unfortunately you are wrong
the hdd upgrade instruction is clearly described in the ps3 manual, and easy hdd upgrading ps3 is marketed by sony officials as a bullet point against other consoles. if they really want to restrict ppl from going diy, they would have released 'official' ps3 hdd pack, with custom proprietary restriction to keep ppl from using any 3rd party unendorsed hdd. |

QUOTE(SWATwolf @ Aug 21 2009, 12:27 PM) but i need to go deactivate every account and reactivate it. that's no big deal really... but the real prob is once i reactivate it, all the save data and trophy all gone. p/s: yes i do back up all the possible transfered save file and sync my trophy before i change my hdd. any idea? in past firmware, playing a trophy-enabled game will re-populate the trophy list, and you can re-sync with trophy server after that. save files (restored from the backup) all work fine. |

i dont know, but deactivation step for all accounts arent necessary. if i were you, i'll just login to each of the sharing accounts and redownload a shared content from psn store for each account to reactivate them back.

QUOTE(Thalmes @ Nov 30 2009, 12:03 PM) Guys , I started reading not long ago , may I ask what is the maximum capacity of internal hdd that the ps3 can support ? I'm interested in upgrading my internal hdd to a 7200rpm but have no idea how big . Ps3 uses the same type of internal hdd as nowadays pc which is a 2.5" SATA am I right ? people have successfully used 1tb 3.5" sata (desktop) hdd connected to ps3 internal hdd port (like this) so there is no known limit of ps3 filesystem yet. ps3 uses 2.5" sata (notebook) hdd.500gb is a norm nowadays judging from posts in this very thread |

QUOTE(Thalmes @ Nov 30 2009, 01:43 PM) Hmm , Thanks for the heads up . I think I'll go for Internal . Not much of a hassle ! Do you guys do it yourself or have someone to do it for you ? the firmware file is needed during the hdd upgrading and at that time, PS3 is not fully-functioning yet so you cant go to the XMB to download the firmware. it must be pre-downloaded beforehands via a pc. any 256MB usb flashdrive will do or you can just use digicam/phones if they support usb mass storage and you dont have any usb flash drive around. As mentioned by Vorchiel in her PS3 thread that we need to have the Firmware installation in our external drive for installation into the new HDD , Is it possible to just upgrade the HDD and install the firmware via the internet ? |

QUOTE(moon* @ Mar 4 2010, 06:05 PM) yea by PC. backup data will be stored in PS3/BACKUP/ folder iirc. if you do not touch this folder, nothing will be losttats after i use the PS3 to backup into the hdd. if got extra space; i intend to use it on my pc to store some data inside. question. if i do that. will it anyhow damage the ps3 backup? |
