guys, any idea how to change the sms tone name? i search modmyifone and it is not applicable for 1.1.4 anymore.
any iphone sifus know how to do this?

i've got a copy of how to change sms tone names from one of the lyn forumers here....sry i couldn't remember who is that...

I've managed to change the name of SMS ringtones...

Here's how...

1. SSH into /private/var/Applications/Preferences.app/English.lproj and copy the Sounds.string file to your PC
2. convert the Sounds.string file using http://140.124.181.188/~khchung/cgi-bin/plutil.cgi
3. open the converted Sounds.string file using WordPad or any other editor
4. change the SMS ringtone names into your preference and save changes
5. copy back the amended Sounds.string file back to your phone (make a copy of your original Sounds.string file, e.g. rename it into Sounds.string.original)
6. done!

All 6 SMS ringtones are located at /System/Library/Audio/UISounds with names from sms-received1.caf to sms-received6.caf [with corresponding name Tri-Tone etc.], Google for ways to create SMS ringtones if you have no idea how to do it...

I tried that but i cant find private/var/application

Actually it's not that hard to change the name, especially the second time as you don't have to convert the string file again...

well, its ok la for ppl that very rajin to change the name. like me, i always change the tones, so next time i wanna replace some of the files, need to redo this same step.. zzZZzz

nope, but its been advised before to backup the string that will be used

on the instructions above, it never says to convert back to original file format is...
will that work if the file format is already converted thru this link:

which one? please be specific...

co'z i never see "SMS ringtone" as what above tutorial is...

the one with Alternate 1 till alternate 5

no need convert back, after finish the editing, just save & replace the old files..

as easy as that
