Alright... I have problems that I can't explain regarding my internet connection. At times I am cursed with ping ranging from 600-1000 while trying to play TF2.

Is there anyone else who uses Streamyx with two or more computers connected through a router? When only my computer is active and I have no downloads or torrents using bandwidth, I get a good ping in TF2, but as soon as I start a torrent or the other computer uses any significant amount of bandwidth my ping skyrockets.

Does anyone else have this sort of setup or experience these kinds of problems? Thanks in advance for any helpful replies!

You can solve/moderate this by turning on something called QoS (Quality of Service) in your modem/router. (AKA throttling, yes sort of the type ISP uses)
So basically the idea is to give TF2 traffic passing tru your router a higher priority and lower down priority for torrent traffic. Usually can be set with port no. and local LAN ip adddreses. You can lower pings as high as 600ms to 200-300ms if you have it on. Of course its best if you turn off torrents completely.

Also good torrent settings helps reduces pings also (guide for Azu: http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/Good_settings)
Opening to many active connection makes ur ping jump high

Also using wireless connects are also known to have lags, my advice use wired ethernet when ever possible =)
OR adjust ur card/router/AP antenna for max signal. or you could build your own antenna extander ( http://www.freeantennas.com/projects/template2/index.html )tongue.gif

my connections is very stable (under 100 usually 150 at most, SG or MY servers), (despite the fact i'm having TM Nut as my ISP and its service Screamyx).. mabey its because i have my router on 24/7, hanging onto the good IP/sections on the network.

Try leaving ur router on 24/7 biggrin.gif

Free weekend or not I can't play T-T

My power light on the modem goes on when I turn the modem on. It glows red for a few seconds before flickering green. Then the green power light stabilizes and then after a split second when DSL connects goes back to red for a few more seconds before flickering green. The green power light then stabilizes and after s split second when DSL connects goes back to red rinse lather repeat.

However, when the DSL and Internet lights are on, and I try to connect, it goes back to red again, and the whole cycle continues until the DSL/Internet lights are on and until I try to connect to it again. Then the same thing happens.

I actually tried plugging the modem into a different power outlet, and even reconnecting the phone line to a different phone jack, but the problem remains the same.

However, I have noticed that at about 4pm + the modem can and DOES connect to the Internet and sometimes stays on (while I'm connected) until late at night before having the same problem I mentioned above again. It's very, VERY annoying.

I can't even play Team Fortress 2 now T-T

Is it really the power problem if something like that happens? Or does it sound more like a phone line problem? I'm a total noob when it comes to troubleshooting and to be honest, none of us have the time to actually take it down to the centre to get it checked out.

Someone mentioned that I can use a PSP charger to power my modem though, so I probably will try that before purchasing a new modem.

I wanna play TF2!!

The blinking blinking what wont stop is the modem unable to sync up with the DSL server on the other end, manually setting the modulation type in the modem settings can help reduce the blinking time. (Usually its set at auto, so modem has to guess what type of modulation your line is on) Usualy the problem is not on your end it your current modem set up was working properly before (you have not change any of the configurations), the problem lies with the ISP. There was once time TMnut lines over at my place could not take PPPoE handshakes by routers at my end thus the blinking lights. i Had to by pass my router and do a manual dial using windows @ the modem

veri soli for the technical blob (with added bad grammar/spelling mistakes) of text there...

If its works before this (without you fiddling with any settings) it should work. otherwise the problem is not on yourside, so i suggest you wait a little while, something fishy is going on with your ISP (perhaps)

Port forward your servers port in ur router to your pc on ur local network. check ur server setting or which ports its running on

I'm with you on that plant, well come on getting to play on a public server is a privilege not a right which one can own. If you do get banned for what ever reason (bad attitude or admin having personal vendetta on you)
you can do some of the following
1. Apologize to admin (mabey?)
2. whine about it
3. get over it

Well mabey i duno much about it after all I've NEVER got banned from any server in my life laugh.gif
