yes, it's best to have garmin xt v4 installed instead of v5 since the cardrunner.dll will be draining battery alot.
*
the garminxt v4 program itself consumes lower power and v5 uses more batt power

or you can try to rename those two file located

\sys\bin\CardRunner.dll
\resource\plugins\CardRunner.RSC

using mass storage mode through your computer
*
if for v5 i heard that even if the cardrunner file is turned off the silent app will run in the background if you open it once. then maybe need to restart phone.

im very cautious about my HP batt life, cause it's important and want my phone to last as long as it should. so i removed the pesky garminXT

yes i read some one complain that TSRAutostart.exe will run in the background even if you deleted/rename cardrunner after using garmin.

deleted/rename cardrunner only prevent TSRAutostart.exe from running as soon as you start you phone even you did not run garmin at all.

you can try to using Best Taskman/Handy Taskman to stop the TSRAutostart.exe from running after you used garmin.
*
handy taskman is a simple program and can't read processes and TSRAutostart.exe is a hidden process and can't be seen by handy taskman. use jbak taskman. but keep in mind that garmin might also leave traces of it's program running in the background other than TSR.exe

oh so means it's better for me to format my memory card and hard reset first before sending for a firmware upgrade?

i prefer to make sure everything is clean as new after firmware update, so will another hard reset after that harm my phone??
*
your n85 is ori right? you don't have to send it to nokia care to upgrade the firmware. u can do it yourself.

but if you have ori n85 and want to change to other product codes such as EURO or others make sure u use nemesis and write down the original product code.
1. Write down ori product code
2. Change product code to euro or whatever code u want (using nemesis service suite)
3. Update with nokia software updater
4. After finish upgrade, change the product code again to the original one.
5. This will make sure that your warranty is still valid

(if like n95 8gb, only EURO firmware can disable camera shutter sound & can take silent pictures) thumbup.gif

Well, i think newer firmwares doesn't turn off the camera shutter anymore right?
*
half correct...newer firmware that isn't EURO fw.

current EURO firmware can still turn off the camera shutter sound.

The older firmwares can turn off the camera shutter?

i though only crack phone can?
*
yes, it depends on what country code u have. some older firmwares can turn off the camera shutter sound by turning off Warning sound in selected Profiles putting it in Silent Mode or a combination of both.

nope..mine is ap set..i think it's easier for me to send it bac to the shop where i bought..
i tried to update myself but not working..

but at the moment, CNY is the most important thing out of all..haha biggrin.gif
*
for me i don't really trust shops in terms of software upgrading. when i bought my phone i had the latest malaysian firmware but later when i re-installed the firmware it was not malaysian because the country code isn't. i don't know how the heck did the shop update my firmware to malaysian without changing product codes. i think they just flashed it.

so i change it myself and update it myself..and very satisfied with it.

I got questions for all you experts out there:

I have the N85 NAM (United States Version), with the 3G that is different than Europe, and Asia.

I know I can I get Chinese text onto my phone by using phoenix software update with APAC firmware, but:

If I install the APAC firmware, would that mess up the 3G that I have?

I want to be able to display/write Chinese text.  I know psiloc.localization has chinese software, but I can't install unsigned/cracked software also.... any help?

Thanks!
*
From what i can understand, u are using the phone in the US and still want to make sure u have the 3g connection right?
I don't have a real answer here but rather a test to make sure your phone can read chinese with 3g still enabled.

1. Change product codes and update to APAC firmware (make sure u write down your original product code)
2. Then get a new 3g setting downloaded to your phone and make it as the default setting just to make sure.
3. Then try to use the 3g connection.

Because in my opinion the 3g settings are the determining factor in using 3g.

if u really can't use 3g, then change to original product code and update the firmware again to the US fw.

i dont think you can update the same version of firmware twice even with different regional code on unhackab;e N85.

because last time i did try to flash my to APAC with same firmware from EURO and pheonix said it is impossible.
*
IF it is the same as with n81 or n95 8gb, you can change product codes and update firmware again.

what i mean is that you change the product codes, then use nokia software updater NSU and RE-INSTALL the current available firmware. wallah, a new firmware based on whatever product code u have.

and i don't use phoenix. i use Nemesis Service Suite (NSS) to change the product code and i use Nokia Software Updater (NSU) to update/install the firmware.

i don't use phoenix because i don't trust it.

@[][][][][] did u try to ahem2 it yet
