Hi guys, first and foremost I would like to thank for the information in this thread. I have just graduated as an IB Diploma student and very interested to go for law in Australia for my undergraduate degree. As it is said on first page, in order to sit for the CLP examination in Malaysia after graduation, SPM and STPM qualifications or equivalent are required. However, since I left Malaysia 4 years ago and just graduated from an American-syallbus international school 1 month ago, I had never taken SPM or it's equivalent such as O-levels. Meanwhile, I am unsure whether or not my IB Diploma is considered as an equivalent for STPM or A-levels, although in most universities it should be. Does that mean I've failed to meet the pre-conditions and hence will not be eligible for the CLP examination after I graduate? If so, is there other ways for me to take the CLP exam in the future? I apologise if any of the questions above have been asked before. Any advise is welcome.

Thanks in advance!

According to the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA). The International Baccalaureate Diploma is an equivalent to STPM/A-Levels.

Hi there, thank you for your help (for the second time hehe). So if MQA considers IB Diploma as an equivalent to STPM, it basically means that I earned my STPM directly without taking SPM or O-levels. Does anybody know if SPM or its equivalent is required for CLP exam as well or STPM (in my case IB Diploma) alone would be fine without taking the SPM?

You need SPM/O levels equivalent. That part of the requirements is not to be read disjunctively.

Thanks for the reply. It's a shame that my dream could be shattered simply because I do not have a SPM or equivalent degree despite the fact that I've earned a degree equivalent to STPM already. I might have to think of an alternative now.

u said u did the american syllabus right...sorry for my ignorance, but what is their o level equivalent? grade 12?
*
erm.. I just graduated from grade 12 with a High School Diploma equivalent to American High School Diploma from the school itself, according to the PDF document attached by Hikari0307 down there it is equivalent to SPM in Malaysia. Meanwhile at the same time I already got my IB Diploma results last week and will earn the certificate in 2 months. Since it is equivalent to STPM, it means that I've earned both my SPM and STPM in 2 months, hence I already fulfilled both the requirements. A huge relief here. I was even looking at the British Council for GCSE! Thanks for help!

So their SPM equivalent should be Grade 12 I guess?
Here's the Full list of SPM and STPM Equivalents as determined by the MQA

recognition of any qualification for CLP purposes is by the LPQB, not the MQA. Though it is likely that the LPQB will follow the MQA, only a formal confirmation that the LPQB does so should be considered. Hence, send an email to the LPQB to ask whether your qualifications satisfy the requirements and do inform us...
Hi there, i'll post it here once i get the answer. however, i dunno if it is just me but I wasn't able to find LQPB email. anyone know their email or is there anyone else i can contact? not sure if malaysian bar would help. do advise if possible.

Skype, get a friend to call or wait till you come back.

:-)

Also, email + Government or Statutory Body = not a very good combination.

However, email + Inland Revenue Board = a better combination than the rest.
You should not contact anyone else because although both the Malaysian Bar and the Qualifying Board are statutory bodies created by the same statute, their respective duties and powers are different. Stick with the Qualifying Board and you'll do fine.
