Hi,
I own an entry Pioneer avr Vsx517s and so far very satisfy with it performance but there are some features of the avr that i am still confused with like :

Sound Retriever: Turn on this feature when playing MP3/cd can notice vast improvement on Bass and Treble, I wonder do I really need this function on when listening to cd?

Phase Control: Can't really notice any improvement when turn on to this feature but according to the spec it will make the sound nicer..maybe i need to try listen to slower or sentimental songs to feel the different.

Loudness/Midnight mode: Do I really need this mode? Well i can definitely hear more bass when loudness is on.. smile.gif

Well my current setting for my AVR is only Phase Control on and other features off..

Any Pioneer's Avr owner here mind to share your opinions on these features are most welcome..thank you... smile.gif

I use Pioneer 917, good enough.

limitation is there is no conversion of inputs to HDMI, and need to connect component and HDMI to the TV.
(as input 1 and 2)

phase control is good for fixed position only, never used it, but this unit have a very good DAC.

running the CD player through this, with CD digital output only.

setup with four speakers up front, setting the side speaker to front as "bi-amping", but actually to two pairs.

very good sound, as good as ht e dedicated hifi setup.

phase control is for when your head is in one constant fixed position to listen to the music. this control the timing of arrival of the sound waves to your ear.

change the head position, the timing will change.

no need for this feature.

I have a vsx515. (also DVD recorder DVR-720HS). Quite satisfied with both of them. I can live without built-in HDMI. I can just connect direct to the TV HDMI port. One thing I like about Pioneer is I can find parts easily. Just get it from Menara UniAsia. Everything is there. No headache. Recently I got my setup mic (the MCACC thing) from there.

The midnight mode is for watching movies at night so that you don't have to turn up the volume to hear the centre speaker. Cos if you turn up the volume, the other speakers will be louder too. Therefore too noise it the bomb explodes. That's what I think anyway.

Hi,

I m running 911 as pre/pro wif RB985 as de power .

Midnite mode is for late nite listening n restricts certain spikes in de signals so it dont go too loud - its not wat de gurus would recommend to listen at reference levels..

I hv recently gone Blu so my tenure wif dis amp is close to an end .. m lookin at de Yamaha 663 or maybe de Marantz 7002.. Its not a bad amp but technology marches on..

Cheers

Well,

For one thing .. de price of 3k+ is expensive..

663 is ard 2k n my lobang for de 7002 (if it cums thru) is a little above tat ..

Besides japanese avrs are not tat accurate when quotin power when all channels driven n all tat nos mean squat to me - remember i still hv my trusty 985..

I just get my VSX-518 for RM700.

I don't like sound retriever (turn it on just like add Ajinamoto to the song) and also the phase control (the bass become tight).

Btw...pioneer seems not popular in LYN since there is no pioneer owner club here whistling.gif

I have a Pioneer cassette desk from the 80's; top of the range at that time.
Not used for the last 15 years; do you think it is still repairable?

I'm using Pioneer Elite (from US) Receiver with pioneer 969 Flagship DVD player. Use I-Link for audio esp. SACD, DVD_A & MP3, better sound compare with analoq cable (Van den hull).

I have 2 unit Pioneer 969 Universal Player. If anybody interested want let go one unit to upgrade with BR player maybe PS3 160GB.
