Hi everyone,

I heard from a friend that MMU Melaka is offering 4yrs LLB course which is similar to the one in gov unis - which means you are exempted from CLP after your LLB.

How true is that? And if yes, is it recognized by the Qualifying Board?

What is BE & BC?

Made a call to MMU today and I was told that the Qualifying Board have inspected their courses on Sept 08 and now are awaiting confirmation to see if able to exempt the CLP examination.

If that materializes, then I will move there immediately biggrin.gif

how does the pay for a lawyer??
how far can salary goes up??
how far can u go as a lawyer??
does lawyer in malaysia have high pay??
and their work time??

This is my personal view on the current situation, please take it with a grain of salt.

There is an access of lawyers in Malaysia.
For a junior lawyer, do not expect high salary.
If you work with a firm, expect to work in a miserable condition and you will often be abused by the senior lawyers.
If you open a firm, you will face fierce competition in the already overpopulated legal market.
Of course we often see those BIG cars with the BAR crest on it. I believe it takes no less than 20 years to achieve that.

At the end of the day, it all depends on how popular you are and your ability to win cases smile.gif

Bar Course, Bar Exam?

Well, isnt that the new thing they want to replace CLP with ? As for MMU, their 1st graduates already out for...erm like half a year and they has yet to receive recognization...How long should you be waiting? The qualification and confirmation might take ages of time. Why dont you consider other colleges at the meantime? They might failed to get the qualification...  tongue.gif
P.s: Anyone familiar with UK Twinning ? Got some questions here unsure.gif
*
Well as per my conversation with the councilor, she said the application was submitted on Sept 08 and awaiting confirmation.
Perhaps it would take ages, or perhaps it can be known this year itself, nobody knows.

I am with Penang ATC right now. I have heard many stories about people failing the CLP exams, some up to 7 times. shocking.gif
I personally have a friend who have failed 3 times, and he is a bright student. I feel it is bias as those from gov unis are exempted from it.

I have found that apart from gov unis, NUS is exempted from CLP as well. Can anyone confirm this?

Why exampt local graduates from CLP?
NUS exempted from CLP 1
NUS exempted from CLP 2

So, taking A level now or LLB 1st year? I heard if you are going for MMU, you need to start over from foundation(albeit you passed A level)

And yes, NUS is exempted from CLP.But the percentage of getting into NUS is like... 1%?Unless your results are superbly good cos it's too competitive.

It's recognized by Bar, so you can take BVC after external.

Anyway, alsree, did you ever heard of the 12 dinner for BVC? unsure.gif

I am in Yr 1 LLB. Just started in Jan 09. So starting over in MMU is no problem for me biggrin.gif

i am doing a 2+1, currently in my year2.

i wana ask whether choosing an U in my final year is it decisive for employment in future?

in other words is reputation of an U that important for an employer to look at??
*
If you are studying at BAC, I believe they will advise you on which uni to go to.

In my personal opinion, which uni you graduate from is not important, what is important is your ability to win cases.

But if I am an employer, I will definitely prefer a UOL grad.

Why you prefer a UOL grad then?
*
This is my personal opinion only (take it with a grain of salt)

In the shoe of an employer, comparing the list of unis offered in 2+1 programs,

1) UOL has a higher reputation
2) UOL is harder to get through

But this does not mean that a UOL grad is more superior than his counterparts.

When it comes to winning cases, it all depends on his/her ingenuity. smile.gif

If money you do not have, then you must consider the several options:
- UOL 3+0 course
- PTPTN & Bank Loans

A better option is you may consider NUS since your hoping to work in Sg.
Best of all, NUS grad is exempted from CLP. biggrin.gif

thx for ur reply...i has been consider NUS and SMU b4..but even i take grand i will face financial problem too..so tat i have no hope...
is ter any scholarship except the start edu fund..still got other?
hu r studying UOL 1?which college have gud environment to study it?
*
If you have good SPM and A levels results, then you can try apply for Asean Scholarships, The Star, MCA or bank loans. But the best is you get PTPTN.
If you really cannot afford it, then you should forget about 2+1 and go UOL 3+0. Do not burden yourself and your parents.

IMHO, college environment doesn't really matter much.
Most importantly are the lecturers and yourself; your determination, will power and desire to succeed. smile.gif

hi i'm considering studying law..
i'm good in english and reading and writing but i'm doubtful bout my choice in studying law because i'm a very shy person and i don't like to argue.
so oral is not my strong point..

any advice on what skills the person should have when taking up a law degree?
anyone planning to study law at taylors or help??
*
You may choose not to go litigation after graduation.

But I feel that after 3 years of learning and intensive training, you will gradually learn to articulate and to argue your point.

Got a question,

I am now in UOL Intermediate. Assuming I want to switch to 2+1 at BAC for my Part 1 onwards, is that possible, and am I exempted from any subjects?

Hi guys, I have a question. I hope you can assist me.

Currently I am doing UOL Inter - exams will be on May 2010.

I am considering to switch to University of Melbourne after my Inter.

I have checked that Aust subjects are different from UK.

Am I able to get subjects exemption from the Aussie U?

Thks
