location and navigation purposes.

Garmin XT = 3rd party software, free and better .. rclxms.gif rclxm9.gif thumbup.gif

So both hardware and software work together.... do not confuse one with the other. Using your PC as an example Windows / Linux /Mac DOES NOT EQUAL Intel/AMD
