If you do not want the wall, just tell him to build half the wall on his side only.
Instead of 1 brick, split the brick right in the center... tongue.gif

IMHO, u better seek some professional advice to see if he has a stand in demanding you to share the wall cost. Cz if you do not want the wall and he wants it, i dun see any reason why you should pay for it. Jz my 2 cents.

Btw, wrong section lar dude.
This section is for LYN Trade Dispute...

Is your neighbour trying to extend the back part of his house?

I would think that you dont need to pay if you are not extending your house.

The walls between 2 houses is 2 bricks. If rooms itself inside a house is only 1 brick.

So if ur neighbour is extending, den he should be extending only 1 bricks of wall.

But be careful, dun let him extends to the brick wall of your part. He will get a bigger place and u will get ur same size.

@WPC2002,
Ur neighbour probably is asking U to share some of the cost; if U don't, he might not do the wall. If he does the wall then it's on his own budget.

U can probably tell him Ur quite alright without the wall or if U do want the wall, or be neighbourly U can always just tell him U don't mind contributing RMX.

How much has he asked for the wall?

It's Depend On You Want To Baar For Part..

If You Bear, Both Relationship Will Be Good smile.gif

If You Reject Him, Your Neighboor Will Think That You're Stingy Enough..
Relationship Sure ....

If You Ask Me, Yes.. I Will Bear For It.. Only Few Hundred smile.gif

i think it cannot be a few hundred. after building the wall, no need to plaster and paint meh ?? TS, as suggested above, it very much depends on whether you want 1 brick thick or 2. If 2, noise from either side will be less apparent compared to 1 brick thick.
cost also depends on your wall height, for 1 storey or 2 or 2.5 storey.

@WPC2002,
If U think U can do without the wall and don't want it then tell ur neighbour U don't want to spend the unnecessary $. Tell him ur sorry but RM5k seems to be a bit too much. If U want, U could counter offer another figure and leave it to ur neighbour whether he's going to build the wall or not.

But if U do pay him, he needs to make sure the wall is built tongue.gif

As i said, your neighbour can proceed building the wall without requesting anything from u. He can just built the current 1 brick from his side of the wall...

But maybe he is asking because if the contractor do both of the house, he will quote a cheaper price as compare to a single house extension price * 2

Lets say ur NB extends his house, RM5K. After he extends, u also wan to extends. den u fork out RM5K.

But if both of u extends together rite now, maybe the RM10 can become RM8K so each only RM4K? Example.

But if u think that u dun have that kind of $$$ rite now for extension, den u can ask ur NB to extend his part of wall first.

@zyrl,
I don't think it's viable to build 'half' a wall!! Might as well forget about even building it tongue.gif

Plus it'll be such an eyesore on the 'undone' part.

from wat i understand of TS post, i think that his NB is trying to extend the back part of their house (like my picture). So it is not like 'half' a wall. It is normal in housing neighbourhood. Not all ppl will extend thier house all the way to the back. Some will some wont. So u will see like this

Attached Image

So its not like everyone is compulsory to build it IF their NB wants to extend theirs

30 (4) ft ? i think your measurement is a bit weird. 30 ft refer to long ? only 4 feet height ?

120 ft wall for 5 grand is much overpriced.

secondly, i dont think there will be double layer brick on any residential house. very very rare.

Thirdly, sometimes, to share a wall with your neighbour is a common thing. if u really dont need it, just tell them and leave the plastering work and painting work aside. perhaps, u can do it some other time.

lastly, there will be no such thing as doing half on your side.
