i) yes, u will have to do the clp again when u return in malaysia

ii) to be a qualified lawyer in aussieland, u need to complete an llb covering the priestly 11, if u did not, u must get an assessment and complete the relevant subjects. i reckon aussie llbs probably cover the priestly so u shudn't have a prob...

ii) then u have to decide whether u want to be a barrister or a solicitor and in which state...

iii) having decided that, u will have to sit for a relevant exam for that particular state depending on which route u take...

iv) chambering then follows.

cant give specifics coz the practice differs for the states...

what uk prog are u talking about? a diploma/a levels or a degree then request for transfer of credits?

Got a question,

I am now in UOL Intermediate. Assuming I want to switch to 2+1 at BAC for my Part 1 onwards, is that possible, and am I exempted from any subjects?

of course u can change college ler...and yes, you should be able to switch to the 2+1 UK Transfer degree programme. But there is no exemptions sleep.gif what is there to be exempted of? it's still practically the same as in u have 4 compulsory subjects in inter, 3 compulsory +1 optional in Part 1 and 1 compulsory + 3 optional in Part 2. Whether u r taking Scheme A or B also in total u gotta take up 12subjects. Correct me if i'm wrong xD

Exemptions i think when u take ur Masters, then u'll be exempted if u fall within the selected degrees eg. degree in law, accounting etc

total duration to become a solicitor in victoria would be

4 years for degree (generally)
about 10 mths for practical cert
18 mths for supervised practice (akin somewhat to chambering)

total that up

i hope i didn't miss out anything

yes for both schemes a student is required to take 12 subjects, but it'll be different for scheme B and im not sure how transfer of credits work for for that scheme. even if allowed they will probably have to re do papers...most are on A anyway...

Just to answer ur ques...
I finished my form 6 stpm with 2A n 2C(ya it doesnt look like a 'prospective law students results', I KNOW)
yes i intend to practice.
And I do have the funds to go to UK but I donno if I should do a credit transfer...or just finish my external here and then only do my BVC there. In any case I wish to go to UK hahaha...as for the UK unis, I aim for cardiff or exeter. Manchester wont accept my horrible stpm results:(

So what are the pros and cons then? cry.gif

your results are not good enough to enter the better unis in uk for law, and yes even if u do a twinning manchester does require 3 A's, tho i was once told 2 A's and a B would also do it. I guess if it was 3 A's all it does for a student is to save one year of costs....better clarify with the college, my info on this is what i found out 3 years ago...

Well, if u think you'll do well with law, for you, i suggest taking a twinning prog and get into cardiff. since funds are not a problem, it writes off a big pro of the uol external. furthermore, since cardiff offers the bvc, would be good for you to head there since, as what i've heard, they tend to give preference to their own students due to the small sized intakes. But of course results are paramount. I've recently met someone who (trying not to be mean) made me think that getting a place isn't that hard after all...but the uni life would be a nice experience and since u wanna go to the UK, the twinning programme sounds like a better route for you. Go to Inti and Help and check them out...

*sigh* okay, im sorry for the wrong term. when u do a dtp, yes they will consider pre u results in addition to internal exam results. which carries more weight? presumably internal exam results since they are part of the prog. there also may be quotas. speak to the college reps.

There is exam after your LLB. There is either a 'chambering' period or a practical training course, depending on the state. Neither have exams.

See above. Its either practical cert or supervised practice. It takes about 10 months in VIC, about 6 months in NSW.

If you did your degree in the UK, you will need to do 5-6 subjects in an Australian university before being eligible for the practical cert.

thanks for clarifying about the practical training...but i wished it was 5-6 subjects tho of course it varies depending on the course syllabus. I was quite surprised when i was informed by a Uni rep in Brisbane that UOL Law grads (syllabus similar for ext and int syllabus) have to do 10 to 11 subjects. I've always wondered whether the assessment would differ from state to state, but it may be a costly exercise for me to surpress that curiosity. Seriously made me reconsider practicing in Australia.
