So I assume those engineers that you met that switched to law will only start their legal career around 27 or 28 too ? are they coping well ?
*
yes they are. i also know a pupil who did ICSA previously, another was an air stewardess. they both started at 28 and 29 respectively. Both are good pupils.

ok ok then it is my job to correct you , i dont think my post was unclear at all ? it's your way of view which is wrong or not up to date for i can rebuke you with this http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?act=ST&f...0#entry47513482

none questioned me as you did ?

I actually agree with solstice, tho maybe in a differing tone. What is "Taylor (cpu) then brickfields then U of london"? And besides, your link above refers to a different thread.

Hey guys! I've just finished my A-Levels this Oct & I wish that I can pass so that I can study law in the future. rclxms.gif  I'm very hesitating about which Uni should I proceed to when my result is out. I've already cancelled out Taylor & Help, I'm left with KDU/ATC/Inti. I studied my A-Levels in ATC  & I think it's a good school but I feel like changing into a new environment & study in KL instead. I know that all unis are good but the difference is whether taking UOL or UK twinning/ degree transfer. My dad could send me to UK at the 3rd year if I really want to but it is really worth to spend that 100K ? I still need to sit for CLP after coming back from UK, but what if I cant pass my CLP = cannot get the title, I'll waste that 100K. That's why my dad said why not taking the UOL (3 years local) & sit for CLP then BAR at UK. If fail CLP also didn't waste so much money since I study 3 years in local. Safer.

So  rclxub.gif . UOL programme is so hard man + need 2:1 to sit for CLP. Sigh. What should I do ? 2+1/3+0 ?  hmm.gif

Thanks for the help  smile.gif
*
good option for you would be UOL + Bar since you're concerned with spending RM100k on that extra bit of exposure. I did the CLP. It's a waste of time. You don't get much from it that you can't just take a book and read when it matters. Although I never intended to enter advocacy, if I had the chance to turn back the clock, I would have gone for the then bvc just for the exposure.

wah so hard ah ?  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif HAIH. thanks ya. anyway, is KDU UOL course good ?
*
err. what's so hard? Not sure about KDU though. If you want to do UOL, i'll still recommend either ATC or BAC.

A 2:1 is more important because for Law, it's a profession with a lot of barriers and post-graduate qualifications are necessary (think Accountants, Actuaries, Doctors). What that means is if you don't have a 2:1 you won't get a career in Law, whether you attended LSE or Cardiff.
*
Well, without a 2:1 (second upper), it would be difficult to get into the top firms. Won't kill your career in law tho. You can still get into a good firm and succeed in practice and make a name for yourself without a 2:1 provided u read law in a good uni and appear good enough at your interviews. Top firms, in their attempt to screen candidates, will always prefer 2:1 holders and above from reputable unis.

Yes. You'll get paid about $2k. But there's little career advancement to speak of. You don't want to be a paralegal forever right?
*
Ya, SGD 2k is about right. Big difference considering some are paid somewhere around SGD5k for first year. (non international firms)

I know this is an age-old question, but is there a 'quota' system for CLP, because I have seen quite a number of my 2:1 seniors who did very well for the UOL system ended up with only a conditional pass and those are are mediocre ended up getting through CLP. Besides, a part of me feels that the legal industry in Malaysia is rather exploited. I don't mean to offend anyone and if I did, I humbly apologise for it.

Let's just say if I intend to pursue a job in a corporate line like a legal department in mnc, is CLP going to be of any use or is it merely a piece of paper?
*
I personally dun think there is a quota system for the CLP.

CLP is of very little use if you dun subsequentliy complete pupillage. CLP has little weight on its own.

Hi
I thought to be admit to the bar one person will only need to fulfill one of the three whichever applicable? I am not sure in this ( anyone please correct me if I'm wrong). Since I am have been called to the English bar by that time, and I have fullfil the clause " is a barrister-at-law of England ". It's kind of confusing right?

You know what, at first I actually approach to malaysia bar and they are the one who requested me to the qualifying board and yet, they are unable to give me a firm answer. Kind of disappointed to the.
Cheers
*
yes. just one of the either (a) (b) or ©. if you fulfil (b), you're a qualified person. do note the bm exam requirement though for admission. Speak to lpqb, the Bar dont usually deal with these matters unless you find a friendly officer in there who has the time.

So, potentially, I can go to the crappiest university in the UK, do the BTPC, and get called to the Malaysian bar. Renders the list of qualified universities quite pointless.
*
this is then questioning the entry requirements for the BPTC. Assumptions are made that gaining a spot to tackle the BPTC and then getting thru is sufficient for you to be deemed good enough to handle practice. What then of the graduates of certain local unis?

Shook Lin & Bok is it a good place to chamber? How fruitful is it? Except Good Result what else?

Skrine & Co, Lee Hishamudin, Soo Tien Ming and Shook Lin & Bok. These are the big firm I heard before.

Except Good Result, what else I need to have to compete against so many student to enter these firms.

Great! I found an answer. Does law firm attend career fair like other company too? Doubtful with it. Mind showing me direction.
*
What makes a good firm does not necessarily equate to that firm being a good place for your pupillage...

*
haha, could have pm'ed me her name...but if you say lady, then I already know who. I work in a somewhat new mid sized law firm. Don't really want to disclose where I work either but there's a sufficient hint in there for u.

Many people including lawyers are saying that it is no longer a noble neither good one to enter into. hence, the nest question is is there still a hope to practice in Malaysia ? Let's take the Executive, Judiciary and Legislature into the discussion.

"is there still a hope to practice in Malaysia ?"

What do you mean by this?
