Thanks for the vote of confidence Baronic but I don't think I can wait till Saturday. I actually tried to HardSPL few minutes before this post and sorry to say its unsuccessful. I'm eager to continue trying but I don't have much time left. But the good news is my phone is still usable.. rclxms.gif

I tried HardSPL with 1.30 Olinex (signed version) but during the last step I am prompted on my diamond to allow untrusted program. After I select OK the phone rebooted and ROM Update Utility 3.1.3.2 showing "ERROR [260] : CONNECTION", basically it has lost connection with my phone. And one more thing, the ROM Update Utility is actually showing a Trinity instead of a Diamond. Is this okay? I think I have no choice but to go with the riskier developer (unsigned) version.

Besides that is anyone out there who knows how to backup Garmin MXT? I'm just trying to backup the few "My Locations" point that I saved. Thanks in advance. I will try again tomorrow, so stay tuned.. biggrin.gif

Just make sure you're not connecting your Touch Diamond to your PC via a USB hub. It must be connected directly to the root USB of your PC. If you are using Windows XP confirm that it is connected to the ActiveSync and it is showing a green light and wait till it finishes syncing. If you are using Windows Vista, make sure you have installed the Windows Mobile Center v6.1. Ensure that it is properly recognized and you are able to sync with it.

Then run the Hard-SPL again. Try Olinex v1.40 (unsigned version). If you have no luck then there are other SPLs version on the xda-developers forum. There have been reports that certain individual unable to Hard-SPL the v1.40. Since then, they have released other versions to solve this problem. I think v1.34 should be able to solve it too.

thanks for your help baronic

the 2 files in the thread are
Unsigned-Hard-SPL-Diamond-OliNex.zip [1.92MB] AND
HardSPL_Olinex137_Unsigned.zip [137 KB]

i downloaded the unsigned first file , so i can use that to install the official HTC ROM from Tom Condon's site i mentioned before ?

and then i can install the .net 3.5 framework later on ?

sorry for the trouble just wanna clarify especially after arKCHane ran into trouble tongue.gif haha

download the first file, the bigger one.

yes u shud be able to install that official rom.

if u can find the installation file, yes u can, but u must also reg tweak to make your pda choose to run 3.5 rather than 2.0, since 2.0 isnt uninstalled

radio roms are up to u.

An update guys, my itchy fingers couldn't help but tried to do the HardSPL again before I sleep. It seems that the version I used was based on the MFG version, not the Olinex version. However, I did not continue because my TLR ROM file was corrupt.. cry.gif I'm downloading 2 different copies from xda now for backup. I will try again later after work today.

It seems nobody knows how to backup Garmin? Actually google searches on this topic does not give good results either.. wierd.. However, I have already downloaded the whole Garmin folder and see if I can find a way to backup "My Favourite" saved points. I will let u all know about this.

Seems like you want to do a custom flash. Thats ok. I think you can find a separate .NET Mobile Compact v3.5 cab. It should override the default v2.0. v3.5 supersedes the old version.

Depending on the official HTC ROM from Tom Condom's site, the ROM may actually contain a Radio ROM. You need to read through the ROM information which is usually declared before you download. Otherwise you'll know when you have completely flashed it. If the ROM does not contain a Radio ROM, it will leave the Radio part unchanged, so you'll still be having your stock Radio ROM in place.

If you want to upgrade only the Radio ROM, then you can do a custom SSPL. The steps are very straightforward. I suggest you read this
http://modmydiamond.info/index.php?option=...ntpage&Itemid=1

There are procedures on upgrading a single item.

No need to backup Garmin if you have installed it on your internal memory. The Garmin installation has everything it needs to re-establish itself. When you upgrade the ROM, it will not erase your internal memory. All you need is to select autorun file, and Garmin will re-install.

Since the introduction of Windows Mobile 5, PDA phones have been running on persistent memory storage. In other words, the implementation has changed to ROM for storage and RAM for execution. Prior to that, it is a RAM-only (XOR type) storage and execution. So this is a flash-only application. No data lost when power is out. More reliable than older implementation but a lot slower. But RAM has been increasing lately, so that offsets the performance penalty, much like a normal PC.

In layman speaking, no, it will not hard reset the device. All you suffer is a just a soft reset. All your information will be intact. However, that is only assuming that you switch off the unit first before removing the battery. If a program is writing from RAM to ROM and you intercept it... you may loose data and corrupt a file.

First of all sorry for the noob-ness. But i would like to know a few steps to the -hard-spl'ing my touch diamond.

1. Is there a difference between hard-spl'ing and flash-ing the Touch Diamond?
2. Which is the better hard-spl utility, Oli
3. Do i hard-spl then install the rom or will it automatically do it?
4. Must i hard-spl / flash the rom version by version or can i install it straight away?
5. Will anyone do it for me free ? tongue.gif

Sorry for all these noob questions. Just don't wanna screw up my 1 day old TD

Thanks guys.

1. Is there a difference between hard-spl'ing and flash-ing the Touch Diamond?
yes, Hard SPL will allow you to flash cooked ROMs without SuperCID’ing your device and also will protect your device from being bricked in a bad flash. flashing means formatting your device and install with another operating system.
2. Which is the better hard-spl utility, Oli
read this thread, it has been answered numerous times. read back 1-2 pages.
3. Do i hard-spl then install the rom or will it automatically do it?
non-auto. you will need to install hard spl then only flash the rom.
4. Must i hard-spl / flash the rom version by version or can i install it straight away?
dun understand. there's only one version of hard spl and one version of rom that you need to use.
5. Will anyone do it for me free ? tongue.gif
yes, if you are super sexy lenglui.

Sorry for all these noob questions. Just don't wanna screw up my 1 day old TD

Has anyone tried the TD headset to listen to the MP3? I found the sound is totally BAD. Anyway to improve it become at least, near-MP3-player standard? The Audio Boost seems like not helping at all.
